There have been a lot of new ones lately. They are all real nice.

Marcelo, I have that same scope mount. I have not used it yet, but they are pretty nice.

Unhappy I finally drank the cool-aide.

This is my second build, my first 5.56 build:

I started out to build a varmint/paper shooter with 300-500 yards in mind with a stripped Stag upper and lower. Used DPMS parts kits and bolt and carrier, Jewell 2-Stage trigger, Ace Skeleton stock, 20" DPMS SS Bull Barrel, 2 piece Aluminum free float tube, Prince 50 mag release and a Harris "knock-off" bipod. I added a Barska SWAT 6-24x60mm scope with a LaRue Tactical SPR/M4 Scope Mount (QD LT-104) to move the scope further forward to get a tighter feel when shooting.

Tonight I made a modification for comfort and ease of reloading, CERTAINLY not because I like the way it looks:

Added an A2 stock and MonsterMan grip. Now I can stop cracking open the receiver to load and can swap the lower with my 6.8mm upper and gain the same advantage. I may pull the Prince 50 and use the DPMS mag release parts.

All in all I could've bought this rifle outright for less that my cost to build, but I learned from the process, had fun doing it "and did it my way". Pretty basic compared to a lot I've seen, but it shoots pretty well.

Since performance is the end result we all look for:

This was 55gr. Black Hills FMJ @ 100 yards using the bipod and steadying the rear with my hand under the MM grip. Next time I WILL use something to get a little more stable.

I'm actually not to disappointed with how well I can hold on target with the MM. Now I just need to replace the DPMS standard trigger group with the Jewell 2 stage that's still sitting in the package and get rid of that annoying ring on the rear takedown pin.

Bipods and an Old Sock filled with old corn media works well for me also cheap. I need to find the handload that it will like since buying factory ammo's are just too expensive and does not display true rifle potential.

I like the way you think! I've got a whole bag of corn media infused with jewelers rouge that I can't stand the residue it leaves on brass. You've just given me a place to use it.

Thanks.

Sweet looking AR. Care to share the details of your build?? This is exactly how i want to build my next AR. So far i have the lower receiver and A2 buttstock, just buying a little at a time. Next purchase will probably be the MM grip and RRA 2 stage parts kit.

Thanks larryb!

I started with a stripped Stag A3 flattop upper and Stag stripped lower so I could do the OD bake-on finish from Brownells
I used a DPMS bolt and carrier group and upper and lower parts kit
The barrel is a DPMS 20" SS .223, 1-9 twist Bull barrel with a mid-length gas system
The gas block is a single rail (not sure of the manufacturer)
The Handguard is a 2-piece DPMS free-float aluminum tube
The Stock is a DPMS A2 and the grip is a MM (DUH! )
The bipod is a Harris "knock-off
The scope mount is a LaRue Tactical QD LT-104
The scope is a Barska SWAT 6-24x60 IR. Maybe WAY too much for 100 yards and maybe too much for this rifle, but I haven't moved out to 200+ yards yet and I've got a M25 build coming up it might work well on.

Just yesterday I replaced the DPMS trigger group with a Jewell 2-stage adjustable 3# trigger (SWEET!) and pulled the Prince 50 off and replaced it with the DPMS parts since it no longer has a pistol grip.

A lot more fun to shoot and more accurate than my Kel-Tec, and I can actually take this one apart without being concerned about shaving plastic on re-assembly.

Its an A.R.M.S. Aimpoint mount with and A.R.M.S. #22M68 cantilever spacer, its can be bought separately. (catilever brings it to the right height for the Magnifiers with FTS or QD mounts

I replaced the DPMS standard trigger parts with the Jewell 2 stage trigger. I bought one of those "bunny ear" butt-rests and can actually hold a lot steadier. I'm pleased with my 100 yard result.

I am almost done with my FDE build, then I wanna build a retro. It looks like it will be a while cause NDS seems to be backed up on orders for 601s. Cannot wait to post pics of both.
