Alright gents,

Thanks for all the valuable info. I actually read about every post. One time when filling out the online pdf, I checked the hunting license box, which appears to me that you cannot uncheck before I realized it did not apply to citizens of the USA. So, I started over. I titled myself Collector. It is great how the CLEO part auto fills. I was trying to click on boxes that I missed in the first section to ATF in the CLEO section, but just had to go back and fill it in in the ATF section. So, I am printing and sending it in right now. I will let all know when my cc is charged, and I am sportin my new license.

In the same vein, my application was sent to ATF via Certified/Return Receipt US Mail. They show it as received/signed for on December 5, 2010. However, no movement to this time. I sent an email to ATF inquiring as to status, and will follow up via phone tomorrow.

I mailed my app. to ATF and my CLEO on the same day (1/31/11) CLEO shows as delivered but FFL app to ATF just shows as 'accepted' (by USPS). The app hasn't been returned and it doesn't show as delivered. My CC also hasn't been charged either. Starting to think that my certified letter has been lost. So much for sending it certified. Has anybody had this problem of a certified letter not showing as delivered but it went through?

Thanks for any insight.

UPDATE:

Worst case confirmed today. I go to the post office and they tell me that they have no further information. That it was sent to a PO box and that it was likely delivered but they forgot to scan it in. I tell them that this is unlikely and explain the processing fee and how it hasn't been charged.

Clerk: 'we have no further information'
Me: 'This is a certified letter right? This went certified?'
Clerk: 'Yes'
Me: 'So in other words my certified letter is lost'
Clerk: -blank stare-
Me: Deep breath and repeat to self (it's not her fault) then reply: 'Thank you very much for your help ma'am'

Update 2:

Spoke with ATF today and they don't have my application. Rather then being upset i find it more amusing then anything that the USPS lost my certified letter. Back to square one........

Here's some info I found regarding sending certified mail to PO boxes:

"When the USPS letter carrier delivers the letter the process that documents when the letter was received at the delivery address is a little bit different.
A delivery notification card is placed inside the PO Box instructing the recipient they have a Certified Mail waiting for pick up from the Post Office window clerk. Because USPS requires someone to sign for each Certified Mail letter the delivery notification card must be presented to the window clerk at the USPS Post Office. Then the recipient is presented the delivery confirmation Signature card and the date and time of the delivery confirmation are electronically captured and recorded by USPS."

So, when you send certified mail to a PO box, the mail doesn't get put into the PO box, it gets held somewhere else. depending how often the ATF checks their mail, who knows what USPS does to the mail set aside. I had thought of this and decided to risk sending it regular first class mail.

i sent my form 7CR in the beginning of february using regular first class mail. My card was charged on 2/7. haven't received anything else yet. i'll keep you posted in here.

Well I finally got a hold of someone yesterday at the ATF and found out that in the middle of December, they reorginized the work schedule over in DC and they have been back logged.

Good news for me is that my 03 is still in pending status

The waiting is killing me. CC charged on 1/25. Tomorrow will be 7 weeks without my FFL03. I can't wait to start spending money. Come on ATF work faster.

I'm with you guys. Just checking in here to make sure I'm not alone on the wait. Gets exhausting checking the mail and feeling let down every time. I have a feeling I'll need another safe once this thing finally gets here!

you are DL'ing the pdf from ATF, not the copy linked in the first post, right? Only the copy from the ATF webiste is acceptable. http://www.atf.gov/press/releases/20...-of-forms.html . As for the fees, just follow the instructions on the form.

Just got my FFL03 in mail!

Didn't expect it this soon after what I've been reading.

ATF cashed check on 3/7.

Let the spending begin!

I'll be sending in my FFL07 application shortly. It's supposed to take about two months from them receiving the application to Agent visit.
lots of stuff to do in the interim. Gotta get busy.

damn, why is mine taking so long? You guys are getting super quick turn around times. I am past 60 days! As I posted above, I know they have some back logs, but why is mine taking longer then someone that filed after me?

how many addresses have you had in the last 5 years?

that's the only thing i can think of being the holdup with mine. i've had 3 addresses in the last 5 years, one for 3 months while i was waiting for some repairs on my current residence to be completed.

Infrequent transfers are legal, but the problem is with them logged into your bound book, it might raise an eyebrow if they see two guns logged in and one of them logged out within a month or so.

Personally, I wouldn't do it.

you are allowed to buy multiples of the same firearm, select the best of the group, and then sell off the extras. That falls under "enhancing your collection". Now, don't go around ordering 50 identical Mausers, keeping one, and selling off the other 49. That would probably be frowned up

CA doesn't have it own C&R defintion, it relies on the federal definition. in CA, a gun is C&R if the feds say so, so it needs to be 50-years-old, OR listed in the C&R list.

Just curios, but why would having more than one address filled in the last 5 cause a delay? More BGCing to do? What does more than 1 past address have to do with it?

FINALLY got mine today. Took them 60 days.

However, I did email one of their support staff Aron McCabe (Aron.D.McCabe@usdoj.gov) and he kept me informed of the process.

If your chit is in delay, shoot him an email and he may be able to help

The ATF is pretty much backlogged, they sent mine out literally right on the dot 60 days, and from there on, it was all good. I got my license (haven't got the big packet yet with all the info it states they'll send me) and i also sent it via just regular snail mail. It was about 1 week after i sent it out that the ATF charged their fees on my credit card.

Now it's time to go get my COE!

you might want to give them a call and check on it. you should be able to google up a number pretty easily.
