Got mine returned due to no NRA instructor number. Added my Riverside CCW permit and in the mail today. We'll see how long this takes.

It states AZDPS on it, actually says 'concealed weapons unit' in a windowed envelope

I sent my packet in on 3/20/17, and received it back 4/7/17 because of a name error on the check. I sent it back to them on that same day and my permit was issued on 4/15/17 and received it on 4/19/17. Pretty quick turn around with the error on my part.

I checked for my ccw status through their website. They replied on the same day saying working on the app on 4/4 currently. Wow I am impressed with their customer service!

sent 3/22
issued 4/8
arrived 4/17 (at least thats when my mail was checked, i was out of town)

AZ is much easier than NV, so I will likely retain it and not renew my NV, not sure yet, i'll have to check if NV is beneficial inside NV at all
NV vs AZ, NV adds Minnesota but loses Delaware and Georgia, AZ only adds Delaware/Georgia but loses Minnesota
so, if i drop NV i lose 1 state (MN)

Arizona has one permit type even though the will issue to non residents.

Regardless if you are an Arizona resident or not, the permit is the same as well as looks the same.

What confuses people is the reciprocity that other states acknowledge. Other states make the distinction of "resident" and "non resident". It makes no sense why but that's the way it is as if now.

Even though these states are "shall issue", it's a matter of maintaining some level of control.
Utah is shall-issue, but they do not recognize non-resident permits held by their own residents. A Utah resident may not carry in Utah using an AZ permit. While shall-issue, I've heard that Utah WILL deny for a history of alcohol convictions.

Rather than discriminating directly against their own residents, it may be viewed as cleaner/simpler legally to simply not recognize permits carried by non-residents.

Yes, the AZ, Florida, and likely other permits issued to non-residents are the same as those issued to residents.
The important thing is not to parse the words and read too much into it.
The term "Non resident permit" is simply a catch-all phrase used to reference a permit issued to the resident of another state.

A number of people have argued that since AZ doesn't issue a separate "non resident" permit, that they can carry in the 6 states that do not recognize non-resident permits.
Wrong answer. If you are a resident of California, then any permit you hold from any of the other 49 states is a non-resident permit by definition, and not valid in those states.

One of those states (South Carolina) is on the cusp of going Constitutional Carry anyway... the governor has stated that he will sign it if it reaches his desk.

Colorado is the main thorn in our side as Californians. Colorado follows true reciprosity, so they will not honor the California permit since California does not honor theirs, and they do not honor non-resident permits.

Here's the current differences as of today:

I just received my AZ packet in the mail and have a question:
On the fingerprint card under where the person taking fingerprints is supposed to sign, there is a place for employer and reason. Is that for MY employer or like the UPS store? For reason I intend to put "for AZ concealed carry application".

Comments please.

I believe that is for the employee taking the prints.
I did not provide any employer information to AZ or FL.

The Florida card arrives pre-stamped in that area stating:
"Name and address of LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCY where your prints are taken must be on the back of the card in the blank area in the upper right corner."
And under reason it is stamped "790.06"

How far back do they go?
I had a DUI in '91, curious if I should cross Utah off of the potential retirement locations list.

That's interesting, I didn't know that about Utah/alcohol. I guess it's not surprising if you think about it. I got my utah with no issue, had an alcohol arrest (drunk in public) about 13 years prior. But no alcohol convictions. I'm guessing the FBI background check only sees actual convictions

I fired off an email to confirm.

Florida has a problem with alcohol too.... 2 DUI convictions in the last 36 months

Look in the FAQ on their website, I seem to recall it's a 3 year deny period

I talked to a VERY nice young lady in the Utah office, certain drug/alcohol things will prohibit you from getting a permit issued for 3-5 years. A DUI from '91 means nothing. This was confirmed by the paperwork I received from Darren at 5-arrows class. I mailed my app in a couple weeks ago, we'll find out for sure because my last issue was around 1991 as well.

I don't know specifically, but his was in the last 5 years. They just dropped the DUI limit to .05 BAC from the national .08, so they may hold it against you longer than others.

Email confirmed, something from that far back ('91) would not be a problem.

I mailed in my AZ application today 4-24-17. I was surprised that nowhere in the application or instruction was a copy of a drivers license requested. I sent a copy anyway.
.
Lets see how long it takes. Any guesses? I'll guess 5 weeks.
