police duty belt went from Officer Friendly to Mad Max
Interesting Article:
After the Battle of North Hollywood, police across the nation vowed never to be overpowered again. And so they jettisoned the 9 mm pistols, .38 Special revolvers and 12-gauge shotguns that were standard issue at the time, and began replacing them with semiautomatic handguns and the trusty AR-15 http://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/how...cb6?li=BBnb4R7 |

Take a shot every time the author makes a factual error... by the 3rd paragraph, you'll die from alcohol poisoning!

The writer things Glocks are made in Australia!
News editor: it's a story that involves guns so let's put someone on it... Who can't read. (The comment section is always the best thing about these articles.) If that was true and Glocks were being made in Australia , they probably would have a few rifle versions by now. That might be cool if they made them in anything bigger than a .22 lr . |

Better yet. When did they move the factory to a country that doesn't allow the sale or ownership of pistols?
I don't recall when LAPD transitioned to the Beretta 92, but IIRC LASD made the change in the late 80s. |

I was issued a revolver in the academy, but issued a semiauto Beretta 92FS in late 80s. My agency had deployed AR-15 rifles even way before the North Hollywood shooting. I carried AR-15 during the LA riot. LAPD guys were jealous of us.

Wow. Interesting read? Hardly.
I hate OC and really never carry it. I may get a tiny can or something to fulfill my Ops Orders. I generally have at least two flashlights, at least two cuffs, a couple of knives, a TASER, and I prefer my dymondwood. That's really not a lot on the belt. Definitely feels like a lot though. |

What non-semiauto 9mm pistol was "jettisoned" for a semiauto pistol???
I stopped reading immediately after that. . . I'm surprised the author didn't consider those Pelican 7060s stun guns or laser beam cannons. Last edited by code_blue; 12-14-2015 at 12:55 PM.. |

LASD transitioned to the 92f in 1989, altho my station, the largest, received it in Jan. of 1990. I bought it when I retired in March of 2003 and it complements my S&W Model 15 .38 revolver that I bought when we went to the 92f. Both excellent guns and still used at the range.

I saw A LOT of really nice "authorized" long guns deployed during the riots.
