Ephesians 5:22-24
New International Version (NIV)

22 Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord.
23 For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior.
24 Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything.

You left out the most important verse of this section,

25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her.

Yep, those passages have strong connotations.

Why does it say wives 'submit', and men 'love'?

Most men want to be honored and to be authority, while it is women that crave love, kindness, gentleness, sincerity. Those passages show the human psyche in a way only the Creator can comprehend

Yeah....he kinda forgot this part.........

Eph 5:

25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself up for her, 26 so that He might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, 27 that He might present to Himself the church [q]in all her glory, having no spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that she would be holy and blameless. 28 So husbands ought also to love their own wives as their own bodies. He who loves his own wife loves himself; 29 for no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ also does the church,

Default (John 20:31) God's Word!

"But these are written that you may believe
that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God,
and that by believing you may have life in His name."
(John 20:31)

Dear Heavenly Father, "Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God." I cannot begin to express my gratitude for Your words, so faithfully recorded in Your Holy Bible, that, today, I might experience all the hope, joy, peace, comfort and love that comes from You. We praise You for the examples that You have written down for our warning and also for our encouragement. Thank You for every word, no matter how difficult some of it may be to digest -all of it is for our nourishment. I have grown to love You more deeply because of Your Word - for it is in Your Word that You have revealed Yourself to me and shown me how faithful and trustworthy You are. Those words in black and white have been imprinted on my heart through the opportunities (and difficulties) You have provided to apply what I have learned. You know exactly what I need each day and You put that portion on my plate. Lord, 'whom have I in heaven but You? And earth has nothing I desire besides You. My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.' Thank You that Your word does not return void, but will accomplish what You desire and achieve the purpose for which You sent it. Help us to be faithful about sharing this message and not waste a single moment that we could spend in Your Word. May our lives be a constant testimony of Your grace and mercy to a world in desperate need of saving. Lord, we are grateful in moments like these, which are incomprehensible, where we can find comfort and hope in Your Word. We trust Your ways are higher than ours. We believe that those who sow in tears will reap with songs of joy. We know that You will surround us with songs of deliverance. May Your Words, spoken through Your people, bring comfort and peace to those whose hearts are broken. May Your presence fill the void they are feeling today. In Jesus Name. Amen.

There is one verse that I would close each of my letters to my sons when they were deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Psalm 144:1

Blessed be the Lord, my rock,
who trains my hands for war,
and my fingers for battle;

Joshua 1:9

"Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”

My dad gave me a necklace with that verse engraved on it. Used to wear it every day but now it rests above my reloading bench.

The basic foundation verses that will get you started -

Assurance of Salvation - 1 John 5:11-12

'And this is the testimony. That God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his son. Whoever has the Son has life. Whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life'.

Assurance of Answered Prayer - John 16:24

'Until now you have asked nothing in my name. Ask, and you shall receive, that your joy may be full'

Assurance of Forgiveness - 1 John 1:9

'If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleans us from all unrighteousness'.

Assurance of Guidance - Proverbs 3:5-6

Trust in the Lord with all your heart. Do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways, acknowledge Him and He will make your paths straight'.

Assurance of Victory - 1 Corinthians 10:13

'No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability. But with the temptation, he will also provide a way of escape, that you may be able to endure it'.

And, of course, John 3:16 (minus the rainbow wig) -

"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."

MY second favorite. Proverbs 1: 7 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge. Wisdom and discipline are what mere fools have despised.

1 Peter 5:10-11

10 And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you. 11 To him be the dominion forever and ever. Amen.

The story of Ehud is pretty cool.

http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/...dges%203:12-30

Quote:
12 Again the Israelites did evil in the eyes of the Lord, and because they did this evil the Lord gave Eglon king of Moab power over Israel. 13 Getting the Ammonites and Amalekites to join him, Eglon came and attacked Israel, and they took possession of the City of Palms.[a] 14 The Israelites were subject to Eglon king of Moab for eighteen years.

15 Again the Israelites cried out to the Lord, and he gave them a deliverer—Ehud, a left-handed man, the son of Gera the Benjamite. The Israelites sent him with tribute to Eglon king of Moab. 16 Now Ehud had made a double-edged sword about a cubit[b] long, which he strapped to his right thigh under his clothing. 17 He presented the tribute to Eglon king of Moab, who was a very fat man. 18 After Ehud had presented the tribute, he sent on their way those who had carried it. 19 But on reaching the stone images near Gilgal he himself went back to Eglon and said, “Your Majesty, I have a secret message for you.”

The king said to his attendants, “Leave us!” And they all left.

20 Ehud then approached him while he was sitting alone in the upper room of his palace[c] and said, “I have a message from God for you.” As the king rose from his seat, 21 Ehud reached with his left hand, drew the sword from his right thigh and plunged it into the king’s belly. 22 Even the handle sank in after the blade, and his bowels discharged. Ehud did not pull the sword out, and the fat closed in over it. 23 Then Ehud went out to the porch[d]; he shut the doors of the upper room behind him and locked them.

24 After he had gone, the servants came and found the doors of the upper room locked. They said, “He must be relieving himself in the inner room of the palace.” 25 They waited to the point of embarrassment, but when he did not open the doors of the room, they took a key and unlocked them. There they saw their lord fallen to the floor, dead.

26 While they waited, Ehud got away. He passed by the stone images and escaped to Seirah. 27 When he arrived there, he blew a trumpet in the hill country of Ephraim, and the Israelites went down with him from the hills, with him leading them.

28 “Follow me,” he ordered, “for the Lord has given Moab, your enemy, into your hands.” So they followed him down and took possession of the fords of the Jordan that led to Moab; they allowed no one to cross over. 29 At that time they struck down about ten thousand Moabites, all vigorous and strong; not one escaped. 30 That day Moab was made subject to Israel, and the land had peace for eighty years.

The one in my sig line has always been my favorite. Ultimately the outcome is not in our hands and that can be comforting to remember when facing a daunting task. But at the same time we still must do our best to do our part.

When I get angry, I remember this one to calm myself down. I should probably write it on my steering wheel.

Romans 12:19
Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.

Not my favorite verse but how about this one from David, the man after God's own heart.

Psalm 58.6 Oh God, break the teeth in their mouths; tear out the fangs of the young lions, O LORD!

The reason I like it is that it shows David's zeal against those that would come against the church. David occupied a special place in God's heart in spite of his many mistakes.

The story of David and of his son Absalom and also Solomon is the most compelling of the purely mortal tales in all of the Bible.

"Oh my son Absolom, my son, my son Absalom! Would God I had died for thee! Oh, Absolom, my son, my son!"

2 Samuel is the best reading in the whole darn book. When we are kids, all we really are taught was David slew Goliath and became king of Israel. His mistakes, which were nearly as great as his accomplishments are just as fascinating.

Personally, I like John 3:17 better... thought the whole section around it is AMAZING.

"For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him."

Psalm 121:1-2

1 I lift up my eyes to the mountains—
where does my help come from?
2 My help comes from the Lord,
the Maker of heaven and earth.

I have a lot of favorites. Mostly from The Psalms.

Ephesians 6:12.
For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

John 8:58
58 Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.

The power of Christ's answer to the pharisees is so immense. It's amazing how much can come from something so short. It shows that Jesus is, was and will always be. That He is God and the Messiah that the old testament spoke about. He is our Savior and Lord forever, Amen!

Continued thought(sorry)
And it's meant to parallel what God told Moses in Exodus.
Exodus 3:13-14
13 And Moses said unto God, Behold, when I come unto the children of Israel, and shall say unto them, The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall say to me, What is his name? what shall I say unto them?

14 And God said unto Moses, I Am That I Am: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I Am hath sent me unto you.

Matthew 7:7-8

7 "Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.

When I was 18 I was in painful turmoil regarding Religion and Sin and the True Nature of God. At the suggestion of one who I respected, I focused on this verse and prayed as I had never prayed before. I soon felt great peace, felt that my questions were clearly answered and that I had found what I sought and that the door was opened to me.

It was the first great turning point of my life and has always been a gift and a blessing to my benefit.
