Detective Logan called me a few minutes ago to let me know that I passed my background check and to set up a date for the range.

Choices were Saturday August 8th 0800-1700 at the Devore range or Sunday August 9th 0800-1700 at the AVGC range.

As I Stated above my interview was April 24th, I believe I applied at the end of February and got the call today, July 28th (94 days from interview).

Anyone have the flier they gave you with all the paperwork during your interview? I might have shredded mine when I cleaned out paperwork out of my safe. I'll probably just swing by the office to ask for another today.

I chose Devore since it's not a far drive for me.

Well now I'm going to AVGC on the 9th. Boss called and needs me to work the 8th lol

Detective just knocked on my door and asked where my apartment manager was. Said he would call me tomorrow, if he couldn't find anyone to talk to.

I had a good experience . I was in and out in about an hour. My interview was last week. A couple days later my HR department received the employment verification and mailed it back . Just waiting on the results of my background check and residence check. They said 90 days but hopefully it doesn't take that long. In the meantime I'm just waiting for the results of everything patiently. It's killing me but I can't wait for that phone call to set up a range date !

It was supposed to be Aug 8th but due to an injury I have to wait. Will probably be 8+ weeks until I can shoot again.

I am sorry to hear that. The range date is extremely easy. The first part is all lecture. Then after that the range qualification which was extreme easy a total of 10 shots 5 in each mag from 7 yds at a b27 target. you have to have to be able to make 8/10 shots in a designated area which is from the center x to the 7 ring.

My wife told me last night that the residence check was done on Tuesday. It seems to be moving along well, faster than expected.

May 16-call for interview
July 14th-interview and lifescan
July 21st-employment verification received and sent
August 4th-residence check check

Got a call today to reschedule my interview next week. Only a day sooner now, but a day is a day! For the folks that have already interviewed, it is the 655 E 3rd addy, correct? I keep forgetting to ask when I'm on the horn with Sarah.

Where the best place to park? Just that small lot right on 3rd?

I guess with my interview being at 8 I should be able to get a spot there.

Right in front if you can get a spot, otherwise there is a larger lot just off to the left of the building.

On the side street to the left of the building. Get to know it well. Renew classes, gun additions, anything... you will probably need to park there

I was looking to the left on Streetview and it was gated, looked like maybe employee parking.

Yea, chances are that there will be plenty of parking right out front at 8am. Then just walk in the front entrance (glass doors) look to your left and you should see an office/receptionist through a 2nd set of glass doors and that's where you'll need to check in. It has a sign saying something like "must show ID to enter".

Then just wait to be called and get ready to fill out more paperwork/questionnaires and give detailed information about your history and behavior. For example, do you drink alcohol/do drugs/have been in a fight or something along those lines. Then you have to explain your answers (in writing) that you answered "yes" to. For example, if you answered yes to drinking you might say something like "I drink from time to time during social occasions but always in a responsible manner and in moderation." Your answer may be different of course according to your lifestyle.

Also, get ready to relist ALL of the places you've lived in the past 10 years and approximately when did you stay there and when did you leave. Same goes with your work history in chronological order from most recent to least recent I believe. At least that's what I was required to do...

Sounds pretty painless.
One residence in the last 20 years and only 3 jobs in the last 10.
Alcohol? A beer with dinner out maybe once every couple of months.
Other than that, a nip in the evening before bed.

I am curious on employer contact information.
One business is no longer around "as it was"... the CEO ended up buying back into it during it's death throes and apparently still uses the name, but it's not the same business, and none of the SoCal staff remains.
My direct supervisor would be the best person to speak to... and he's at a different company.

Likewise for my current job... I listed my actual work address, but HR is at a different address. May not matter since I believe the post office delivers everything to the mail room at city hall.

I believe they'll only contact your current employer; I may be wrong. I had difference circumstances because as a person who owns and operates my own business, I was never sent an employee verification form to fill out...probably because they know that I could just give myself a positive review and send it back to them myself.

Last question, folks. What did you put down for the "position of" part on the notarized form. I'm assuming it's just "Concealed Carry Permit Holder", but I also hate assuming and am unable to find any direction otherwise.

Just a heads up: The department updated the price for the admin/background fees. The 20% due at the interview is now $30.60, and the final amount due at time of pickup is $122.40. I realize it's only a slight increase in price, but had I not checked prior to getting my money orders this morning, I would have come up short tomorrow.

What the f.... dammit. Thanks for the heads up. Good thing I didn't go get my last money order yet. I wonder if the new pricing applies to the people who already paid the 20% ($29.20) before the price increase.

For DV, criminal activity, etc., there's a justice system. Sheriffs are part of it, are they not? They receive the calls generated by your neighbors if there is any suspicious activity, do they not? California is an at-will employment state where your employer can fire you if "red flags" become a problem, is it not?

Funny, you can't even take away children from a divorce parent on drugs unless there is concrete evidence, proven in court, and even then it's an uphill battle, but you can remove a fundamental right based on what the neighbor said event though there is no court trail or arrest record to justify it?
Not just neighbors, but what about Red Flags against a hostile HR? I've taken legal action against our HR Director and she was publicly humiliated. She's not a member of my fan club.

l'm not exactly sure but you should be ready and willing to explain your situation because on the application (section 2, question 5) it asks, "Are you now, or have you been, a party to a lawsuit in the last five years? If yes, please explain."

Especially when asking your neighbors. I was home when the officer came by and I heard everything (my walls are thin). My neighbor across the street also approached me and asked about my ccw permit.

Again, I understand why they ask, but there's gotta be another way to keep it a bit more discreet. Or maybe I'm in the wrong.
Do you consider yourself to be your employer's property? If not, why do you need a permission slip from your employer to exercise your rights? It's not their decision to make. It's none of their business.

ETA: not criticizing you, we're stuck with these rules for now, I just don't think anybody should think they're acceptable or reasonable.

Never made it that far. Two separate events. She got slapped down hard both times and it was made worth my while not to pursue things further. Among other things she's barred from having any interactions with me. I had a good lawyer.

I still intend to discuss it with SBSD when the time comes just in case. I don't know if she'll get the form or if one of her underlings will get it. I don't trust her. To be honest I don't know how she still has a job.

If the standard state application asks for an explanation of a court action then fine (for now). It is what it is. The application certainly does not require the Sheriff to contact your employer, much less ask for their opinion and inform them about your intent to obtain a permit and all the other things the Sheriff does that aren't outlined in the law.

I understand that we have a process that has problems but the sheriff does hand out permits. I understand and expect that people use it. In fact, as many people as possible should apply and get their permits. However, what is disconcerting is that people are actually OK with the problems and OK with a sheriff that refuses to get rid of those problems.

So, as far as I understand, the new rate applies to folks who will be interviewing starting in November. You'll be good at the original fee.

Other than that, the interview went well, I think. The detective didn't seem too thrilled that I carried my old CCP from North Carolina in my wallet, but otherwise I think everything was kosher. Fingers crossed!

If what Scotty said is true, you should still be good to go since you are interviewing way earlier than november.
