Illegal. There are oversized hammer pins available.

Peen the hole to close it up.
Ream the hole back to the correct size.
Spot heat treat properly so it won't do that again.

It's not being examined. That email is tacit approval and your paper letter will be arriving in 2-8 weeks. Congrats.

Why pray tell the tale?

There could be some CA PC or DOJ regulation but I have not found such.

The BATFE allows the original manufacturer to replace damaged beyond repair receivers with another exact one with the same serial number and it is not considered a new firearm.

Back in the day when the only commercial stripped lowers readily available at an affordable price were from one foundry that cast them who then sent them for finishing...... TWO such manufactures, DPMS and Oly, both advertised replacement of your old weak defective and easily broken cast lower receivers with the now available forged ones at the low low price of ~$150 as a direct one to one replacement with the same serial number and all that-they even advertised this on the Shotgun News Mailer. Ship them your cast receiver, get a forged one back with the same serial number. No FFL or transfer or fees and all that. The cast were well known to have the front detent ears breaking off.... but since then I have seen the forged do the same. It usually happened when the receiver got depressed so when given the chance if you opened it up by removing the rear detent pin the receiver would jump out of your hands and bash itself to death on the concrete breaking off the detent tabs. I have seen such a broken receiver at the range that had a Ferret 50 upper on it and also heard from a friend who was cleaning his AR out on his patio who swears that the receiver jumped off of the table to its death. I have heard and read of other such stories....well I digress

.....now why is it illegal for the original manufacture to replace a damaged beyond repair receiver with another that has the same serial numbers? Can you reference the CA PC or regulation or even opinion letter?

Congratulations; I got my letter today stating that the three 80% rifles and a pistol that I submitted were successfully volreg with CA DOJ.

For a timeline, I submitted the application through CFARS on May 26, 2018. Received emails on August 9, 2018 that my applications were processed and confirmation letter would be sent via US Mail. Received letter today with time stamp of August 10, 2018. Little less than 90 days turnaround.

Yes, everyone's guns say "8888" when registered as a "firearm with interchangeable barrels" (multi).

No, you should not engrave "8888" onto your firearm.

Don't worry.
They are not going to let you update your application anyways since we are past 6/30/2018 and the volreg form can no longer can be used...

It seems they're requesting pics for some, and not for others. What are the details of what you were registering? Frames or fully built with interchangeable barrels? I'm still waiting on mine I submitted in May & June...

I have not seen anyone post that they were successful at updating their volreg with pictures after June 30th.
We have lots of postings where people are not able to add the pictures because the volreg form is no longer accepted after June 30th 2018 though.

Yeah, vol reg is done. Just buy a complete lower and swap it out. Costs about the same unless you have some gold-plated BS. LOL

Volreg home builds:

2x 1911 went through for processing, notification in mail.

1x AR kicked back.

"Please identify which caliber you would like, recorded under your name. The Automated Firearms System is only able to capture one caliber."

Lower marked multi, form was filled with interchangeable barrels, but they want a specific caliber in the kickback.
______
1x AK kicked back.

"Please provide clear full-length pictures of both sides of the firearm, one close up of the serial number, magazine release, make and model. Upload these pictures to this transaction and resubmit for processing."

I'll probably include pictures for the AR as well. I have a feeling they're going to throw a fit on the featureless grip on the AK.

Did everyone go featureless for the AR? I'm still undecided on the new mag method or featureless.

They better let us resubmit. I don't want a USNA on my 2 homebuilds.

You won't be able to resubmit. All you can do is report an issue and wait for someone to reply.

Today I received "will begin processing your submission" emails for 5 of them, but one of the rifle receivers was rejected due to "Please identify which caliber you would like, recorded under your name. I submitted an issue report and will update when I hear back.
Any updates on that situation ?

Has anybody done the USNA process? Frankly, I'm tired of waiting and I'm willing to pay them the $45 just to get the lower registered in the AFS.

Do you expect the USNA process to be completed faster?

Pawn-and-return is going to be the fastest way to get it into AFS... but if there is no existing entry, there is the risk of the DROS being rejected.

It would cover the engravings, but of course would be removable after a couple minutes with an allen wrench if an LEO wanted to inspect the markings at the range or something. CFARS pictures would not have the redi-mag/mod installed to properly show the engravings.
Shouldn't be an issue. These things:

Cover up the SN on shotguns and have to be removed to validate SNs. The thing you're looking at isn't much different (serves same purpose).

Well I just got the dreaded email with incomplete status and the following message

"•Please identify which caliber you would like, recorded under your name. The Automated Firearms System is only able to capture one caliber."

I thought including pictures of my lower receiver showing that it says MULTI for caliber would make a difference, but apparently it makes no difference. These people are complete idiots.

For those of you who got the same BS email, what issue type did you choose in the menu when Reporting an Issue? What # can I call to get in contact with the numb nuts at DoJ?

It was my understanding that you were not allowed to use MULTI as a caliber and that you actually had to pick a caliber.
Eg: ‘.223’ or ‘.300’

Looks like DOJ finally fixed their website and now allow to make changes and re-submit the form. Do it while you can.

Just updated my reports with the requested information that they asked for. 2 were featureless rifles that they wanted pictures (same request as RAWs). Hopefully the standard magazine releases do not scare them to much. The other 3 were asking for which calibers I wanted listed because their system couldn't only list 1 caliber.

Oddly enough, the rifles they requested pictures for were for the AR patterned 7.62x39 rifle and my AK...

Edit: Thanks for updating that we could finally submit the changes that they requested MrBlazito. Here's to hoping they don't show up at my front door.

There is no verbiage in the regulations which requires pictures for Vol Reg or Self built firearms. The only picture verbiage is under AW Registrations (if I'm wrong let me know). I will not provide pictures so they can make "assumptions" and visit my home unjustly. Picts should not be provided until they change their regulations, as their request for picts is unsupported by the current regs.
