Default Compliments at the local shooting range

As a newbie firearms enthusiast, I find I enjoy my few hours at the local range shooting my pistols. Don't go as often as I should, as in once a week. Instead I probably go about every two or three weeks. So far, I'm a decent shot.

I tend to go by myself in the afternoon. As a female, some guys are willing to talk to me. Some are even willing to let me shoot their pistols and naturally I reciprocate. So far, I've received two compliments. The first put a huge smile on my face that afternoon. I'd just bought my first handgun, and the red-headed range monitor at Chabot said: "You're really handy with that Buck Mark!"

This evening I got something totally unexpected. The guy who'd let me shoot some of his very nice pistols said: "You're a great-looking woman with some great-looking tits!"

LOL!

Gotta start wearing my thick sports bras again and hide those little girls under my t-shirt!

And some wonder why women(well some women) feel uncomfortable at gunshops and shooting ranges as much as I do in a sewing supplies store, lol.

Also I find people to like my Buckmark as well.

Class....It is what this guy is missing. But, on the other hand, he was being honest.

Yes, but the people at Joann's or Michael's aren't going to follow up a statement with something equally as classless as that to you. Oh and the sewing shop I go to when my sewing machine needs work is run by a very polite man.

That person is just a total jerk.

And your answer should have been the same as Teri Hatcher in Soapdish:

go to the beach, not the range.

i don't know about any of the other women on this forum but when i'm at the range, i'm not looking to be hit on or to connect up with some guy. i'm there to shoot.

the best compliment i've had at the range was a young woman there shooting pistols with her dad and brother who came over and was admiring my revolvers.

200 yards is easy. Try 300 meters.

No, I wouldn't find the comment flattering. When I go to the range, I go to shoot. The only compliments I would appreciate are ones about my skills or my guns. I love fashion (shopping is one of my other passions) but when I'm at the range I tend to cover up - burns aren't fun. Plus, my fave range is in the mountains, so its always a bit colder.

Best time I ever had at the range meeting a gal was when I took some coworkers out for a shoot at Targetmasters. I brought a Ruger Blackhawk in .44 mag, and we managed to capture the attention of everyone in the store with it.

The gal two lanes to our right was there with her dude, plinking away with a rental 22. She asked me if many women like to shoot the 44, and I told her in my experience that they didn't want to. She told me that know she wanted to shoot it even more. She ran a full cylinder, and ended up with a big *** grin on her face. The shooting was pretty good, too.

ps message for any and all future female calgunners recruited to the 2nd amendment cause and the pleasures of shooting as a result of our booths at gunshows: i hope this isn't the first thread you opened in the LADIES FORUM and, if it is, i hope you didn't read this far and so missed this picture. however, if you did get this far "welcome to calguns". its an eclectic crowd. there is actually some good info that can be obtained here and support as well.

don't know if you did so or not, Boatz, but i notified the mods by hitting the " i " in the triangle in the upper right near the numeral #30 of your message. the mods don't read every thread and/or post.....now they'll see your reference to removing the above picture and will read the thread as well as view the above pic.

DPV's Partial List of Rules Regarding Women:

1) They don't open doors if they don't want to
2) They are in the front seat of my car if they want to
3) They get to shoot my guns if they want to
4) And I won't give them "advice" at the range just because they have the Double-X chromosome unless they want the help!

Sometimes I think there are certain guys who take the range as a place for guys only, and any woman there is fair game for all the things they'd never say anywhere else. For the most part, the men I've run into treat me like any other guy at the rane... at least I think so! lol Sometimes I go alone, and if I'm going to get "comments" from men, this is the time. When I go with my husband no one says a thing.

Here's a re-post from another site of one of my personal range stories...

I had just bought a new gun and was having some fun at the range. I was reloading my mag when two guys came in and immediately began giving me pointers that any gun owner should know. Then they wanted to know what I was shooting and offered to let me shoot "their" guns. They acted quite know it all... and eventually through prying I found out that neither of them owned a single gun, and "their" guns were rented. I informed them that both of the guns I was shooting were my own.

guys: you've got plenty of other forums here at Calguns to utilize for male humor........take a hint and your socks back to one of those, please.

ok, i'm in a bad mood: i just read over in the off topic forum what one poster thought was "funny" which included a picture of a young woman who was set up for a "prank" and who could have really been hurt. there are times when i don't have to wonder why more women don't participate here at Calguns when i see stuff like that....and then i wonder why i continue to participate myself.....

I work at a store/range and I keep my comments/advice/pointers to myself unless asked for them.

Usually when ladies come in to shoot the ony compliments I make are about their firearms or their accuracy.

It doesn't surprise me either. My niece picked up a Buck Mark at Markley's in Watsonville. She put most of that 10 round magazine into the body of a police target. Only one round missed that black shadow. The bullet riddled target hangs on her wall as a warning to anybody who gets the wrong ideas.

A grown man might have asked how often that you went to the range and then made a date to bring some more of his guns the next time. He might get lucky too. It it isn't likely to happen with comments about your body parts right out of the blue...

Eek!

This thread has had some legs.

Well, let me clarify.

Since no offense was meant in the men's words, I took none. Though the choice of words in the second compliment was inelegant (obviously I had no hesitation in poking fun at their gaucheness), I still find sincere appreciation from men welcoming. If I were to meet either man again at the local range, I would treat him as a friend. I like being friendly, as that is my natural frame of mind. So I liked their friendliness as well. And I liked their compliments. I especially liked how the second man brought over his loaded handguns to let me fire them without any expectation of reciprocity. When I asked him questions, he answered them. To me, he seemed both genuinely knowledgeable and experienced regarding handguns. If people were as generous and kind as he, perhaps this world would be a better place.

I've gone through and deleted some stuff. The entire point of this forum is that it is supposed to be free of the pervasive male dominated "humor" and snide remarks. Those who don't understand that subtlety will not ba allowed to post in this forum.

ah, another Markley's shooter! as a female shooter, i was pleased one day at Markley's when an older teenage young woman came up and was asking me about my revolvers.....she was there with her dad and brother but they only had pistols.

and you are so right as to how a grown man should proceed.........
