Default Glass Factory "If you shoot it, it's yours" rule

I'm not sure if this was a rule already in place or something new the US Forest guys are enforcing but I was out there Sunday morning around 9AM and the Ranger was on the road overlooking the range and watching with binoculars. I'd never seen that before but I wasn't worried. A group of guys left a few minutes after I set up and returned with the Ranger a literal minute later. The Ranger asked everyone with his vehicle loudspeaker to cease fire and open all bolts and return to the front of our vehicles. He sent the guys over to pick up a big, shot up oxygen tank. I asked if they had brought it out there and thats why he was making them get it. He said "Nope. But if you shoot it, it's yours, and you'd better pack it out." Then we started talking Mausers. He's a K98 fan and a true shooter.

I was worried because I'd been shooting all kinds of stuff and had never heard of that rule. After the guys brought it back and loaded it on their truck he gave them citations. I'm not sure what the citations were for exactly but I know it ruined their day.
When my buddy and I left we were sure to pick up our brass and shotgun hulls and packed out everything we brought. We do this anyway but made a special effort to pack out stuff we shot that we didn't bring out. I had a trunk full of garbage. The Ranger waved at us as we left.
I just wanted to give everyone a heads up that this is being enforced because I wasn't aware of it and maybe you weren't either.

This is the new reality. If the community doesn't keep the GF much cleaner than it has been, the Forest Service is closing it.

Kind of ridiculous that the Forest Service has to do this but the overall population of shooters have proven that they aren't mature enough to pick up their trash and pack it out. After a few people pay a few thousand dollars in fines, they will get the message. Our hope is to try to install some steel targets up there sometime this year so that at least for basic plinking, shooters won't need to bring out televisions, beer bottles, traffic signs, furniture, etc. Of course, if you are shooting for accuracy, nice steel target stands can be bought for under $30.00, I just bought two.

Our CGSSA Community Cleanup team is very happy about this, we need to train shooters to NOT pollute, that it is socially unacceptable.

If you are not at minimum taking out every target you brought to shoot (empty paint cans in my case) you are doing it wrong.

I usually get what ever I brought, obviously, and whatever else I can fit.

Its nothing fancy. More like a dump than a range.

Yeah, I was there, saw that too. I thanked them on the way out. It really is too bad people treat it like a dump.

That was the purpose of the clean-up and the whole campaign we are developing to keep the place clean and safe. I went up the week after Thanksgiving and just couldn't believe my eyes how bad the place had become. My first thought was Facebook to get people roused up about "the dump" and it really worked!

If we all do our jobs this year, the GF will end looking much more like a beautiful shooting park than a dump. The Forest Service handing out hopefully lots of citations is the first part of our plan.

Back when I was in High School, I went camping with a bunch of buddies to a campground in Mt Pinos. I remember the campground was by a tiny stream, and we were way up in the mountains, the first night got so cold, one of my buddies wanted to literally drive back home in the middle of the night.

Anyways this was many years ago but i've always remembered a place we drove by on the way to the campgrounds. It was filled with literally thousands of broken bottles, it was truly a sight to see, almost beautiful the way the thousands of shards of broken glass glinted off the rocks. Through the years i've almost thought that place was not real, as if I made it up it's been so long ago. Great to see you guys confirming that this place is real and still exists! Thank You so much for your efforts to keep this place clean.

Agree, I hadnt thought it through, I got lucky that day that the ranger didnt pick on me, but I did pack out my stuff so he probably liked that. The guys that got the tickets packed out nothing. I just dont like to see the GF full of a bunch of morons with poor gun safety.

Nice racks are much better. You can grab both sides of the rack to help stabilize while mounting.

More red tape than yo momma wrapping xmas presents. Please contact "Capybara" and ask that you are either requesting contributor or info related emails. We have a facebook page - if you are unable to give a service commitment (no harm - no foul - life's short no need to explain sir) then I would really have to recommend you follow the effort on facebook

Its the most current outreach we have presently

I have no idea. "Freedom" in this case has been destroyed by irresponsible individuals that do not respect the responsibility that comes with any given freedom.
