So then is it confirmed that if somebody had large capacity magazine for the Marlin 70 it would work in a 795?

The one 10 round capacity clip-magazine I got from cdtx2001 works perfectly in my 70. That's what Marlin calls them, god knows why.

The 795 seems to be an upgraded model 70. The model 70 didn't have a synthetic stock or the feature that holds the bolt open on the last round. The 70 and 795 use the same mags.

I bought my 70 years ago from B5 and payed about $120 for it. It's been a great shooter, and still is. Back then, there were hi-cap 25rnd mags available for it. I bought all that I could and am glad I did. I've added a scope and a bipod lug. I've noticed that over the years, my trigger has almost become a 2 stage. I've figured out where the slack is, then after that is where the hammer drops. The distance isn't much and takes a little bit to find it. This is the best varmit gun I have.

It seems that some are having difficulty finding mags for their 795s. I've got about a half dozen each of the 7rnd and 10rnd mags I could part with.

Just picked up my 795 two weeks ago from Big 5; popping its cherry next friday now that weather is perfect for outdoor shooting.

I got two spare mag's from Big 5 also, but had to go to two separate locations to pick them up.

Most Big 5's will have a 24-hour reservation on outdoors equipment - make sure to call in and reserve the mag, they tend to go fast. If you jawbone with the outdoors dept. employee, you can get them to give you information on when they are making their next PO to the distribution center, and what their order qty. is going to be. If they are really nice, they can look up stock in other local locations as well for you.

From my experience, the distribution center seems to only ship half of what the individual stores order due to high demand short supplies on .22 ammo and accessories.

But once you know when the order delivery is coming in, call them in the morning to check stock, reserve and then pick up in the afternoon. They have a pretty regular delivery schedule so its pretty easy to time it... the hard part is waiting in anticipation.

Yes, these are great little rifles! I just need to take mine back out on a less windy day to see why I was hitting to the right of the target (direction wind was blowing as well). These were sitting, some standing at 25 yds.

It was my first time with the 795 so I may just need to get used to it. Next time, I will try and let someone else shoot it to see if it is just me... Any input?

Default Marlin 795

I was looking for a Model 60, but there seem to be a drought of them in the South Bay, but I did find a 795 on sale at Big 5 for $129 after the rebate. I picked that up and a scope. I've owned handguns for 25 years, but this is my first rifle.

Took it to the range and was shooting some Remington Golden Bullet and had several misfires. The firing pin struck, but no bang. Fed the bullets in again and they fired fine a second time. Not sure what the issue is, whether it doesn't like that ammo or what.

Haven't mounted the scope yet either. Not quite sure how. I'll figure it all out eventually, but if you've got info about the misfires or scope mounting, please let me know.

my dads doesnt fir the golden bullets either, they are crap for auto loaders. the scope uses a dove tail mount, we got a scope with mounts for $45 at big 5. works great

I use the winchester hyper x...had only one misfire in several hundred rounds... I don't know about refeeding the bullets a second time into the chamber...there has to be some safety issue with that.

As for a scope..I picked up a Bushnell .22 rimfire 3-9. worked great but the zero was a pain. The Bushnell had scope mounts attached and you just screw it on over the ejection port.

It's a great little rifle.

my scope and rings were more expensive than the rifle itself. but they just made it more awesome!!! i posted a pic in the rimfire gallery.

hey cap't jack, the grouping on the left is what i got on iron sights at 50 yds. but mine is lower left but still on the black still (6" shoot-n-c). of course dummy me didn't realize the sights were adjustable for elevation. it did take a while to get used to iron sights. just a little hard on my eyes because it gets to a point i cannot tell where the front sight post is when it blends in the black of the target.

kevmorris, i used federal automatch 40 grain, federal bulk 550 36 grain and the winchester HV 36 grain. it liked all 3. i was really surprised it liked the winchester when i used it with the scope. of course, i'm seeing like a 6" drop or so trying to shoot it at 100. LOL I'm like, where the the bullet go on a verticle 3 circle target. i don't remember any FTF or fail to fire. i seem to be getting that on my GSG these days (now and then). but i'm figuring on the GSG, it's a light primer strike.

Thanks for the input high, I dialed in the elevation, now I just have to shoot straight instead of to the right! I'm going back out next week to see if it was just me getting used to it.

Thanks people. I've read all the discussion about the 795 and it has convinced me to get one. Went to Big5 and laid down my money. The Big5 price of $149 is still good until May 25th and the Marlin rebate is good through December 2009.

I'm looking forward to doing a review between it and my old Deluxe Ruger 10/22 that I've had since 1989. I've had some luck finding rimfire ammo recently so with these two I can keep my shooting skills going.

Here are my targets at 100 yards with the marlin 795 with the winchester hyper hv and a bushnell 3-9 .22 rimfire scope.

It's a fun rifle!

Default Marlin 795 field report

Today I took the 795 out for the first time. Set up at 50 yards and was shooting 36 Grain HP Federal ammo. The rifle was a joy to shoot. Ran a total of 230 rounds through it with 5 FTEs. Due to the construction of the rifle, I consider these to be break-in FTEs. Most occurred initially and the frequency went down as more rounds were fired. The action and receiver seem to be cast, so this little gem definitely needs a break-in period. I recommend lubrication for all new users.

I also had Tech-Sights installed and it took about 30 rounds to zero it in. I highly recommend these sights.

Here are my targets. As you can see, this rifle groups very nicely, and most rounds were 9 ring or better.

Definitely a great value for a $150 rifle!

Thanks for the range report! I'm comping at the bit because mine is held hostage by the PRK until 5/31/09.

how much adjustment did you have to do on your scope? or was this irons (same question if so). I think last and only time I tried 100 yds so far, it was like a 6-9" drop. Anyone has ballistic info on rimfire bullets? generally speaking?

6-9 inch drop sounds about right going from 50 to 100 yards took about 10 rounds to zero in. I shot at the top of the target and made adjustments from there ..I did have several fliers (probably the winchester round) and only one FTF out of 300 rounds.

I noticed that the Marlin mail in rebate has expired, is there another one?

Just placed an order for some Tech-Sights, those stock sights reminded me of my crossman!

THANK YOU FOR THIS THREAD!

The paper one I got from Big5 says that it is good through December 2009. Is that the same one you got?

Yes sir, they must have had the old one. Maybe I should go back, but I've seen printable forms online from the last rebate, shouldn't there be something like that for this one?

The first page is just an add, the second page(what looks to be the reverse side of the commercially printed flier) is the page with all the important information so it would only make sense to send that part in.

That link is the same rebate form I picked up at Big5.

The "STEP 3" part is the sticker on the plastic bag that the rifle come in. That is if there is not a sticker on the end of the box.

i would prefer to run a scope since I don't have a .22 rifle with a scope yet. I'm leaning right now towards a bushnell 3x-9x because I am trying to make it a budget rifle. Will probably run that scope and a cheap bipod from walmart to keep the costs down.

for bipod, i went to wally world and got the rockpod by shooter choice. it sucks though, imho. but with a cheap plinker, i put the money into a better glass and rings instead. dunno how long before i get annoyed with the bipod though. you can get cheap scope at wally world too. i've not seen the leopold scope or rings that some have mentioned.
