Default 2/15/14 and 2/16/14 Robert (Bob) Vogel IDPA/USPSA Competition Pistol Class at Prado

So I got in touch with Robert and the manager at Prado shooting park.

There were very limited time slots but we made it happen!

Tentative date will be 2/15 and 2/16!

Here's how this will work:

1) PM me your name, cell phone and other forms of contact, and the amount of people you have

2) I will put you and your group down on the list of people who are attending and then give you the payment information (if Robert requires it be paid in advance)

This will be on a first come first serve basis.

For those of you that don't know, Vogel is a world class champion shooter:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oCTn12qvO9o

The rules, tuition fee and schedule are as follows:

The cost of the class will be $425 for 2 days.

I am working something out with Robert right now to allow students with limited availability to attend for just 1 day. Update to come.

"These prices include my expenses and usually the range/target fees." This means $425 is the TOTAL amount you pay. He covers the range fee.

No equipment and level/experience restrictions, as long as everyone is safe. But please don't sign up if you have not drawn from a holster, it would be unfair (and quite expensive) to you.

Bring about 500 rounds for each day, so 1000 rounds total. Reloads are 100% acceptable *As long as they are safe*

Minimum class size is usually 10, and maximum class size is 16

Total so far: 15(16 for day 2)!!!

Kodemonkey 2
Hans Gruber 1
relaxalot 1
jeff361 1
roundeye (day 2 only) 1
erejota 1
MFM000 1
Katie 1
David 1

Please PM me or call me at (909)837-7667 if you do not see your name on this list. Allow me 6 hours to update this list.

Course outline is as follows (to be copied and pasted when he sends it to me):

Quote:
Hey Hank, below is the general description for my "Competitive Pistol"
class. As far as what we will be doing in the class: Day one will be
more on the fundamentals covering grip, stance, trigger control (among
other skills) and shooting mostly shorter simpler drills. Day two will
get more involved with some longer more complicated drills and preferable
a stage or two at the end of the day. If there are any special targets
available such as swingers, plate racks, Texas stars, dueling trees I
would also make use of them. There will also be a lecture portion in the
first part of each day where I cover topics such as dry fire, strength
training, practice for skills, practice for matches, shooting stages and
the all important mental game. This is just a general overview, if you
have any specific questions just let me know.

This course will focus on all that is needed to excel in Practical Pistol
shooting competition. Fundamentals and techniques will be discussed in
great detail and students will not only learn the “how” but also the “why”
of certain aspects of shooting. Geared mostly towards competitors in
USPSA, IPSC and IDPA the rules, equipment, strategy and nuances of these
disciplines will be thoroughly covered. From dryfire to basic classifier
drills to shooting actual stages it is all a part of this class. Last but
not least match strategy and the all important “mental game” will be
talked about as well. Regardless of where you’re at skill wise this
course contains what you need to take yourself to the next level.

Hey Matt,

I am organizing the class and to have him come down,

so the good news is you get to decide when you want to attend the class!

Perfect!

have them vote on the poll, and I'll submit the consensus to Robert.

That way he (and everyone here) can set a concrete date.

The benefit of this is that we're dealing directly with him, so we get a small discount for not having to sign up through a training group.

Sorry, a little confused:

......................
2) 2 day classes are $425 per student...

If he flies down here, he can stay for a few days, and different groups can each take 1 day classes. i.e. Group 1 will take a 1 day class on Saturday, and Group 2 will take a 1 day class on Sunday.
.........................................
What happened to the 2-day classes?

Thank you...

Hey sorry for the confusion I caused!

Basically, some members would like to attend the class, but may not necessarily be able to afford $425 for 2 days.

So we're keeping the option open for 1 day classes at $333 to $250 per student so that everyone can at attend at least a day of instruction.

When the general interest and participation level has been gauged, I will start a poll on whether most of us prefer a 1 day class or 2 day class.

Please let me know if you have any other questions/concerns/confusions.

Two days are better than one.

10 shooters better than 16 and I'm personally okay with rate increase. More personal attention and no relays.

Anytime after January.

Concentration on speed and efficiencies.

I would love to do a two day class but with 1 year old twins, a one day would make more practicle sense with my situation.

Thanks,

Do you know an approximate round count?

I'll ask Robert about the round count!

Once the votes get to 20 I will contact him about setting a concrete date,

since I know things happen and not everyone can follow through.

I'm interested in two days.

I'd be more interested in an IDPA targeted course than a USPA one, but I like to see more personal attention, and drills that improve/test the aspects of action pistol shooting.

Something to keep in mind is that in February the IDPA Indoor Nationals are in Ma, and in September the IDPA Outdoor Nationals are in Ok.

Got an email from Robert. He said 500 rounds per day just to be on the safe side: "As far as round count I usually put it at 500rds per day per student to be on the safe side."

I didn't ask him about whether reloads would be okay, so I'll double check just to make sure. But earlier in the thread he did mention that there are no equipment restrictions as long as everyone is safe.

Just to give you SoCal guys some basis, I took Bob's 2 day class up here at Richmond last Spring and set aside 1200 rounds of 9mm for the course. With all the drills we shot I had just around 250 rounds left at the end of the class. So 450-500 rounds per day would be a good benchmark.

Also this was still in the depths of the ammo shortage and I believe Bob adjusted the course a bit for that as well.

Since the class was a competition/practical handling focused class I dont think reloads would be an issue if that is what you shoot matches with. I shot factory ammo but I know some in the class shot their normal match reloads for training consistency (I don't reload so I only shoot factory new/reman).

I sure most of you guys already know that the class wont be a "tactical" one unless you count stage breakdown and such as so. Bob teaches practical pistol handling/shooting performance with an emphasis on competition applications.

Definietly learned a lot from Bob, both from the instruction and his demos (he demoed everything in our class first). He's a good instructor and as we all know an even better shooter! If you go you'll have a blast, pun intended , literally.

I agree. Please note that shooting skill is shooting skill. Once you attain high level of mastery of the fundamentals, you will be able to perform well in both games. Probably, why alot of the top IDPA shooters (Bob included) are also the top USPSA shooters and vice versa.... as well as top 3gunners.. as well as Steel Challenge.. as well as Bianchi cup... you get my drift...

Can't wait till he's in town..

How many shooters, one or two relays and did you get "adequate" personal diagnostics from Bob?

Personally, if you set aside the time, pay the reasonable course fee and don't have to pay for travel & lodging you should set aside at least 1,000 rounds for the two days. Taking a course means getting enough practice during it so that the instruction sinks in.

I believe we had 10-12 shooters in the class. RR&GC has a big enough bay that we didn't have any relays unless the drill called for it (ex. a barrel drill similar to Hackathorn's snake drill which was run individually).

Bob was pretty was big on helping diagnose shooting issues and answering questions, he's very approachable. He helped me diagnose a trigger control issue I had been struggling with in my quest to build speed while maintaining accuracy for example.

FYI The class he taught at Richmond was also primarily presented from a IDPA/USPSA aspect. I asked him how it differed from the classes he teaches through Grey Group and he said those omitted a lot of the competition skills aspect and were more pure shooting driven. So that's one consideration

There's a 2-Day Mike Pannone Advanced Handgun on March 1-2, 2014 at Prado. So, the following weekend works better.
