Default Another question about a scope... **UPDATED** 9/11

Talked to a guy today who has one on his .50 and he swears by it. The research I have found online says it is made for a .50 and is built to withstand the recoil. Plus it has a lifetime warranty... Anyone ever hear of these? Thoughts? Thanks!

Magnification 12-36
Objective diameter 80 mm
Mounting 30 mm Rings
Bullet drop calibers .50 Bmg
Rangefinding 3000 yard
Illuminated reticle Yes
Length 500 mm
Eye relief 90 mm
Power source 3v (CR2432) included
Battery life 100 hours
Sun shade Yes (47 mm) Yes (47 mm)
Recomended use S50
Adjustment windage and elevation at 100 yds

If you own a .50 Cal. BMG our 12-36x80 is a must. Specifically designed for this potent rifle, the 12-36x80 has a 1000-yard BDC and a 3000-yard range finder built-in.
The custom designed mounting ring, which incorporates the BDC, insures easy and precise adjustments. An 10 position illuminated reticle prevents you from losing sight of your reticle even in the darkest of conditions. The 80mm lens is one of the largest objective lenses available giving you the brightest image possible.

RUN! I've got an empty paper towel roll that will work better and longer. ATNs do not hold up on a 50. Do not do it! If you have extra money lying around, donae it to BWO! There is a reason that you will not see an ATN at a FCSA match. They don't hold up! You would be much better off with $300 supersniper than any ATN. Also, this is a case where size does matter. ATNs are physically big and bulky and the larger the scope, the more of a beating it takes during recoil.

Please, give it a day or two and a few more regular 50 shooters here will confirm that my ranting is true.

ATN, Barska, Tasco...steer clear, unless your goal is to find how many ronuds it takes completely destroy one using a 50. I'm guessing it'll be in the teens.

Ok another question... I have been looking at scopes, reading about scopes for the last hour and I have decided on the IOR Valdada 9-36x56 Tactical Scope; 35mm Tube Illuminated MP8. My only question is don't i want the mil-dot no MP8?

MP8 is actually better because it has half mil marks. I run the 4x14x50 with it and last weekend I used it to great effect at 800 yards. I had no issues hitting a target 1moa in size at 300 yards (3"). It was very effective at helping me mill targets as well.

Why such high power??? Are you going to be varmint hunting with it? FOr tact/prec use you'll find something in the 4-16 range much more practical. Hell mine rarely gets taken off 12X even at 1K yards. At higher power mirage will eat your shorts.

The price difference between the 22 and the 36 was less than $150 so I thought why not.

That is exactly what I am shopping for. Plus I thought since I will only be shooting the BOHICA every now and then I can use larue QD mount and switch the mount between my Savage and the BOHICA.

Mirage can be your friend. You just need to learn how to read it. It can show you approximate wind speeds, wind direction etc. I'm just beginning to learn about it.

Thats what I will have to do as well. I seriously doubt Ill have the funds to smash through a couple hundread rounds of 50DTC each range trip. So im sure she will see more safe time than anything. Would be a shame to get a $1000+ scope just to see the roof of the safe

Hence, your statement. Plenty of mirage can be seen at 16x. More than enough for wind evaluation.

You don't need the hubble to read mirage, just remember the higher the power the more the mirage, the more mirage the more distorted your target and the less likely your shot will be true. If you want high power optics to see mirage use your spotter. Most LR shooters find 12X to 16X a happy medium. Like I said my scope rarely comes off 12X unless I crank it to 16X for target ID.

All ya gotta do is aim a little bit in the opposite direction of the mirage! Ok.. it's a little more complicated (degree of mirage and distance) than that.. but it can be done!

Yeah, a little...if you take your scope and put it a little out of focus, you can see it better. But put it out of focus toward you. If you put the focus beyond the target, it reverses the direction of the mirage. I wouldn't have believed it if I didn't see it!

You guys are getting way technical now . . . sounds like I need to make the targets approx .75 MOA for the given range in my next match just to make it competitive

no, 1 moa is plenty fine. it irritates me, when i shoot right around the ridge on the 3/4 inch dot drill.

Actually.. the 3/4 inch dot drill at 100 yards IS .75 MOA already I think he was talking about the other stages.

Yes the 100 yard dot drill is .75MOA (gotta love those file dots and I can get them in so many different colors ) I do have some 1" dots but I have way more file dots hehehehehe

I was thinking maybe a 6" plate for the 850 yard shots - 6/8ths = .75MOA Just kiddin'
