Default Transport and use BB assault weapons while registration pending?

I registered some BBAWs, but a little late, and likely the registration is going to "pend" past the June 30 deadline.

Informally people have told me that this is OK, since the registration in, as long as no major problems crop up. (There shouldn't be trouble, but hearing about some of the stuff that's happened to some people, I'm preparing myself for glitches.)

Do I need to do anything special as far as handling the guns in the interim? Can I continue to take them out and shoot them? What about past the June 30 deadline?

I personally wouldn’t shoot them or transport them even separated in BB form past June 30th until registration letters are in hand.

Some may recommend transporting it with lower/upper separated because it’ll no longer be semi-automatic, but someone being over-zealous can cause you some headaches. I’ve seen a thread here that references a few cases that resulted in [upheld] felony convictions for people who simply had enough parts to build an CA “assault rifle”.

I am of the mindset that it is registered once you click submit, even if you don’t have your letter in the mail. I would print the confirmation and roll with that, but this is not legal advice, of course.

The exemption that allows for possession is only valid until 07-01-2018.

There is no exemption that allows for possession while your assault weapons registration application is being processed after 06-30-2018.

IMO...
If your assault weapons registration is still pending, then starting 06-30-2018, do the following until your assault weapons registration application is resolved:
1. Disassemble the firearm into parts.
2. Store the parts in different locked containers.

Keep in mind that your application being resolved can go two ways, approved or rejected.
Simply submitting the application is no guarantee that it will be approved.

100% agree. Keep in mind that once 7/1/2018 comes around the CA DOJ has proof that you in fact had a BBAW and if you haven’t gotten your registration paperwork then they have an excuse to pay you a visit to see if those unregistered BBAW’s are still assembled in an assault weapon configuration.

I expect that we will all hear of the DOJ starting to confiscate from those individuals who submitted late and have not gotten their paperwork by 7/1/2018. Be careful and disassemble everything you have guys...

IANAL but I believe that separating the upper and lower and storing them separately would suffice.

To be safe you could break down more, definitely wouldn’t hurt

I cable locked my lower receivers. I figured that would suffice.

yeah i have a ton of cable locks I never use, so I might separate upper and lower and then cable lock the receivers.

Gawd, I’m cringing at the thought of how many people will be in violation come 7/1/2018.

Lord have mercy.

Mine are all sitting safely across the border. Unlike "undocumented immigrants", these won't cross the line until they have papers.

Can you imagine how many are ignorant to the new laws?

Lots of my coworkers have been too proud to study up and now they’re panicking... “what do I do!?!?”

I can’t say I have much simpathy for any of them. I’ve been studying and reading into every part of the new laws since day one, I’ve been warning them too...
