Default Open Carry During a SHTF situation.

Hey guys I just wanted to try and get a feeling for how we all feel about Open carrying during a SHTF situation.

During the Christopher Dorner scare police officers were on such edge that they managed to shoot 2 separate vehicles due to slight resemblances of the suspects vehicle. During this situation there was a large amount of stress on the LAPD and I would imagine this level of stress would not even remotely compair to a SHTF situation. So my point being would you feel safe open carrying during a SHTF situation?

Do you feel there will be a shoot first ask questions later policy which would all but disvalue things such as CCW?

In a SHTF situation.. I won't be able to conceal what I'm carrying.. on the same note.. carrying openly may make you a target..

I believe open carry will make you a target for police who will try to disarm you for their safety and if Martial Law was declared I feel even stronger that they would try to disarm the public. So for me I'd carry concealed.

Take note to what happened during the LA Riots, Katrina, etc. There is a lot of precedence as to how LEO and National Guard react during a SHTF situation that should not be discounted. Normal citizens begin to be looked at as "insurgents" when there is a crisis and people are shooting, rioting, burning, etc. Do you want to be carrying then? They don't care who is "good" or "bad" then.

In a true SHTF senario, rule of law, the Police and National Guard are not present. Then its every man for themselves...do what you think you need to in order to survive.

I think OC makes you a target, so CC in public.

In that situation, CC only! I don't want to be a target for police/military or criminals. Probably wouldn't leave the house much either. Unless I had no choice.

I guess it depends on the SHTF situation.

If we're talking complete breakdown (like we've never seen) or regional Katrina/riot type situations.

I expect a complete breakdown means that cops and military have gone home to care for and protect their families. At that point I would OC but I also wouldn't be in 'public'.

For Katrina/riot type situations, CC all the way.

In a real disaster situation, I and all my neighbors will open carry. There is only one way in and out on our street. It will be blocked and no one will be able to enter unless they live there.

CC...wouldn't be looking for trouble but if it found me I would rather be prepared.

Depends. If its like all out SHTF commies or zombies then I carry openly with my AK. Now if its some what controlled chaos with no need for a rifle then id pack a pistol or 2 under my jacket When I had to
Leave the house.

Open carry only brings you unwanted attention.... If it's a true WROL situation, you'll want to blend in as being one of the masses. You can get to your pistol plenty quick when concealed. If you can't, then practice drawing from your concealed holster until you get it down. I think a lot of people get all hyped up thinking they are going to be strutting around in their Airsoft BDU's and looking like an operator of some sort.... This will likely get you killed. Either by LE who assesses you as a threat, or by someone else who shoots you because they want your gear. Stay gray, blend in, maintain situational awareness and keep your gun concealed.

If the SHTF could you all please strap on all your pistols, sling up 2 or 3 rifles and carry your shotty. Also please pile in 1000 rnds for each or whatever you can hump in a pack and strap on that puppy. Then take a stroll down my street.
Thanks Much Appreciated.

Depends what kind of SHTF sotuation it is. If its a riot situation and you are protecting your home or business the OPEN CARRY all thr way. You want to show the criminals that you are not to be messed with. Also let police officers know that you will not be disarmed and that the same rules that apply to criminals trying to disarm you applies to them. If you're trying to get across town or out of the city by yourself then concealed carry. If its true SHTF you hopefully have friends and family you can eother arm or have guns of their own and yoi can all move as a group with weapons presented openly in order to deter smaller groups from trying to take your supplies.

I just think it depends on the situation. My BOB has a IWB holster in it and I don't even have a plan to take a rifle. Go low profile with a Glock.

Every situation and circumstance will be different and will require a different posture for weapons carry. Situations can vary from block to block for the same event and while CC may be appropriate on one street a few blocks over OC may be more appropriate.

Most situations will also be localized to the extent that while local entities may be over burdened outside help is on the way sooner or later so keeping a low profile in most cases may be your best bet from future LE encounters after the fact.

Life is not MW3 and there is no Re-gen.

i'm planing on getting glock26 or XDS in .40 or .45 with IWB holster so CC.
but since i live in LA, i could miss the short time frame of even trying to get out of the city, then i will be OCing in the roof and any other entrance with my neighbors until things calm down or till i figure out how where and how to get out.

Open and concealed are both crimes now (other than for certain special people, of course), so might as well go for the gold.

Conceal a handgun, and keep a rifle or shotgun ready in your vehicle.

This. IF I have to walk around, I'll look like some homeless dude who has nothing to offer and is the last person you notice on the street.

No law enforcement agency patrols our neighborhood. We live in the county and the only time I've seen a sheriff's vehicle was when a neighbor filed a burglary report.
If I open carried now, they would probably pop up out of no where.

That's true. Depending on the SHTF senario some sort of L.E. may still be in effect. Which means carrying is still illegal regardless of cc or oc without a permit. I would almost always carry concealed. I have plenty of pistols as well as my Keltec SU-16 which folds or even my old coach gun could be "sawwed off". Wouldn't be good for much distance but still more effective than any pistol.

During the aftermath of the Nortridge EQ in 1994, things were bad---no electric, no gas, no water. My brother lived right on top of the EQ---all the neighbors set-up BBQ grills on their front lawns to cook the food from their refrigerators before it spoiled (and drink the beer before it got warm)---during this time the local Shiitbird gang guys started cruising around, looking for trouble---all the folks went into their houses and came out wearing pistols openly---end of problem! So, sometimes open carry, sometimes concealed...

I would never carry openly. If you are not a bonified threat to my life, you will never know I have a firearm.
