Save the heart!!! It’s sacrilege not to eat the heart. It’s the best thing to eat on the whole deer anyway.

Yeah I like the heart too, much better than liver that's for sure. As for the back straps and tenderloin well.... that trumps the heart.

Congrats on your first buck!

Thanks Guys! Wow, I didn't realize there were so many hunting enthusiasts here! Awesome!

On a side note, does anyone else feel weird reloading Brass that was used to shoot the deer?

I've saved brass from rounds used the take animals and will get one of those deep frames for two or three pics and put up a photo of me and the animal in one spot, glue the brass and bullet (if recovered) in the other one, and occasionally put a google earth map of where I tagged it in the last.

Now that is a great idea! I feel like keeping the round/framing the Picture will help me to appreciate the Hunt/Deer long after the meat is gone.

Here is the last Deer I shot 2 years ago in Austria. It was a 2year old Doe (European Elk)

I also had a much more respectable beard back then. Then job interviews rolled around...

Here is where I was hunting in the Foothills of the Austrian Alps. I wish I would have taken some pictures earlier in the evening. The view behind me was stunning, as you can see in the Second picture.

The rifle I was using is a Steyr Mannlicher 30-06, with a Carl Zweiss Illuminated 3-9x44.

Made the shot at 205m according to the range finder.
