CIB is the same damn thing as a CAB, I got one of those. Haters will hate, lets hate on those who didn't ever leave a FOB.

there are 2 jobs in the Army, Infantry and Infantry support. You're either a rock star or a roadie.
Had some 1-509th attached with us in Iraq in 2004 - 2005. Good group of guys.

Edit: Just looked at some notes, and pics. It was alpha and bravo company that we worked with

Yeah, I was A co 1-509 from '06-'07. A lot of the guys I was with were with that group attatched to 10th Mountain. There was some debate as to which patch they wore on their right shoulder. Most chose 10th Mounatin, some chose the JRTC winged sword. I think they were authorized both.

In '07 when I transfered to 4th Brigade it was because they were seriously under strength and needed augmentees to deploy. I was chosen (kinda flattering actually. They had a full tryout process and all that) and put in my transfer, but we were still seriously under manned. I thought that doing an attatched company of Paratroopers like in '04-'05 would have helped out a lot more.

Did you ever earn your Mountain tab? Find some fat whale that weighed your PT score and you HAVE to bust. Many attempted, few succeeded.

Or Koalafying? Who did that when they first got to their unit?

Probably not quite as enjoyable, but as far as Mountain Tabs go, I did graduate Mountain Warfare School with the Chilean Army... when I got to 4th Brigade, I think I was the only one around wearing a Mountain tab that had actually been to a Mountain School.

As far as the girl that weighed my PT Score? hmmm... I never weighed any, and while I seriously doubt it, there were a few black out nights that are unaccounted for.

Oh man F*CK THOSE GUYS!
God damn, I had forgotten all about that. Jesus-tap-dancing-christ.

Or how about when you score really big and get to escort a convoy from your crappy jcop to one of the big LSA's like Anaconda where they have the big PX, MWR tents, internet, ice cream, Burger king etc-and the people who live there are walking around in civies after they get "off of work" and snicker at you because you look and smell like you've been showering from a canteen for 6 months.

Oh hell you got me mad!

It's a vacation not a deployment.

Myself and a few guys from my platoon got sent to a big FOB to do CROWS training for a week (for CROWS that we were going to get but never did). Every single day we got *****ed at by someone because our uniforms were torn to shreds and dirtier than the ground. It looked like we had multicam on instead of ACUs from a distance haha. We also got *****ed at by our brigade CSM because our sleeves were rolled up once (on the inside). On mission they would be rolled way up but were always up that one roll where the velcro was and he flipped out. He even said, "I don't care if you are getting shot at by the Taliban you will have your sleeves rolled down and in proper uniform." I guess the pics and videos of us fighting in PT shorts and no t-shirts would give him a heart attack.

We came up with a saying for those types of people. "This is their war."

Of speaking of CSM's! My last CSM was the biggest reason I left the Army.
He actually used one of the 4 UAV's our brigade had for inspecting the uniforms of soldier on patrol and in combat.
It was not uncommon for a platoon to be on patrol and their 7 element get a call from CSM *****ing him out because one of the joe's had his chinstrap loose/unbuttoned.
He took combat assets and used them to enforce 870-1 on soldiers in combat. Ya, kinda made me crazy.

How about the PSG that has been hiding at a schoolhouse for 10 years and needs to do a rotation on the line to get his 8? We had a bunch of these guys. One actually told me we needed to be harder on the guys with the uniform wear and appearance to enforce discipline. Looked at me like I was the worst NCO ever when I told him we shouldn't micromanage them and use big boy rules.

My guys *****ed to our chaplain that I made them keep their barracks and gear clean, and my First Sergeant told me that I had no right to enforce the standard I set on my section. Told him well then, I quit! Lol!

Lol!
Jesus that's ridiculous. Our battalion CSM was a good guy. I guess I got lucky with my senior leadership. All were great leaders. My CO was a PL in the Korengal and was awarded a Silver Star before coming to us. Awesome guy.

Can't believe your 1SG told you you couldn't enforce barracks cleanliness. I had to inspect my guys' barracks once a week and 1SG and CO inspections every other week. Then again Fort Drum does have a big alcohol and drug problem.

Well what I was refering to was while deployed, in the rear we had a similar inspection schedule. And a similar drug problem!

5 minutes before PT formation one of my *hit bags runs up to me

"Hey Sergeant...um...can I not go to PT today, please?"

"WTF is wrong with you?"

"Um...I'm...tripping bad man. Rave last night, still trippin"

"Oh sweet jesus...*walks toward 1SG* Hey Top! Got an issue here!"
