Default Marlin 795 thread

Just thought it would be a good idea to start a thread on the Marlin 795 as I am sure there were a few calgunners that bought these recently. I picked one up at Big 5 for $187 otd, but it has a $20 rebate from Marlin to bring it down to $167. Not bad for a nice little .22 semi. Some of the free states had them for $120 or less with the rebate.

I could have gotten a 10/22 for $80-100 more but I just wanted an inexpensive plinker to teach rifle fundamentals to new shooters and pop some soda cans. Besides, that money will buy me 5-6 bricks of ammo.

In case anyone is interested in getting one, the sale at Big 5 is over (it does come back pretty regularly) and you can still get the rebate from Marlin so you might be able to find it elsewhere. Sports Authority and a bunch of other places actually.
http://www.marlinfirearms.com/PDFs/2...ebate-Form.pdf (This is the new Marlin 795 rebate for $25, expires 12/31/11)

There is also a thread in the centerfire rifle forum about these.

Some goodies for the 795:

You can get Tech Sights for this rifle that are probably an improvement from the stock sights:
http://www.tech-sights.com/

ATI also makes a stock for it, if you want a pistol grip. Shown on a 60 (same receiver) but its supposed to fit the mag fed models as well:
*EDIT - Emailed ATI, they stated that this stock should fit but would require "minor" fitting around the magazine well.*

As they come from the factory:

After the average calgunner gets a hold of it!

Feel free to add anything helpful or just show yours off, I'll have some pics of mine up soon!

Dear god whatever you do, don't use casey birchwood gunscrubber on any of the parts of this rifle. It will flat out eat the trigger group. After much work, I finally got it working again, but it was a bear. This was my first gun and has been an absolute trooper. I got a tube fed marlin revelation with matching japanese glass from the late 60's at a gunshow for 45 bucks and its been wonderful too after fixing the last round open feature. I can't say better things about these rifles, but i'm going to the 10/22 side for features. Also, if i'm not mistaken, I don't think that the ATI stock fits the 795, only the 60 unless some recent additions were made. I looked for it a little less than a year ago, and absolutely no add ons for it.

Yup, sure enough, look at the link above, fits the "Model 60, 75, 990, 995, etc. Tube or Detachable Mag Models .22LR" I'm assuming since it doesn't say 795 anywhere that it doesn't fit it, unless its saying that it fits any detachable mag model.

I read that as it fits tube or detachable mag models but you may be right. I'll send an email to ATI to see what they say about it.

Thanks for the heads up!

Hmmm Coulda sworn that just the other week this rifle was on sale for something like $125 after the rebate. Some big 5's have teh policy of honoring a sale if it was within the last 30 days. That's what I did on a mosin anyway.

Anyway, I almost picked this up, but alas I need a new shift lever and the utility bill came. oh well. maybe next time.

Congrats in the .22, enjoy it.

Those Tech Sights are just great!
I put some on a (Marlin) Glenfield M70 along with a wooden handguard and band from a Marlin 989M2.
It looks and shoots remarkably like my Inland M1 Carbine now.
Way cool!
I think the handguard will also fit on the 795.

I need to see if they have the rebate forms, still. I misplaced mine.

EDIT:

Awww damn... now I want a set of tech sights.

I just got this rifle and I like it a lot... I added a Bushnell 3x9 Rimfire scope on it and it seems to be working well.

Can't seem to find extra magazines for the 795 anywhere... does anyone know where I can get them?

I too picked up a 795 on sale + $20 rebate from big5.
I am in the process of turning it into an MP5 lookalike. It's coming up pretty clean. I will post a pic of it sometime. The transformation is complete I just need to figure out the trigger mechanism.

Order on -line directly from Marlinfirearms.com . I ordered 6 magazines and received them in about a week. Midway also stocks them but they were on backorder and it took them 2 months to arrive. The 795 is a great little .22 . I own two after converting from the Ruger 10/22. The Ruger is a good rifle with unending options , but they are too ammo fussy. The 795 will shoot almost any .22 ammo you feed it.

Brownell's has them, other places too (online). Search is your friend. They aren't cheap, though.

I DROS'ed 2 last Saturday at Big 5 for $129 each after rebates. Can't wait until the waiting is over.

I checked online and literally no one has them... they are all backordered and a lot of places that used to sell them no longer do.

I have a 795... and use it a lot!!! bought cheap a while back... I think I put close to 5k though it... im getting jams here and there from the mags... but other than that works well. The reason i went with this rifle and not the 10/22was b/c of after market part... this way i won't have to be tempted to buy upgrades... the only thing i bought was a cheppy scope... that's it... fun to plink with

I have to pick mine up soon. The question is, does Marlin include a lock of some sort, or do I again need to hit Wally World for a couple locks only to return them again? What kind of lock would work, a cable lock?

My 795. Accurate and super reliable. Shot it yesterday, it's still a super fun rifle as the day I bought it. It was $108 well spent in my opinion.

I work at a Big 5 in the south bay and all the Marlin 795's that we get come with a ShotLock model 10000-ptr4 which according to the paperwork is a CA DOJ approved gun saftey device. Did you happen to get it a Big 5? We would have told you up front if you needed an approved lock for it.

My dad is picking his up tomorrow from big 5, we ordered a $19 red dot with dove tail adapter from midway. He likes red dots better. Thanks to the op for supplying some links for add ons. As for the mags all we could find online were around $25. Maybe the next gun show will have some at better prices.

I recently purchased a Marlin 795 and I have a few questions:

1. For the OP, how is the sling attached in the picture with the bipod? I thought that the bipod connected to the front sling adapter. (ETA: Nevermind, looked more closely at my bipod and saw the sling adapter.)

2. Has anyone tried to lighten the trigger? I find that it feels like a 2-stage trigger with a very light take-up and then an EXTREMELY heavy break. Even using a bipod, I find my sights moving as I try to squeeze the trigger through what I'm calling the 2nd stage.

3. Red-dot, scope, or tech sights? This gun is mainly for plinking at the local 25yd. range.

4. What are the advantages of the ATI stock over the factory stock?

Thanks.

I made a crummy picture of my Glenfield with the hand guard & Tech Sights and also of the Marlin 60 that has a Williams peep sight.[IMG][/IMG]

Also, Arrow Dodger at rimfirecentral has a Powerpoint Presentation for the disassembly job on the similar Model 60.

It fits but requires a couple of minutes work with a Dremel to enlarge the opening for the extra length of the 795 trigger guard (as it has the additional mag well). It's fairly easy to do as it appears to be marked out as the synthetic stock in that area is thinner than the rest of the stock, if I remember correctly.

Using a Dremel high speed cutter like this one makes light work of it : http://www.dremel.com/en-us/Attachme...l.aspx?pid=115

It's a Shooter's Ridge Rock Mount 9"-13" model.

It mounts just like a Harris - to the front swivel stud.

That Marlin 60 looks awsome, I'd never heard of a 989 m2, this seems like an interesting project.

My very first rifle ever. The one that got me into it. It is still the best for all around fun and memories. I did the pimp bipod/scope thing, now I just enjoy the scope and a sling. Shotgun hull killer!

IS the 795 the same as a 60, action-wise?

Other than one being mag fed and the other with a tube magazine, the actions are very much alike, IMHO; as are most (if not all) the Marlin .22 autos.
