Default Do you believe Fish and Game trolls the Hunting forum...

Looking for potential violations or people to keep an eye on?

Based upon some recent threads I thought I would put this out there. Note that I did NOT choose the poll where you can see who voted what.

I doubt they troll looking for it....but I know a warden who comes on here. I doubt they would put a ton of effort into minor offenses but I bet if someone he came accross had a big vialotion or someone cal tipped something very suspicious they would probably look into it.

...that's what gets guys in trouble 90% of the time...not so much the pictures on the forums but on their computers. Not much more evidence needed.

So to me....it depends...

I know on another hunting forum there are a few DFG and USFWS employees that are active on the site. They are positive contributors to the forum. Probably more that are just lurking though

lewdogg, please pardon the jack, but I just couldn't resist . . .

A man was stopped by a game-warden in Northern Algonquin Park recently with two buckets of fish leaving a lake well known for its fishing

The game warden asked the man, "Do you have a license to catch those fish?"

The man replied to the game warden, "No, sir. These are my pet fish."

"Pet fish?!" the warden replied.

"Yes, sir. Every night I take these here fish down to the lake and let them swim around for a while. I whistle and they jump back into their buckets, and I take em home."

"That's a bunch of hooey! Fish can't do that!"

The man looked at the game warden for a moment, and then said, "Here, I'll show you. It really works."

"O.K. I've GOT to see this!" The game warden was curious.

The man poured the fish in to the river and stood and waited. After several minutes, the game warden turned to the man and said, "Well?"

"Well, what?" the man responded.

"When are you going to call them back?" the game warden prompted.

"Call who back?" the man asked.

"The FISH"

"What fish?" the man asked.

They do at Jesse's so I'd imagine they do hear as well.

Just ask Coleman Houston if he's lurking around here.

My guess is some visit the site and may take notice of things. However, given the number of wardens in the state, I would think the have a lot better use of their time if they want to catch violators than to troll CalGuns in the hope of running across an inappropriate situation.

.....yes they do.

If they're going on craigslist to find people selling illegal aninmals/products they're def. looking at other stuff.

Yes I think they do. Ask the dude that posted a deer in his driveway that arrowed, he posted it one day before archery season opened and ended up claiming it was just a joke. His screen name had something to do with spear fishing or something like that. He had links to gobs of trophy fish he had speared, very impressive. It was such a big deal that he deleted his post, and then the site installed an auto-save feature because I think they couldn't do anything with deleted photos.

Try joking about a lion like that and see what happens.

I guess they would and on craigs list also. Anything for an easy buck for the state nowdays.
Personally I do not care.
I hunt/spearfish legal and have never sold any of my take. I do give it to family and some friends. My mom, when she was alive, and my dad really enjoyed the lingcod/halibut/lobster/ab and some of the deer/pronghorn meat and really enjoyed the bear salami I gave my parents. I have not done any spearfishing in awhile but my dad still likes the peppersticks and jerky I give him.
As in another post I may have broken some law while hunting/spearfishing that I did not know but I do keep myself pretty well versed on the laws and I have not had any troubles with the wardens etc I have had contact with. So I feel I can say I obey the laws.

I think there are a lot of advocates for DFG that would forward suspicious posts to appropriate people. Poachers upset a lot of people.

LOL, Tony, please stop guessing at what happened. As I posted before, the auto save is part of the WYSIWYG script that saves the text you type in the text input window as people type their replies. It's a user selected feature on many forums. That feature has been on the JHO forum for years, it had nothing to do with that guy posting his deer before the season opened. He deleted his post before anyone could save it. Auto save was on when he made his post but that has nothing to do with saving posts so a mod or admin can view them. A person would have to manually right click the post or image to save it. It's also a reason some boards have short windows for you to edit your post. Some clowns like to troll a post, than edit or delete it and claim it never happened. That deer hunter got jumped on pretty quick by members for killing the deer out of season and he was quick enough to delete the pics before anyone could save them. The right people saw the post and from last I heard, they were able to come up with a name and he was investigated. People who think they are anonymous and can hide behind screennames on forums need to realize they are not.

They probably do, and I would have no problems reporting anybody here who was admitting to poaching or doing something blatantly illegal.

I've called DFG before to report poaching. People hunting fawns at night with .22LR rifles and beating them to death with clubs are scum. They deserve to get busted.

I agree !

Poachers (which isn't hunting) gives hunters & hunting a bad name.

I remember the story of the guy who shot the deer out of season. Sucks he made a mistake but the law is the law and yes they do go through the forums just like fbi would for potential threats to the nation. I mean wouldnt you? I say get those criminals

Why would you even call it "trolling?" This place has zero tolerance for any illegal activity and we are on the same side with wardens. Anyone here wouldn't like to see poachers crucified?

Maybe for entertainment. More of an argue over obscure game laws and what sidearm to carry at BHCR forum than anything else.

They do. They search forums and social media sites for dumb poachers that brag about their kills. Sometimes they post pics or plans on future activities. This is partly how they get evidence to gain search warrants too. That's how I saw them do it on "Wild Justice."

I'm sure there are a few wardens that hang out here on their own time for the same reasons the rest of us are her, but I doubt they do it as part of their assigned duties.

Yep this is a gun site not a hunting site. The hunting forum is mostly arguing about guns and F&G laws very little hunting going on. Dont see how it would be worth it to spend hundreds and hundreds of hours here to get a cite.

No doubt they have people to search the net, wardens probably don't do it on the clock. I would in my off time though if I was a warden.

Why worry about if you are an ethical hunter/outdoors person. Fair chase hunting is shared wisdom, so I would try to remain positive on sharing hunting topics on this forum. If bad guys post there suff here, well what would you expect? Mother nature is amazing, we are hunter gathers my design. I hope we can share our legal rights of hunting here or anywhere else in the future. My 02 cents.

Opening Sunday of this year'd Dove season, I had contact with three different wardens while hunting the Carizzo Plains. Last weekend, there was a hunt in the same area, planned in the hunting forum and not a single DFG or BLM employee in site.

I'm sure there are some DFG employees on this site but, I doubt they spend much time here solely looking for new violations or tips.
