More than "whipping the public into a frenzy" - the problem is people not thinking for themselves...

If more people gathered facts on their own and not from TV talking heads, the frenzy would be less and common logic would be much greater.

Big money is made by telling people what to think. People need to wake up and think for themselves - if we are ever going to have reasonable approaches to problems.

The US has been a society that thrives on drama for quite a while... As long as there is hunger for drama - people will feed off it rather than make serious decisions based on self enlightenment... Too much of life is a game to (many) people... Many would rather complain and protest about stuff than truly understand it and make logical decisions.

I've heard Sept 20th for committee vote and Sept 27th for entire senate.

Approximately.

I think they'd like him in place for the big conference, whenever that is (thought late September).

The SCOTUS conference where they decide what cases they will hear is the week of the 24th if I recall correctly.

Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) is moving to set up a Senate Judiciary Committee vote on Brett Kavanaugh's Supreme Court nomination, likely next week.

Grassley's office on Monday sent out an agenda for a business meeting the committee will have on Thursday. Kavanaugh's nomination is included as one of roughly two dozen judicial nominations that could get a vote.

The move means Kavanaugh's nomination could get a vote as soon as this week. But Democrats are expected to delay the vote until next week, meaning Kavanaugh's nomination will likely be taken up by the committee on Sept. 20.

Under committee rules, any one senator can delay a nomination by a week when it's on the agenda for the first time, as Kavanaugh's nomination will be on Thursday. Nominations are routinely held over for a week.

Grassley had previously indicated last Thursday that he would place Kavanaugh's nomination on the committee's agenda for Sept. 13.

Grassley's notice on Monday formally sets in motion the Republican plan of getting Kavanaugh confirmed to the Supreme Court by October, when the justices will start their next term.

A lot of Ds cancelled their meetings with Kavanaugh as a gesture of protest against Trump, but that has the end result of speeding up the process.

Kavanaugh won't be perfect by any stretch, but for the 2A we need him on the Court, if only to test the Kennedy theory, so the sooner he's aboard the better.

Since it is easy to forget who are the potential swing voters in the Senate:

Quote:
If Democrats want to sink his nomination they'll need to peel off at least two Republican senators, as well as keep their entire caucus united.

Democrats' best shot at picking up the two GOP votes are likely Sens. Susan Collins (R-Maine) and Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska), both of whom have previously broken with their party on ObamaCare repeal and abortion legislation.

No Democrats have said they will support Kavanaugh, yet. But several red-state Democrats are viewed as potential "yes" votes.

Democratic Sens. Joe Manchin (W.Va.), Heidi Heitkamp (N.D.) and Joe Donnelly (Ind.) are seen as the Democrats most likely to vote "yes" on Kavanaugh. Several other red- and purple-state Democrats ó including Sen. Doug Jones (Ala.), who wasn't in the Senate for the Neil Gorsuch fight ó also remain undecided.

The red-state Ds are likely to vote for Kav, otherwise they give away too much ground to their challengers back home.
Heitkamp, for example, is behind in the polls to an R even now, she'll have to toe the line AND get lucky. Fail to vote for Kav and her chances will drop to snowball-in-hell levels.

no hold up,things are cruising along as they should. Judiciary committee hearings come first, those were on tv, then come courtesy visits with as many Senators as want to have those visits, so that can take a while. Then the chair of the judiciary committee calls for a vote, and if any member asks for a delay then a 1 week delay is traditionally granted, and the vote will be the following week.

So towards the end of this month. I read they might call the vote around 9/20, then have the vote the next week. The want him seated for the Oct SCOTUS term, and I don't see anything that can stop them from seating him.

It’s over. I’m calling it at 12:22PM. Kavanaugh will not be confirmed. Senator Feinstein just referred the matter to the FBI.

This is such BS. Feinstain feels compelled to pander to her base because she lost the Democratic Partyís endorsement to a more radical socialist.

They really need to start publishing the list of who is invited into the sessions as guests of which politician. Feinstein was the person who invited the Parkland father. Those kind of stunts need to be made available to the public.

By the way, it was Feinstein's dog that came forward with this latest nonsense.

Just all part of the mid-term elections gamesmanship.

The hot gossip about the confidential letter Feinstein sent to the FBI--which she promised to keep confidential but it seems to be leaking out all over the place, including the name of the letter writer appears to be some sort of "sexual indiscretion between a young woman and her then classmate Judge Kavanuagh----when they were in high school together.

Feinstein trotting out the dog and pony in an attempt to stay relevant in an increasingly radical democrat party.
If there were anything there they would have dropped it early and hammered it like a mod in an OT flame war.

I'd just like him to be nominated as soon as possible before centrist Democrats on the fence are forced to back down by party boss Schumer.

She looks every bit her age, and incredibly frail. Always make me sad to see anyone at that age (or even 20 years younger) planning to work until they die.

I am not cheering for her death. She is an incredible individual. I wish her long and healthy retirement.

I am cheering for her not being on the court. Just as I wish Kagan and Sotomayor are not there as well. She infringed on MY rights, she enables thieving California communists, I do not want her deciding those matters.

Well put.

There's just a little more bloodlust in this thread than decent humans should be comfortable with, or condoning with silence.
