Trapperjohn, I think that sounds like the perfect excuse to meet on the skeet field.

Eats - I have the cleaning kit for you. Let me know how to get it to you.

Come on out! The weather should be perfect, and less crowded clinics mean more time on station, and so, more education!

Sounds great. Looking forward to it. Check your PM. Thanks.

Charles - didn't get the pm - there seems to be an intermittent problem receiving pm. I regret the difficulty, but I've registered you for the 3/20 clinic.

Charles007 and 30cal 3vGT - glad you had a great time, and totally not surprised.

If you would, please post your thoughts and comments to the recap that ceh383 posted in the Shotgun Discussions forum. That's where most who may be interested will see them.

Thanks and come again for the next level of instruction!

Any ideas if it rains this weekend? Should we change dates? Kind of don't want to shoot in the rain all day haha

The coaches live for rain. Soaking, dripping, wet rain. You will be fine.

Please double check availability of the 5/15 date. That is the last day of the State Skeet Championship. I'm afraid there might be a conflict ...

Thanks Jordan, I'll check.

The dates were set last December for all of 2016; Billie gave me the calendar with all the dates to avoid due to conflicts, and I worked around those. At the time, 5/15 was clear.

I'll check ASAP and act accordingly. Thanks again.

New dates for June are up! With the cooler June weather, it is a great time to come to a clinic and have a blast with terrific people.

If you're new to shooting, it is the BEST way to learn how to most effectively shoot a shotgun, for any purpose!

If you're an old hand, come on out and get some refreshers and shake out some bad habits! Most importantly, come show the new shooters how it's done, and how much fun it can be - be the reason a new shooter gets hooked!

Hope to see you on the field soon. Good luck and safe shooting!

They're coming, but the clinic schedule is dictated by other things Triple B schedules.

Question for you, sir: My wife & I are in the financial position of "One must do all". We each have one shotgun, one rifle, one pistol. Hers is a 22" mossberg with full choke and mine is 18.5" winchester with extra full choke. We toss clays to each other by hand and from our allen thrower, but do we have enough barrel length to actually bust anything while doing skeet? Neither of us know much about skeet/trap and the training classes we've been to have kept us within 30 yards.

You need at least a minimum 24" (26"?) barrel to shoot at Triple B's.

Don't let that stop you, though. There are loaners available.

What Eats means is that while Triple B Clays does rent guns ($10 for common semi-autos, $50 for high end guns), the clinic coaches have loaned guns to use during the clinic. They do a very good job of matching and fitting the gun to the shooter.

So to enjoy these clinics, you don't even need to own a gun!

As for the guns you have, it is both barrel length and choke construction that limits what you can do with them. The barrel lengths make them not allowed at most ranges, while the chokes (assuming they are not screw-in chokes) makes learning proper technique much more difficult, since it is hard to tell if a missed target was due to improper technique or a small, tight pattern from the choke.

So check out the dates and come learn to shoot clays! You will certainly have a great time together doing it.

Good luck and safe shooting.

I thought to attempt a brief report on the Calguns skeet clinic for those that don’t know what you are missing for a mere $30.00, which anyone who has been around clays can tell you is an incredible bargain. That is $30 for the clinic, which took the entire morning, and not just an hour! Before talking about the clinic, I have to comment on the venue; Triple-B Clays on South Rosemead just off the 60 freeway in South El Monte. The clinic is held by Coach Don Ziegler. Don is the 1996 20 gauge Senior World Champion. 1996 Champ of Champs Senior Champ. 1993 Zone 7 28 Gauge Champion. 1996 California State Senior HOA Champion. To see what Triple is like, you might also check the pics posted today by ysr_racer on Calguns.

Triple-B is a beautiful venue offering Skeet, Trap, Five Stand, Sporting Clays, and, I believe but am not sure, Bunker Trap. The fields are well maintained and the machines are kept in adjustment, staked, and hooped. Its pro shop is well stocked with beautiful shot guns and accessories, and the grill serves up some good food. Even the weather cooperates to add to your shooting experience. If interested in more about Triple here is a link.

As for the clinic, it is taught by a guy who not only talks the talk but walks the walk, Ziggy. Ziggy is a Hall of Famer who has coached shooters who made the All American Team. The talk is perhaps most important for those of us needing instruction and Ziggy has the knack for not only correcting student’s problems, but spotting those that you may not even realize you have, and then taking things apart and showing a student how to correct an issue. Perhaps one of Ziggy’s most valuable skills is the ability to reach students with varying skill levels. For instance, yesterday there were three plus of taking the clinic. I have a little experience, but am mostly skilled in doing things the wrong way and some of those things are fundamentals that were badly in need of correcting. Then there was a younger guy that could shoot significantly better than me, but there was much that Ziegler had to help Scotus with. Shooter 3 was a young woman that I believe had only once fired a shotgun. To know one’s surprise, Coach had a soft shooting 20 gauge auto loader to loan the young lady. What said much about the class was the smile the girl had on her fact after rather quickly going from poking holes in the sky to killing clays. The plus in the three plus students was a past member of the National All American Team. Ziggy not only focused on the greatly varied needs of all of us, but regardless of different shooting levels we benefited from the instruction given to other clinic members.

I know that I came away with several things to work on, of which some of which I knew I had a problem that I didn’t know how to correct. Then there were a couple of things I never realized were wrong, but when Ziggy pointed them out they clearly were making things difficult. In sum, if you know nothing about skeet or any of the shotgun sports, or if you would like to brush up on technique or weed out some bad habits, I recommend the clinic. If you would like to get some fresh air and sunshine, do the clinic. If you want to do something different with a special someone, think about doing Ziggy’s clinic. Whatever the reason you may have, do the clinic.

^^^ These clinics are the best value in shotgun shooting around...period!!!
After a few clinics, with Ziggy pulling, I was able to hit my first 25 straight. I think Don had a bigger smile on his face than I did...

Trapperjohn, I seem to be missing it. I can't find the date, but remember getting an e-mail that there was an August Clinic. Can you confirm, and provide the date?

Thanks
