Default out of state transfer of firearm to CA FFL

I bought a receiver from someone in CT, which is a private party..can he ship the receiver to my FFL here in CALIF or does he have to go thru his FFL then ship to my FFL...

He can ship the firearm to your FFL. He is not required to ship it from his FFL. He does not have to get the authorization letter (CFD) that FFL to FFL transfers are required to secure prior to shipment.
Your FFL needs to know he is receiving from a private party.

When I receive from a private party, I request a copy of their (sellers) state issued ID for my records only. Your FFL may or may not be comfortable receiving from a private party, so you may want to ask him/her.
