Default Shipping an old Revolver out of CA

How would I ship an old (1957) Ruger revolver to a ffl out of state(Tennessee)?
Do I need to have a ffl here do the shipping?

Thanks

Depends on if the FFL there will accept shipments from a private party. If he will you are good to go. However as a PP you will encounter some different rules at FedX and UPS (USPS is no go for PP pistol shipments). Those costs may make it cheaper to use an FFL who gets special pricing. Make sure you check the receiving FFLs # on the ATF website and only ship to the listed address. Include a copy of your DL so the FFL can enter your info in his book.

Another economical option if the receiving FFL will accept from private party is to see if they are listed on shipmygun.com

Didn't see him listed on shipmygun.. Person has a company doing custom pistol engraving, repairs etc..pretty well known.

I've sent a pistol to S&W for warranty repairs and they sent me a shipping label, fedex picked it up and dropped it off at my door?

Have you contacted your vendor on what he needs you to do? We can't answer that. We listed all the legal options, but it's going to be up to the vendor you are using on what they are willing to accept.

The bolded section - are you asking a question? That seems more like a statement.

Sorry for not being clear. Just find it strange that I can ship a gun across the country for repairs without issue in California, but selling one out of state I need to spend $100 or more to ship overnight.

The person-company was trading services for the revolver, no cash. I already killed the deal, not worth the trouble for this old man. I'll wait until we move to the ranch in Idaho to revisit the deal.
Thanks for the replies and information.

The only difference here is who is paying for the shipping. S&W probably has a corporate contract for reduced shipping cost.

Only licensees can ship handguns USPS. Policy, not law, requires overnight shipping for handguns with UPS/FedEx.

This means that it can often be cheaper to ship a handgun through a FFL depending on the FFL's fee.

I don't think that it is the receiver that matter with shipmygun, it is to find a local FFL who will accept the firearm for shipment.

FedEx has an updated policy that appears to accept ground.

You can ship long guns FedEx ground, but not handguns:

The link that you provided is FedEx FREIGHT, not Ground.

Interesting...since most Freight is ground I wonder why they allow it there and not their standard ground carriers.

Money.

UPS changed their policy just before they went public and I heard they did it to increase their income just before going public in order to get more money. FedEx followed suit.

Why do they allow contracts to allow for second day air and the rest can not? I heard it said that they have to have special security, but it is really bogus.
