Default Warning for Helmet Collectors Fake M2 Camos

This is possibly Champagne Rune 2.0. Except this time it involves the humping of US M2 Camo Helmets.

What is accoutments se tion? Not being the spelling police it is a legit question. Did you mean announcements? If Mods don't want it feel free to delete. Figured this was the C&R Section and some people maybe interested in a possible huge amount of fakery in something they may collect. I edited post to remove my opinion.

Thread linked doesn't seem to have anything to do with fake camo helmets

Geez, that was a lot of pages to scroll through. If this is real, that's absolutely terrible to destroy history, but it does happen. Creating fakes for profit out of priceless history is unethical for sure.

You didn't get far enough in. The fraud is exposed in starting with 2017 posts.

It seems very much real. The address is NYC for the Humper's business and residence is vacant and listed for rent. He is supposedly in Africa for a month.

My guess would be that he meant "accoutrements section".

That was my other guess but I thought this is the section for bayonets and other accessories.

Holy crap!

And a member that seemed to be respected on the forum.
The ebay listing was for $10k!

My advice for prospective helmet collectors is: DON'T START..

Unless you want to swim in an ocean of fakes, scams, misrepresentations, and junk before you find a legit one you can actually afford. And even then other elitist collectors will dismiss it as just another fake anyway.

Put your discretionary funds into something with a lot less risk, like junk bonds, green energy startups, or high stakes online gambling.

Effing brutal stuff.

You nailed it Bobby. I find the helmets interesting, and the threads mildly entertaining, but not a chance I am dropping 5-10 dimes on a Camo Helmet in the hopes it was painted in the early 1940s vs last week.

There are plenty of them out there but they are a lot easier to identify and a lot easier to keep track of thanks to the work of the guys at the K98kforum.com and ww2weaponsforum.com

They have been all over this scumbag who has been trying to sell his humped BNZ45 for months on gunbroker. Started at $2,100 then $1,450 now he is at $99 with reserve. Too bad when he bought it from a member at both of the above mentioned forums it was a mismatched barreled action.

I've been collecting helmets since the late 1970's.... If you think para M-1s are bad just take a look at German Camo lids, they are very expensive and often faked.

I wish it were not the case, but thank you. I have only just in the last 2 months acquired four legit German lids which passed muster with my fakey radar and discussions with credible collectors.

Nothing too exotic or expensive, but a SD Heer, a SD LW, A beaded Polizei, and a beaded (non Gladiator) Luftschutz.

Extra style points if you know what all that means. And no, I won't be posting any pictures either.

Dropping a hundred bucks on a helmet for display fine. Maybe a couple hundred for something special. $10k on a camo helmet no chance. You can't use it unless you are some sort of nutjob that walks around all day wearing a helmet. Then there is the possibility of one day finding out it is a fake. At least I can shoot my rifles and use my bayonets for multiple purposes.

Personally I see the prices of camo helmets plummeting. Right now the prices are kept propped up by current collectors trading amongst themselves. Once they die off the prices will drop, because if younger guys are smart they are not going to join the camo helmet fraternity.

for every firearm in my collection I have a helmet, bayonet, other militaria to go with it

to make a display of the gear used by that country, I dont collect uniforms, that takes up too much space, mostly helmets or bayonets

a luger & nazi helmet

M1911 goes with a Doughboy M1917 helmet

M1911A1 & M1917A1 , M1 helmet

I also have several IRAQI helmets

I can understand that, but your not buying $10K+ camo helmets I assume. I have the bayonet, sling, and muzzle cover for almost every rifle. JPS has an amazing collection of fully outfitted soldiers and I get that too. The huge money on camo painted helmets that may or may not be real I don't get.
