Default 1911 Build: Firing Pin

So my friend wants to build a 1911 and get it custom engraved. He finds a blank slide online ( https://www.nighthawkcustom.com/comm...cp-slide-blank ) but realizes the website says it uses a .38 Super firing pin. Keep in mind, its chambered for .45. He tries to contact that company to ask questions but, of course, no reply. He can't find anything online but learns that people sell .45 firing pins. So what gives?

Is the website wrong or does it matter what size the firing pin is. I would imagine it matters a great deal but we're both confused. If anyone will 1911 knowledge could chime in that would be swell.

plenty of choices available for 38 super firing pin for the 1911 such as this one:
https://www.brownells.com/handgun-pa...nt=791-104-038

Here you'll find a variety based on the firing pin hole size:
https://www.brownells.com/handgun-pa...%7cMake_3=1911

This page has firing pins from Nighthawk that include the 38 super variant:
https://www.brownells.com/handgun-pa...prod24567.aspx

You can use a 38 super firing pin for a .45 caliber 1911 as long as the diameter of the firing pin hole and length are appropriate...as they are in the options i've delineated. Hope this helps

The caliber does not actually matter as long as the dimensions of the firing pin fit the slide.

As you can see, the 38 firing pin is thinner.
This allows it to be used at higher pressures without the primer cratering.
It will work just fine with a lower pressure cartridge like the 45ACP as well.

So just order whatever style firing pin the manufacturer of the slide says to get.
