26 years ago, my friends and I went to a firefighter conference in Baltimore and came across a vendor booth in the expo hall, called Spyderco. They had several models on display including the Clipit Rescue for ~$40. A couple of us bought one and I carried it for 20 years until I moved out to CA. Now it sits in a drawer. Was advised not to carry a blade greater than 3" in length in LA.

Today, my Benchmade Mini Griptilian with a Damascus steel blade from a blade smith in ID. I also have a Benchmade 940 with the carbon fiber scales. I saw one at the LGS, had to have it, got it on Amazon for probably half price. That was a month ago. I've had knives before but never anything like these. I do like SOG for cheaper knives too. I'm sold on Benchmade now though.

My company has a policy that nobody shall have a folding knife with a blade larger than 3.3" which sucks because try cutting an avocado with a 3.anything inch blade.

So I had to stop carrying my Spyderco Police in with me and I have changed it out for a buchshot/buck mark whatever, with a 3.25" blade that looks like a cleaver with a money clip. But only at work. When I am not at work I have my Spyderco Police on me.

I'm rocking one of these bargain beauties.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/13-SURVIVOR-...cAAOSweW5VDFla

I bought a second, just in case they stop making them.

Awesome quality for $10, and very lightweight.

I'm allowed to carry a big knife at work.

Works great from everything from turning meat on the parking lot BBQ, to intimidating low lifes, to sawing sheetrock, or just pretty darn sharp table knife.

For $10 I'll be OK with totally abusing it if needed, and so far its past all torture tests.

Its lightness earns it a spot in the BOB or planned backpacking trip.

Gives me confidence you just don't get with a little folder when hiking in non-gun areas.

My only quibble is the so called "saw back" on top of blade. Its just semi-circles with more or less sharp tops straight across. Worked OK on sheetrock and makes good notches in wood but not much more.

But I'm planning on getting a LA Police Gear TBFK for $41 because its got the "world's best" blade steel.

I never got a Police. My buddy used to collect those. I do have the Ulize which is pretty closely related to the Police. I like the G10 on both sides and it still remains thin.

Ulize on top with some other Spydercos

Don't worry. There will always be plenty of cheapo $10 fixed blades out there.

Tha LAPG is interesting from them. You can get a S35VN blade from China, that's for sure. I have a Kizer that's S35VN and it is decent. The TBFK sounds like it has a weak detent, but so do Benchmade's when they try to do something that's not a AXIS lock.

So true. I call those wonder knives.

SOG Key knife little thing is sharp as heck & holds an edge for a surprisingly long time use it all the time for menial tasks at work -- but when i want something more substantial i go for my Smith & Wesson Border Guard thing is like a brick nearly indestructible & very useful!

Benchmade 581 Barrage with M390 serrated blade is with me roughly 350 days out of the year.

Otherwise it's a Benchmade 551 Griptilian 1-of-1000 with a serrated X15-TN blade or a Benchmade 583 Barrage with D2 Tanto blade.

I've got an old Buck folder that I like and some Kershaw and some vintage stuff from the early 1900s, but the Benchmades fit me well.

My edc is always an assisted opener for one handed operation in the event of an emergency as I provide medical support for over 300 athletes in any given season. But because 99.9% of the use is non medical related I have a cheap Big five special so in the event of loss or breakage I am not out a whole bunch. Still freaks people out when they see me open it one handed.
For non work days I have more to choose from than I care to count. I am sort of sucker for a good knife buy.

I carry a Kershaw Blur "Snap-On" edition. haha. Bought a decade ago from the toy truck while i was working at a shop.
I was carrying a Kershaw Clash (~$27 on amazon) while my Blur was misplaced.

Tan Benchmade Griptillian, half serrated blade. Goes with me just about everywhere and gets used everyday throughout the day. This current one is only 3 years old. The last one lasted me 4 years until it was lost/stolen.

I EDC my kershaw cryo because it's cheap and I won't be upset if I lost it. My Spyderco's, benchmades, ZT's, customs are at home where its safe!
