Good stuff Ronin. Some of us participated in the inaugural Phantom Strike (rifle match) last month. The match was held at Raahauge's and I believe the 4th Sunday of each month will be when the match will be held going forward.

All this is dependent on GunFu's confirmation. He has the last word on this....speaking of PHANTOM STRIKE, haven't seen an update regarding the next match.

PS - let me know if you or folks care about sporting clay matches/shoots.

I only want to post REGULARLY SCHEDULED matches that have a set day of the month and location. I will post a "phantom Strike" web site under clubs and organizations if you give me one...

I am trying to focus on the handgun/3 gun/ IDPA/IPSC/USPSA type shooting at this point as I am not a shotgunner or highpower guy. Since you suggested it..hehe Why not do a similar thread for shotgun related matches...

Cheers!

This looks great, thanks for doing this!
If you're willing, could you keep this thread going on a monthly basis with the dates populated? Here's an example from the PF forums:

You're missing the Piru matches.

2nd Saturday
Deadwood Action Pistol Steel plate match (Best plate match in So Cal)

3rd Saturday
ZEV Speed Gun Match

3rd Sunday
x3 multigun

4th Saturday
Deadwood Action Pistol Steel plate match (Best plate match in So Cal)

5th Saturday
Deadwood Shotgun match

There are also a bunch of idpa matches, revolver matches, 22 rimfire matches and steel challenge at Piru but I'll let someone fill those in as I don't shoot those matches enough to remember what weekend they fall on.

So you'll list 3 gun matches but not shotgun. We are not talking sporting clays, we are talking run and gun stages w/ shotgun.

I assume that you are posting this info to help other shooters to decide when and where action shooting is taking place. So why would you NOT include shotgun only matches? Remember, the shotgun is 1/3 of a 3gun match. You may not be a shot gunner, but there a plenty of use that are.

Thanks for posting the info

Ronin-

The first Saturday match at Lemon Grove Rod & Gun is an ICORE match, not IDPA. We do allow bottom feeders to play, and they have their own divisions. It is shot and scored on ICORE Targets using ICORE rules. It is our entry level match as far as how complicated the stages are, but it is also the most technically challenging as there are usually 35 yard shots, and often shots to 50 yards.

My bad! Error noted and corrected. I put this all together once before and the thread was deleted by moderators after it was thread jacked and reduced to a chest beating contest by some gamers. That pissed me off so I attempted to redo it in a hurry and it was like being back in the military with all the acronyms becoming overwhelming...lol.

Thanks for the correction! Thanks to your club and all the clubs listed and their volunteers who put on these matches for the shooting public to enjoy.

I can't disagree with your points, however, I am focused on matches designed around the handgun or have the handgun as a major component, hense my exclusion of shotgun only or high power only matches.

I hve never been to a "shotgun only match" and the only high power matches I have shot were the ones to get my DCM M1 Garand twenty years ago.

I am hoping someone who has expertise in these match styles will step up. Please PM or post the info in similrar format on action shotgun / rifle only matches and I will modify my listing accordingly.

Cheers.

Thread updated. Thanks for the information.

ANYONE who shoots "rimfire" , "high power" or "Shotgun" want to start a similar thread? I dont shoot those matches, I have no idea when and where they take place like someone who shoots them would and to be honest, I am doing this project for myself as much as anyone and I have no interest in those matches. Lastly, adding all those events would overwhelm this report anyway.

You already listed the ZEV Speedgun matches at ISI but there are the IDPA & Compact & Revolver (Shot like IDPA) matches there as well.

Hole in the Wall at Piru, across from the Deadwood plate match, has a Wild Bunch Match, the first Saturday of every month.

It's a 1911 pistol match, which also employs a lever action rifle and 1897 or Model 12 pump shotgun. Lead ammo only...

Thank you for a great resource, and thanks for the bump.

I am looking to start getting involved in shooting matches. I started shooting just a year ago, and I think it's time to move beyond making holes into paper target at a static indoor range. After reading up a bunch, I've just acquired a minimum equipment for IDPA to get started.

Do you have any recommendation as to the best place to start for a beginner? I've gone through all the links posted in this thread, and I am thinking Piru on the 4 Sat of January. Prado and WEGC are also doable for me, although I don't mind driving further if required. I am in Glendale, CA

Thank you much

Thank you much
Actually the closest to you is in Saugus, Americana 1800

and West End is actually not an IDPA club

One advantage to Piru is they run all day long, so no need to get there at 8am if you don't want to. All other clubs have fixed start times. If you shoot Prado be prepared to be there until 2:30pm as they get alot of shooters. No matter where you choose to start be sure to tell the match director you are brand new to competition so they can squad you up with some experienced shooters.

Hook up with this guy for Piru.

Awesome. I will get in touch with Nathan. I looked at the Americana program too. For 2014, they require new shooters to have attended a new shooters' clinic, which Piru offers. So I'll just start there. Thanks HighLander51.

Ronin2, sorry for the thread highjack!

3rd Sunday is X3 Multigun not 3X Multigun

You need to post the X3 Shotgun match at Deadwood Boys in Piru on the 5th Saturday as Yar suggested. It is an action shooting match, and therefore must be on this list.

Likewise you need to include the Phantom Strike rifle match at Norco on the 3rd Sunday. It is also an action shooting match. It needs to be included in your list.

If you want your list to be handgun only, then do that. but if youre going to include 3Gun/Multigun matches, you have to include the practice matches for shotgun and rifle. Those of us that compete 3Gun/Multigun shoot them all.

+100, considering how often this question comes up in other parts of the board. Remove inactive/old stickies too.

FYI

SSA SCHEDULE CHANGES!

Dear friends,

Please note that the SSA match schedule has changed to the 1st, 2nd, and 5th Sundays of the month.

Also the USPSA match @ Prado Shooting Park is on the first Sunday only now.

Jerry

FYI, the Deadwood Boys Action Shotgun match is on the 5th Sunday, not 5th Saturday.

And that is why its best for me to have listed only the matches I knew of at ranges I could confirm. "BobbyHated" in post #33 told me it was Saturday.

Prc77 was all bent that I was not listing the "shotgun only" matches or in fact any other matches that he liked.

I keep forgetting...no good deed goes unpunished....
