any finer points of extreme hot weather gear from Arabs?
I've got a mess of various mil-spec and other outdoor fabric, HD sewing machine, lots of fabric glue and velcro.
I'm wanting to invent a few mods for extreme hot weather gear, so I'm wondering if anyone has any wisdom from observing Arab style hot weather protection. Either traditional or "what they have gone to with newer materials". Got to be more to it than just "more clothes actually keeps you cooler". Any tips like you might get from the Freemen of plant Dune? For starters I'm gonna run foam 3/4" backer rod tubes through the loops of a standard boonie hat, then cover it all with 1.6oz ripstop that hangs down to shoulders on back and sides, to create an air gap between what the sun hits and your skin, still with lots of airflow. |

Use black fabric like the Bedouins. It absorbs the light instead of reflecting it back to your skin, so it reduces the skin temperature...has to be loose fitting those to allow for airflow. A white outer layer and a dark inner layer should be even more effective.

this says the black OUTER layer heats up to create upward draft. https://www.physicsforums.com/thread...k-robes.65287/ yeah, you can do a lot with simple drawing up of cooler air from below. my old 1950 build one story had no AC but original heater with "cool" setting and if you kept all the old single pane windows shut and ran the "cool" fan 24/7 the house would stay cool on hottest days and no big power bills. |
