What .22 LR To Replace Zapper
I am nearing the bottom of my stash of .22LR Zapper made by PMC which is no longer available. It is 40 grain copper plated and shoots at 1255 fps at the muzzle. I get tight groups with my 10/22.
What .22LR will you recommend as replacement? I have looked at Aguilla with similar weight and velocity. What other 22 ammo do you shoot and are happy with? Thanks everyone in advance for sharing your experience. |

you might try rimfire central. they have an entire section on 10/22's and ammo
as well.

I've enjoyed CCI Blazer 22 long rifle. It seems accurate and I've never had a failure to fire or a hang fire which is something I can't say about a lot of old school brands 22 , especially back when I was a kid.
It's 40 grain lead nose bullet , doesn't have a copper wash jacket like some 22 ammo but it is traveling at 1235 FPS according to their literature. And CCI makes a whole line 22 brand levels all the way up to their top of the line, their 22 "stinger" with its lightweight bullet and higher velocity. If you're looking for the very best accuracy of course it's probably best to grab a bunch of different brands and try them all out in your rifle. |

Zapper was a really good, accurate brand, neve understood why it stopped manufacture.
In my experience, Remington .22 ammo is amongst the worst, especially for reliability. Winchester is a mere single rung above that IMO. Aguila, CCI, Federal are all top notch if you buy middle of the road at minimum. I would stay away from some of the lower priced brands simply because they usually burn very dirty. I personally use Aguila Blue Label Box (there is a red label as well) Federal Gold and CCI Standard velocity in my revolvers and semi automatic handguns. Haven't had much experience with rifles in ten or more years. |

My 10/22 has had some of its best groups with Remington Yellowjacket. Weird I know. But it loves that stuff.
Other than that, just regular federal copper plated 22 works great. I’ve had best luck overall with federal. 10/22’s aren’t really ammo sensitive. Don’t put too much thought into what you feed through it. Other than junky lead crap like Remington thunderbolt.

The only thing my 10/22 dislikes are the red/white/how PC from CCI, like the leadis too soft, so it mushes when feeding, but they work fine in my MKIII the lady's 22/45 as I recall.

I just shoot the CCI red, white, and blue Patriot ammo out of my 10/22 now, but it did fine with Federal Automatch and the Federal red bulk pack 38 grain stuff as well.
The Aguila 40 grain Super Extra works great in my Nylon 66 but I haven't tried it in the 10/22.

^^^^^This^^^^^^ Try the Aguila 40 grain super Extra @ 1255 FPS. I believe it is the same ammo as the PMC Zapper.
