Default Fixed vs. Variable Power

I've been going back and forth on which scope to get for my AR build. It's a varmint 16" bull barrel build and I'm not going for any long distance (past maybe 200yards) shots. I'm debating between a 3-9x42 or a fixed 4x32. Any thoughts? Only $40 difference in scope prices so money's not a concern.

I always pick variable, sometimes you want more magnification and with a variable you get it. With a 16" bull barrel you're not worried about a couple of ounces of scope weight and the recoil of the 223 sure isn't going to put any strain on the scope and with the reliability of modern scopes I don't worry about them.

I'm considering getting a fixed power scope too. I will be using it mostly for target shooting from 100 to 300 yards. It will go on AR15 and Remington 700 P.

Since looking the best scope for the money, that I've been able to find is the 10x37 US Optics scope.

A number of the people who target shoot at my gun club have these variable power scopes but they alway have them at the high magnification anyways. So I figure I can get a really nice fixed power scope for much much less than a comparable quality variable.
