I was happy to see a guy in a truck loading his bed up with a bunch of trash, as we loaded up our 2 trucks also. We always take out more than what we bring. A little help goes a long way. Its pretty sad seeing such a good shooting area getting trashed. Pick up yours and then some and lecture those little hoodlums if you see them leaving crap.
OP, I think it's about time to change the title as it is no longer a shooting area.

More like it is time to delete all threads that talk about any local shooting area because forums like this and others are spreading the word too quickly!

Drove up by the entrance this morning and saw the gate open and lots of people shooting. The gate was not unlocked though, the lock was still locked on the chain and the chain had been cut. I found the cut link on the ground right next to the gate.

That's funny as hell!!! Probably the same type of people who trashed the place to begin with --- No respect for anything -- laws, or locked gates!

Sounds like RCSO/BLM is going to have to start writing expensive tickets, or arresting fools soon!

Sounds like the plan is taking shape and working.

When I spoke with Aaron (BLM ranger) last month he said they would warn people and just ask them to leave, but that eventually citations would be handed out.

Signs have been posted for a month now. Word has gotten out and rangers have personally informed people.

Apparently a locked gate has been installed.

Someone had the bright idea to cut the lock and trespass already?

I'd say those citations will be along shortly.

Good.

Yeah, and so long to the area still being open to off-roading and/or hunting with a locked gate and soon to be installed fence!

SO MUCH FOR OUR PUBLIC USAGE OF FEDERAL BLM LANDS!!!

It seems like I've been run off of "public lands" from much of SoCal going back to the 70's when the Sierra Club was suing to keep off roaders from encroaching on desert habitats of tortoises and various "endangered" wildlife.

Irresponsible shooters trashing public lands, trespassing and vandalizing have been kicking me out of shooting spots for the last twenty years now.

Some argue that irresponsible shooters leaving trash and trespassing is only a small part of the problem, but the fact is that places have been closed because of it. BLM has also threatened closing areas because of the high volume of trash left in areas.

Then there are those who say other people besides shooters dump there also, and that is what closes spots down. I say BS to that, as this is what kind of trash is usually found; targets, old shot up furniture and appliances, spent cases, ammo boxes, etc.

(No, those aren't my targets and trash, that's how I found the spot when I pulled up.)

Yeah, I specifically asked a ranger if motorcycles were still allowed to cruise around, and he said yes. And now we see them building a fence. They're coming for one hobby at a time to take our freedom away easier. I still think we should protest and give them a hard time. Or if they take one spot away, they have to declare another spot for shooting.

Don't get me wrong, I appreciate your zeal in wanting to fight this.

Problem is, the BLM's hands are tied. All of SP is within one linear mile of the Lake Elsinore city limit, and Ord. 514 is explicit in conveying that discharging of firearms is prohibited within one mile of any city boundary in Western Riverside County.

Find additional BLM land as an alternative location to shoot? This is also a problem. BLM specifies that if its public land is surrounded by private property, an individual must be granted permission to cross said private property by its owner. Don't get permission and get fingered by someone, RCSD will cite for trespassing and Ord. 514 violation if circumstances allow.

The fact is, BLM land is scarce in western Riv. Co., and is often an island surrounded by private property. SP's saving grace was that a road literally led you right to its front entrance. I honestly don't even know if it is a county maintained road or a private road.

Yarjarar, just take your KTM and your guns and head out to the desert. Yeah, it's farther and more inconvenient, but there's a lot more freedom and less idiots.

Fence is done. Heavy duty steel cable is up between all the posts and the gate has been repaired. A BLM ranger and what appeared to be a DFG warden were sitting in their trucks at the top of the hill, out of view from the entrance, when I was there yesterday morning about 1130. Photos of the fence attached.

Now that there is no shooting, off-roading, etc... I wonder who's going to clean up the place. BLM doesn't have the manpower or money for that!

I wonder if funding came from the City of Lake Elsinore in exchange for enforcing county ordinances? The old "You scratch my back, and I'll scratch yours".

Went by today.

Shiny new steel post and cable fence, gate open, dubious signage.

No shooting heard from the road.

Called PS-BLM office and was told it was closed due to County Ordinance 514, and that they were obligated to comply.

What a bunch of bull-sh*t.
