Default Appleseed and AB 1511

Taken from Appleseed event calendar:

NO "LOANER" Rifles available!
Due to the recent passage of California Assembly Bill 1511, we will no longer be able to lend rifles to attendees in the state of California.
AB1511 bans loaning of all firearms, unless "to a spouse or registered domestic partner, or to a parent, child, sibling, grandparent, or grandchild".

Yet that seems to be a too narrow reading of the law. My understanding is "...if present..." one may loan rifle(s) to non-family for the event.

EDIT in underline

It's been discussed here and at the RWVA. Bottom line is there probably is a way to do it properly but the law is also sufficiently messy that it could almost be considered a trap.

The CRPA put out a very useful webinar on the topic. There's ongoing discussion in the RWVA over how we can legally protect ourselves and our students. Until then, however, the word is "No Loaners."

Glass is half full, maybe this will spur more people to buy their own rifles! You can get a .22 for under $200. You all know you want another one.

Not sure why you're asking in this thread, but... it doesn't.

Having said that, .22 LR is more economical for most people, some ranges can't tolerate higher calibers, and frankly a lot of beginners will develop flinches if they go straight to centerfire. Rimfire is a completely valid training approach.
