Default Ammo Bros for PPT

Did a PPT at the Ammo Bros in Santa Ana last weekend. It took like 15 minutes tops. Very quick, polite and efficient. I was quite pleased and decided to stay and shop, spent $250 on an archangel stock for my M1A. Thanks for the great experience Ammo Bros!

Thank you for the kind words. It has always been my goal for our company to treat our PPT customers the same as a customer buying a gun from us. That business is just as important to us and helps our customers follow the laws. Before I worked for this company I always hated being treated as less of a customer due to me wanting to do a PPT.

For those that don't know, our gun counters have a waiting list (if busy and necessary). Once your name is on that list, we call you in order and will service your need regardless of what it is. We do not have a separate waiting list for PPTs and transfers that we service after other customers as some of our competitors do.

I think took less than 10 minutes total. Try that at a Turners. At my last Ammo Bros PPT my seller and his friend spent over $2000 after we were done with the PPT and they live nowhere near an Ammo Bros.

I've bought guns and stuff here and there and try to not slam Ammo Brothers with too many PPT's I spread them out and I try to come do thwm and do pick up at off peak times.

I'd buy much more at Ammo Brothers if they stocked more used and consignment guns. Also Ammo Bros, have another one of those warehouse sales like you did at Ontario I spent like $1300 and didn't even buy any guns or ammo! I also miss the junk and ammo bins Cerritos used to have.

I felt bad I haven't bought anything in a while from Ammo Brothers so I spent about $600 there today. Really though they need a separate employee to help those only wanting to buy ammo or parts or something. I'll start a separate thread on that eventually.

I did one yesterday at the OC Fair Gunshow at Ammo Bros. Not only were the polite and professional even with all the people there waiting in line, they took care of us in order and we were treated no different than any other customer. AAA+++ for customer service!

I tried to do a PPT at Turners today and the manager told me there was a two hour wait because they only had one guy (him) doing transfers. The placed was packed 3 deep at the counter. I asked if I could reserve a time, eat some lunch and return promptly. He said we would have to physically wait or lose our place in line. I thanked him for his time and then headed to Ammo Bros in Cerritos with my buyer. I had not visited Ammo Bros for close to a year because of poor customer service. Wow, how things have changed! The whole experience was great.

We signed in and were attended to in approximately 20 minutes. I like their first-come first-serve policy. The customer service was great, Phil was easy to talk to and answered all our questions. Ammo Bros now rivals the professionalism of Riflegear, but with lots of roaming room so someone doesn't feel confined. I'm already planning to go back for future firearm, ammo, and gear needs.

Another true statement. I have done a couple at the show and they have been good about it and they have a couple of pretty blondes doing the paperwork I haven't had any major issues yet from Ammo Brothers. I do try to not slam them though with PPT so I do use other FFL's at show too a couple I know will generally do them.

When Riflegear was still doing gun shows they told a friend of mine they don't do PPT at show. He called for a DOJ opinion about it and they said if an FFL is doing DROSes at show they are required to do PPT as well.

Another one for Ammo Brothers. I drove from San Diego to Santa Ana to do a PPT. It was quite a haul but I would do it again. Staff were courteous and professional. Wait time was very short and transaction time took 10 minutes, 15 minutes top. I haven't been to the San Diego store yet but I will make a visit in the very near future.

Ammo Bros is good people. I used to live in Downey and have done countless PPT's at the Cerritos store as well as purchased more than a few new firearms from them as well. Always good service. I moved to the IE ~1 year ago. Just put a Beretta 85 on layaway at their Riverside store. Same great service.

I notice you live in Highgrove. I'd also gladly drive to Riverside or Ontario Ammo Brothers than deal with the attitude and nonsense at Warrior 1 in your neighborhood.

I'm in the IE a lot and I have happily for a few years now driven by W1 while spending literally many thousands of dollars with their local competitors including Ammo Bros. I may stop by Ontario AB tomorrow.

Thumbs down

After being a loyal patron of Ammo Bros for 10 years. When they opened the door on their first shop. Other end of same bldg in Cerritos on Piuma from where they are now. Spending an approx $1k a year in their establishment.

The LAST time I was in their store, Sept First of 2015. To do a PU on a PPT.

Will continue to be the LAST time I ever cross their threshold.

They probably made a paltry $2 on the cheap chinese POS lock with their name on the packaging. Hope it was worth it to them.

Refusing to allow me to file a "Safe Affidavit". Denying me my RIGHT as a Ca citizen to exercise my "exempt" status as an approved "safe" owner. Then repeatedly lying about the true reason for their denial of my right.

Old Guy and Big Guy, Eddie & Mark, IIRC were their names, dealt with them many times in past. Were actually acting embarrassed by this "NEW" extralegal policy. Which was not in effect during the previous 3 PPTs there within a year.

After politely asking to speak to the manager "Marcus", and requesting that he check the actual Ca PC and ATF regs, which I provided him the numbers to.

He rudely and loudly informed me that "I DON'T GET PAID TO READ". "I GET PAID TO ENFORCE POLICY". "DROS says [FSD Purchased] So you have to buy one". Then accused "ME" of trying to get him, to do something illegal that would cause loss of license. While ignorantly rambling nonsense about ATF requiring a Ca Approved lock with all handgun transfers.

Yeah Right. First deny a customer their legal rights, then lie to the customer. Then blame them to project your lie onto them.

I realize that PPT, $10 fee is a loser for FFLs. Knowing this, without fail, I've always made purchases of unneeded ammo or accessories, when doing a PU on PPT. So the paltry $6.53 spent on the useless, unneeded, or even required POC lock with their name on it, isn't the issue. It is the lack of integrity and blatant lying to long time customers to bump the bottom line by a couple bucks that thoroughly pisses me off.

If anyone at Ammo Bros, chooses. They can search my user name and "Ammo Bros". Not only will I not patronize AB, I never miss a chance to make it clear that others shouldn't either.

did you bring any handgun lock with you (or was one included by the seller)? If not, I don't see what AB did wrong. federal law requires that a handgun lock or safe be provided as part of the transfer. your safe at home is not a safe provided at the time of transfer.

(z) Secure Gun Storage or Safety Device.—
(1)In general.—
Except as provided under paragraph (2), it shall be unlawful for any licensed importer, licensed manufacturer, or licensed dealer to sell, deliver, or transfer any handgun to any person other than any person licensed under this chapter, unless the transferee is provided with a secure gun storage or safety device (as defined in section 921(a)(34)) for that handgun.

filling out a CA safe affidavit does not "provide the transferee with secure gun storage for that handgun"

Yes sir, there was a Ca-DOJ approved lock in the clamshell with the pistol, at the time DROS was started. {even though Ca-DOJ approval is not a requirement to meet Fed CSLA of 2005}.

Ammo Bros refused to allow me to file a "Safe Affidavit". Denying me my legal "Ca-DOJ FSD exempt status as a safe owner for ALL firearms transfers. Even though I had done exactly that 3 times in the previous year at that store.

But that was before they got in their brand new fresh off the boat from China, cheap crappy locks with their name on them.

Pacrat posts this in every Ammo Brothers thread he has a serious axe to grind. I can see his anguish and frustration I've been known to hold a grudge too but I can guarantee Ammo Bros is doing just fine without you and isn't hurt by your little tirades whatsoever.

Do you actually spend time every day looking for Ammo Brothers related posts to continue to post about your incident? I think I've probably read it like 50x or more.

I just realized you spent a whole $1000 a year in that store though.

Considering that this thread has been running for 20 days before I found it and posted. I would say not.

I told Marcus that if he insisted on denying me the right to file a Safe Affidavit and exercise my exempt status. That I would bad mouth him and Ammo Bros on every gun forum I'm a member of, and specifically mentioned CalGuns.

I've kept my word. I don't think it is quite 50x yet. But I'll get there.

I've had good experiences at AB, got 3 PPT's done this year.
I have had to buy two cheapo CADOJ approved locks, both at Turners (yeah, I know). While that irked me (when I have a nice safe at home), 7$ wouldn't rain on my parade. But that's just me.
Thanks Ammo Bros!

Just like @ Turners, I have had only very positive experiences @ Ammo Bros. On at least 2 occasions, while doing a PPT At Ammo Bros, I saw a gun I liked, and ended up spending some extra $$ there. Good peeps there.

I've had good experiences there too. However, I uneed stand and agree with the issue pacrat raises. Just think I must have done two or three PPT in Santa Ana, all without hiccup and pretty fast too. Then all of a sudden on a following PPT, I was told I had to buy some crappy lock even though the handgun I was purchasing came with the original manufacturer lock, (with logo).

Yes, I too felt it was a BS call but I want3d the handgun more than just wanted to take a stand and from that point forwad, I choose to do PPT at other places as a result.

I will say in AB defense, that I don't think they are trying to pull a fast one. Other places don't require the purchase of a lock as well as offer safe affidavit.I just think they playing it on the safe side and error on the side of caution and insisting the lock accompany the transaction.

I still shop there for other things.

Done a few PPTs at various Ammo Brothers and Turners (each) locations. While my personal experience with Ammo Brothers was that it seemed to take entirely too long (1.5+ hours after our number was called) for a simple PPT, at least the staff was relatively knowledgeable and courteous. I can't say the same for my multiple Turners experiences. I understand experiences vary, but waiting 2-3 hours to do a PPT after your number is called is ridiculous, being talked down to is inappropriate, being ignored is insulting...pretty much the only time I've dealt with these issues is when Turners is involved. I MUCH prefer to handle my PPTs with smaller FFLs and in an effort to show them I appreciate their efficiency, buy a hat, a shirt, a few magazines, whatever. 2A Zone is my personal favorite in my area, but I can't say anything bad about (as far as PPTs go) Warrior One, Bullseye, Annie's Get Your Gun, Alamo Pawn, just to name a few. Unless it's an amazing deal and the seller is hell bent on using Turners, I will never do another PPT there. Just my humble opinion from personal experience.

I'm actually heading to Ammo Bros in Ontario at 10:00 this morning to do another PPT. I'll be buying another new gun from them as well this morning. Thanks, Ammo Bros!

Did a PPT at Ammo Brothers a few weeks ago. Took over 1.25 hours to complete.

Did one at Warrior One in Riverside the same day...and it took less than 15 minutes.

Both of the stores were empty.

res ipsa loquitur (Latin for "the thing speaks for itself")

I'm sure there is more to this story. Did you go at a prime time? Was W1 empty? I'd expect that place has been a ghost town.

I've done a ppt at AB in Cerritos and will say it took longer than normal. Not talking wait time, but the time it takes to fill out all the forms, then have the employee input all the info you put on the form into the computer, have their "second eyes" look over everything, and then wait at the register to pay. It did take close to an hour and it could have been done much quicker.
Everyone was nice and friendly, but I've been to other places where they input everything and we only had to write our signatures and we're done in 10 minutes.

done a few PPT at Ammobros in Cerritos. fast and efficient so don't mind the 30 min drive to get here.

Staff always friendly and knows what they are doing. usually done in 30 mins or less depending on how many people waiting at cashier (only have 1)

Just did a PPT March 9th and it was fantastic. They were all helpful and made me feel at ease, not like other places (i wont mention) where they make you feel as if you dont know anything and pretty much talk down to you instead of helping you to understand which would help gain customers business. Instead AB was very helpful and also the process took 5 mins.

Also after reading this thread, i dont feel that AB is making you buy their lock to make $7 measly dollars. That would just be a dumb business model but instead, again from reading here, theyre looking out for themselves. Seems like people that experienced a positive PPT end up spending much more which is what a business owner would want.

EDIT: forgot to mention, my PPT was done is Santa Ana.

Did a PPT today, less than 20 minutes at Cerritos.

Staff was professional and friendly.

Got some ammo too.

Thanks.
