Angry 2018 CFD Renewal woes

Hey guys

Went to log on to DES last night and was locked out. A quick call to the DES helpline and they determined that our CFD renewal hadn't been paid for 2018. In talking to the DES support, they said this was a big problem and that they were dealing with many other dealers with the same issues. It seemed that a lot of dealers around the state weren't sent their renewal in November (us included) and now we have to snail mail a check and it could take a week to get it turned back on..

I can without a doubt say we didn't receive our renewal letter.. Is anyone else dealing with this issue?

I am in the same boat. When I receive things from DOJ I take action on them immediately. I find it absolutely astonishing that the DOJ is incapable of accepting a credit card payment over the phone. There are no words that can express how infuriated I am right now. No second notice, no final notice, no phone call, no email, no nothing, just shut down for a lousy $115. I can't help but wonder if there might have been some subversive action taken by an individual at DOJ? How hard would it be to dump a flat of renewal notices in the garbage? I am hoping we can compile a list of zip codes of dealers affected and see if there is a pattern that would show a particular region did not receive notices?

Is there anyone with pull at DOJ that can help us? It is so unreasonable of DOJ to simply shut us down without notice.

Since there are issues with multiple businesses, they could be reasonable and extend it. They could even allow renewal and payment through the DES. The fact that they don't should tell you something.

We know ours is set to expire and start looking for it 2 months out and start pestering if we don't get it. I know round bout 2015 or so we didn't get ours in the mail until 14 days before it expired. Fortunately we overnighted their check and they processed it.

Some more genius thinking by DOJ...

I haven't paid my DROS fees yet this month and since they have cut of my access to DES, I have no way to pay them. They'll give me 30 days to pay them $2K in DROS fees, but will cut me off of everything because of $115.

SMH...

Well, DOJ received my check at 6AM this morning and did not process it today. I am livid.

My sales rep at Davidsons told me they have several other dealer in the same situation.

But of course, DOJ doesn't make mistakes.....

How hard would it be to renew it online? I mean we already have to do the BS COE thing every year. So why cant we do use the CFARS to pay our damn CFD fees?

They received our check at 6:05 this morning and we still can't get logged on.. We have never been late on ANYTHING with them. This is utter bull****!

I asked the licensing division yesterday why they don't take credit card payments for this like they do for everything else? their response... "things just don't happen overnight". I also told them I'd drive the payment up and she said "we don't work like that"..

With the list of pissed off customers growing, we wait..

The fact is that they, so far, can get away with it. Unless they get hit with a class action lawsuit, why should they change? Who are you going to complain to?

BTW: sort of related to this...my wife got her renewal letter for COE letting her know she can do online. I did NOT get my renewal letter/reminder. After realizing it's done through CFARS I did my renewal.. however, we're still wondering why she got a notice and I did not.. For the past 9 years we both got our letters on the same day...not this year...

Don't you guys get notified of this when you do an FSC card? When time was winding down on my COE, the reminder showed up after i logged into the FSC system. Just like DROS when a payment is due.

maybe as the date gets closer... i didn't get any notice within FSC system yet (maybe I did last year) ..

some folks with COE don't issue FSCs often...my wife issues way more of them than I do...sometimes my passwords expires by the time I log in next..

For anyone that cares, the DOJ finally turned me back on Thursday shortly after noon, 30 hours after receiving my check. I had checked a half hour earlier and was still down. I called and left a message begging an pleading that they turn my access on. Don't know if that helped, but I was up and running a half hour later.

It might have gone a little deeper than that... I picked up a rifle out of state and when the FFL1 applied for their CFLC OK they were informed that my ship to dealer came back 'do not ship'... Took a couple of days before they finally got the the OK.... My FFL1 wasn't late on any renewals....

At least that is what they said. If they didn't get the CFD renewal and didn't renew or renewed late, they could have had an issue. The CA DOJ does not seem to process the renewal asap.

This issue also delayed CFLC approvals. I had about ten guns backed up at Davidsons waiting to ship...
