Default Antique Gunsmith North County SD

Looking for a gunsmith in the North County San Diego area that feels confident with working on an antique Double Barrel Side-by-side. Already tried Iron Sights, he did not feel confident working on the weapon. Will be willing to drive a decent distance.

Don't know make or age of the firearm. It has hand etched "Made In Belgium" and the serial number. Modern Barrels (Not Damascus).

Occasionally the barrels unlock after firing. So unfortunately she's little more than a wall hanger as of now.

You can give Duncan's Gunworks in San Marcos a try. I've heard mostly good things about their smith. The only bad thing I've heard is turn around time. I've personally never had the need for their services so I can't endorse one way or another.

Good luck. I took the pistol that is my avatar to Duncan's in San Marcos to have the smith look it over, etc. I wasn't to impressed but maybe he knows more about shotguns than Remington Rider pistols.

That was a couple of years ago so there may be a new guy by now, but you can call.

Respectfully

Kyle

Give the Shootist a call in murrieta. Their gunsmith told me hes very comfortable working on old firearms. I have a few Im going to have him checkout. Reasonable price and turnaround when he helped on my xdm

I know my way around the innards of SXS shotguns and rifles. Rebuilt a few too.

I'm not cheep but I know what i'm doing and probably the only guy in San Diego that can put a shot gun back on face and make V springs too.

The 'smith at The Shootist is terrible. I took a Marlin 81 rifle in to have a cartridge guide replaced, it involved separating the barrel and receiver. When I got it back, the receiver was installed rotated a spline off from where it should have been, the trigger was at 7 o'clock. I broke it down and fixed it myself.
Another time, I took a S&W revolver in, because he's supposed to be good on them. I wanted a detent ball installed in the crane, he said no problem. I have Armory training on them but did not have the tooling to do it. When I went to pick it up, he tried to charge me $125 for the job. I asked why so high, explaining the usual going rate for that was around $60-70. He finally admitted that he had sent the gun to Bolsa Gunsmithing to have them do it. He also relented on the exorbitant price as well. Take your chances if you wish.

If kcstott says he can do it, then you can count on him to do it well.

His cut and weld on my SS slide was phenomenal work.
