Can't really tell from the pic but it looks like you created a thumbhole stock which makes your gun illegal.

If that is the case I will shorten the bottom buffer so you can see a gap between the bottom of butt stock and bottom buffer tube... but that would be one big thumbhole as you describe it... is there a distinct definition of thumbhole??

Anything that you can get your thumb though or I even think into.
You could also cut the end plate piece into two if they will stay oriented correctly.

I like where you were going OP< but yes +4 on the thumb stock.
Its like a Hera without the insert.

May loose the support to the robber but pad. Maybe try one of those solid end cap type stocks

All the + and +1 etc is just people agreeing that it is/was a thumb hole stock before you decided to shorten the lower tube

Literally.

This is not legal advise from anyone here, simply based on the information we have gained and have been allowed from the State thus far.

As long as there are two pieces that are not touching, like in your second pic, I'd say you're GTG. Reminds me of when folks were gearing up to defend the U-15 in court, they even had a topographical expert lined up to define what a hole is. There's a joke in there somewhere re: our legislators and a hole in the ground.

Your muzzle break also looks like a flash hider. The hole at the tip needs to be the same size as the barrel. Cant tell from the side.

That's a popular theory, but that's all it is. There is no written definition that mandates that, just opinions.

Looks good, I would re-consider your muzzle device as it is too close to a flash hider. In order for a rifle to be considered featureless, it must not have flash hider, forward pistol grip, a pistol grip, or an adjustable stock if it is not under law considered a fixed magazine.

Here is my rifle that has all but a forward grip as I am really not a fan(maybe I should add one just to show how dumb anti gunners are)

I am just not a featureless ar-15 kind of guy...

The brake is fine. That is a YHM muzzle brake with glass breaker tangs, the opening is bore diameter, I have one.

I just think if it looks like a duck, it must be a duck. Are we to believe there are no ignorant anti gun officers looking to enforce these dumb laws? Just seems like it will be a major inconvenience and a way to have your rifle seized.

And a semi auto selector switch looks just like a burst selector switch. What matters is the function is illegal or not.

They aren’t going to test fire the weapon and measure the flash to decide in the field. What will determine if your firearm is seized or not is your interaction with LE and whether it appears there is additional reason to arrest or confiscate.

Lol, are you kidding me? This is the dumbest thing I have ever heard. I feel dumber having just read that.

Like said, if you have what looks like a flash hider, and your rifle is not fixed magazine... There will be some dumbass anti gun cop who you are going to have to explain, "No officer, it only looks like a flash hider, but it's actually a compensator..." Then, you will fin yourself in the courtroom of a liberal judge and you will once again have to explain to them the same...

Do you want to explain to all of us exactly what a flash hider “looks like” since it seems so clear in your mind? Try referencing the law while you do.

Edit: I’ll jump to the point... your response about “dumb *** cop” is just as uninformed as the hypothetical officer you reference. If you cannot inform them specifically about the legality of your firearm and why it is so then you shouldn’t own it for your own good. To say “that looks scary don’t do it” is EXACTLY what the gun grabbers want. To play that game is unacceptable to me; sure you can make your own decision, but to then also rail against “dumb *** cops” is ironic.

I have more than one law enforcement friend that I had to inform just that there are changes in these laws not just that there are specifics. That does not make them dumb *** cops, it makes them busy, overworked, and expected to memorize a ridiculous set of codes. They should not enforce something they don’t understand, but to respond as you do when they may not know the law will for sure get your gun impounded... not because they are “dumb *** cops” but because you are uninformed and unable to respond as an adult.

The device referenced is a muzzle brake because the exit hole is bore diameter, the holes vent gasses into the shooters vision not away, and it is specifically marketed as a brake.

And the bigger irony is by choosing to go fixed mag you are ALOT more likely to have to explain yourself to an officer than a featureless build because your rifle by appearance violates the law whereas you argue that merely having a brake that may appear to be a flash hider is so scary.

"Officer rifle is fixed magazine, therefore it cannot be an assault weapon"

"Here is the definition of an assault weapon based on CA DoJ Bureau of Firearms,

Generic Characteristics Defining Assault Weapons:
12276.1 (a) Notwithstanding Penal Code section 12276, “assault weapon” shall also mean the following:
Rifles
(1) A semiautomatic, centerfire rifle that has the capacity to accept a detachable magazine and any one of
the following:
(A) A pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action of the weapon.
(B) A thumbhole stock.
(C) A folding or telescoping stock.
(D) A grenade launcher or flare launcher.
(E) A flash suppressor.
(F) A forward pistol grip.
(2) A semiautomatic, centerfire rifle that has a fixed magazine with the capacity to accept more than 10
rounds.
(3) A semiautomatic, centerfire rifle that has an overall length of less than 30 inches.
Note: Bayonets and bayonet lugs are not assault weapon characteristics under California law."

See how easy a fixed magazine rifle is vs a featureless rifle that has a flash hider looking comp?
