Default CHP Question

Does CHP turn over all non-vehicle infractions over to local authorities or does it have an investigative division for such instances?

I see that they have a warrant team and and investigators assigned to assist local agencies and serve as liaisons between them and CHP, but do they conduct their own solo investigations, aside from ones involving school buses?

Not exactly. We've been tasked with a lot more in recent years due to budgets of allied agencies being slashed and LEO's losing their jobs. CHP can have its hand n anything and is trained in handling investigations other than vehicle code related things. The training we receive is generally during the academy and not supplemented unless we go for additional training in our own, join a WST or ISU type gig.
