Default Big 5 Visit

I went to Big 5 yesterday to buy some clay pigeons. As I was walking out asked the manager how the new ammo law is working out. He said the last few weeks of June some people were spending up to $1000 on ammo!! Now, he says they barely sell a box now and then. People walk up, ask for ammo. He says you need a background check. People say, what, never mind. Oh well, so much for that!

I figure a lot of the left's reason for gun control is creating red tape.

They got guns out of a lot of stores with complicated records requirements. Re: it wasn't all social pressure.

I know, I never buy ammo there. In reality, don't buy ammo at all any more since I have bought so much over time. Still shooting off ammo from the nineties, etc. and it still shoots as well as day I bought it. Used to only buy ammo at gun shows when guys were selling off their odd lot stuff. Feel bad for the guys just getting into shooting. What a pain in the neck to do it nowadays.

Take ammo verbiage out from the $10 coupon (spend $30) and I'm back in.

I don't think ammo prices are going to be falling anytime soon for either the big box stores or the local shops. There appears to be sufficient demand, even among Calguns members, to justify things; not to mention the new laws regarding hunting ammo.

However, I do believe that there will be changes to what will be available, in stock, and how much will be available. Any 'sales' that we see will be no better than what has been out there and there will be people buying because of the 'sale price.' It's just that there won't be as much stocked in the stores as there used to be to cover the 'rush' generated by the 'sale' since there won't be as much of a rush.

This is going to hurt the stores which did rely on ammunition sales, to whatever degree, as a key component of their profits. It won't bother the big box stores in that, as suggested above, they'll just redirect the 'difference' in stock levels to other regions. Unfortunately, the specialty shops won't simply be able to fully offset their losses by refocusing their inventories on reloading components; particularly given that the powers-that-be in Sacramento will get around to those, sooner rather than later.

Interesting times.

Long range thinking....we should all make an effort to support any of the brick and mortar stores selling ammo. With all the BS associated with delivering this product it would be real easy for them to roll up their tents and stop selling it. I'm not saying overpay, but what you can every little bit helps.

Yeah, if we stop buying ammo in CA we will be right where the anti-gunners want us. As Duckman says, we need to support our local shops. If they pull up stakes, we all lose.
