Default WEGC 10/8/2017

About 10 days out, figured I'd start the thread this time around.

Temperature's cooling down so it should be pretty good that Sunday, but hard to say what the weather will be this far out.

It's near the Cajon Pass. Great range, lots of fun. There's usually enough members to get non members signed in. I can sign 2 in.

I'm 85 miles away. What time does the range open? To sign me in, do I have to wait for a member to get there? How does that work?

Range opens at 8 but lots of times they open a little early. I will sign people in but I'm not sure I'm going.

I'm in. I have to do some reloading for my Savage 99 so hopefully I can get it done by then. I haven't it out to the range in over a year.

The range is open at 8am and a few of us are there by 8 or before. When you drive in just say you're with the calguns C&R group. We're down at the far end of the range, just park down there and introduce yourself and we'll get you signed in. Its only $10 to shoot all day and includes your target.

Do I need to bring any rifles or pistols? Or can I just ask to shoot other people's firearms? Seriously, I don't know.

You should bring your own guns. We are a friendly group and if you see a cool gun just ask if you can shoot it.

You should bring your own guns. People are open to sharing and trading rounds off of each other unique guns. A lot of cool stuff can come out to these shoots, up to and including M2HBs, depending on who decides to show up that weekend.

Maybe I'll bring some WW2 German semi-autos along. Now that my piece of sh*t Ford runs again.

I'd like to make it back up there. But, I sold my truck. I know people still go in their Honda CRX's. But, I'd hate going over that riverbed in a car.

Maybe I'll just pickup a 20 year old 4-Runner just for range trips lol

I haven't had trouble getting into the range so long as it's relatively dry in my Hyundai Sonata.

The only time where it was hairy was when it was raining hard some months back and Lytle Creek dam runoff made an Oregon Trail situation of fording a small river. Fortunately that time I was riding in a truck.

Is this strictly for C&R? Would an SKS and an old super blackhawk count?
Also, not a member of WEGC is there any procedure to try and make this event?

Well, I went to the doctors to have him look at this itch I have. He gave me a Rx to go to the range. I really want to try to get out there this time

I'll try to get my little pump .22 in action

Anyone want me to bring anything? I should prob look through my ammo stash first... Maybe my K31 sporter needs some range time

Not strictly for C&R guns but that's what you'll typically find on the firing line.

Just show up and tell them you're with the Calguns shoot and we'll get you signed in. We are at the far end of the firing line.

For people wondering if you should go, the answer is a resounding "yes" - moreso if it will be your first time out or you just wanna check out cool C&R's.

First time I went to WEGC was with these guys, and everyone was friendly and all-around cool to be around. Even had a casual C&R shootoff at 100 yds that I royally buggered with my M44.

Would definitely recommend bringing your own firearms, C&R or not, but people were very open about sharing their stuff too. Just be aware of people who might wanna try out your toys, if you have your own interesting pieces. Was awesome being able to share the Rasheed with some others.

I'll try to scrounge a chain before the shoot, but simple metal wire could suffice too.

Some of the other guys have used fire hose to good effect since it can take holes and punches and still hold the gong up. Might be worth looking into. I'll probably go this route when I eventually pony up for a gong of my own.

A metal yard MIGHT have some 1/2" mild steel circles and would be way cheaper

Plus it looks cool when you have a gong full of holes punched in it

And very unsafe. Pocked metal makes for nasty ricochets. Fire hose is always a great way to hang steel!

3/8 AR500 plate hanging from fire hose. I bend rebar to form a three sided stand. That poor 3/8 plate has withstood thousands of rounds of 7.62 54r .
I will be their Sunday.

CinnamonBear, it's not that bad of a drive from OC. You should join us one month, it's so worth it just to see all the cool old guns up close and personal.

Hi John, do you have any spare fire hose strips that you can bring along for some of the other gongs that might be coming this Sunday that we can rig up at the range?

I'm planning to go on Sunday (first time).

Does anybody have 7.7 Arisaka Go/no Go Gauges? I plan on bringing my Type 99 (sporterized unfortunately) and it would be great to see how the headspace is!

I'll also bring the Lithgow, and a couple VZ24s (all just shooters, nothing real special).

If the bolt matches the receiver, then it probably headspaces. Arisakas are strong rifles that I doubt even a loose headspace would do much.

I'll bring a Steyr M1886 Kropatschek, let's hope it doesn't blow up with the 1928 ammo I have

Still don't have my DP28 parts back from SMG...I really hope they'll come tomorrow. Fingers crossed.

Hello CG C&R,

It's been a while since my last visit and I just happen to have this Sunday free!

I have some new additions to my collection I'd like to bring.

A Carcano Model 91/28 T.S. in 6.5mm, a Spanish M1916 Mauser in .308W

and a Federal Ordanace "American Eagle" Mauser in .308W

that I've been itching to shoot.

Bringing my steel stand and GONG. I also have some chain and a extra AR500 plate that I'll bring.

If any WEGC members can help with sign in for 2 Calgun Members (Non-Members of

WEGC) on Sunday that would be great.
