Hey there Calgunners!
I'm looking to put together a fun little get together at cow mountain dec 16th if its dry enough, if not, then Circle S in Petaluma. (Maybe even in San Rafael if its REALLY bad weather) I've got a few friends that will come out and a decent array of firearms. We'll have a RIA 1911, Ruger P90, Ruger MkII, Glock 19,Browning Buckmark, and an old Marlin model 60. (Plus more from a friends friend!) We'd love to get some more diversity, meet some new people and hopefully make some good friends! As for us we're all mid 20's professionals, scientists and web developers, nice, chill guys looking for fun and responsible shooters. |

+1 Moving from San Pedro to Windsor next month. Looking for rifle friendly BLM land to shoot at.

Yeap, the only other place I know to shoot at in the area is Circle S.
Their facilities are older, the rifle range goes out to 300 yards. 25 yard ONLY for pistols/22. Prices are fair, the staff can vary from rude to very polite, people vary too I've met some great people out there. Biggest problem I have are their poorly built target stands. Several of which I've seen shot in half, midway through the day with no readily available replacement. |

How's the access to Cow Mountain via compact car? I can't imagine during muddy/wet conditions it being good, but how about when its dry? Dirt, gravel road? Lots of ruts, wash outs?

Frankpro1 I have seen Honda civics on dry days. Went to go to cow mountain last Sunday. Pulled off the freeway to find talmage rd closed due to flooding. So I decided to drive the extra hour to lake pillsbury. I already drove a hour so what's another. It ended up being an awesome day of shooting. As able to make it all the way in 2wheel. I know it's a drive but lake pillsbury is a fun place to shoot and drive. No benches just tailgates.

Lake Pillsbury would be a ton of fun, but I live in Santa Rosa pretty far in the north bay its almost 3 hours there. I love going out in the middle of nowhere to shoot, but that's a little far.
Years ago I used to go shooting by river rock (off 128) on a preserve out there, I'm not sure it was entirely legal but we met a lot of shooters out there, and generally had a great time. There would be the occasional neighbor that would come out on atv rifle on back, but it was just to make sure no one was getting murdered. Anyone know of the plot of land? It was in the middle of valleys, and there was an old shot up vw van at the bottom of the valley. |

Lake pillsbury is only 2 hrs. I also live in Santa Rosa. We left around 8:30 got there at 10:30 shoot until about 1:30 and then I'd some exploring to the top of hall mtn. Back to the basin by 4 and home at 6:30. And that's only because I got off in healdsburg to drive the flooded roads.

Awesome! I can't wait to get my P90 Thursday (from user Gminor), shoot it, and have a great time.
On the 15th I'm headed down to SF/Jackson arms to do some shooting with my LEO uncle, and hopefully shoot some S&W .500, and a good ol' over under in the mix too. On the 16th I plan on going up, weather permitting, with a couple friends and maybe meet a few people from here! |

Its going to be too wet today for my lil compact car sadly.
Went to Jackson Arms down in South San Francisco yesterday, it was great. The staff was very welcoming, and being able to rapid fire is ![]() Last edited by FreshPrinceofRP; 12-16-2012 at 10:28 AM.. |

Cow mountin is awesome. Have been 2 times in the last couple of months, on dry days I have seen everything from minivans to civics up there. On wet days I have seen 4x4 tacomas built for wheeling get stuck, so I would have to say it has more to do with the driver than the rig. I have only gone there to shoot, but I understand that there are designated areas for camping, wheeling, and any other off road vehicles as well.
