Now what about if I did want to register one of them as a RAW buy the deadline in July 2018?
You just admitted that some are unbuilt.

Even for those that are complete, but not assembled into a bullet-buttoned, featured pattern, they are ineligible for registration, be they 80% or purchased.

The "BBAW" must have been lawfully possessed prior to Jan 1 2017.
Only builds that were completed with a BB last year qualify for RAW status.

Not to be a smart *** but...I wasn't admitting anything.
I was asking a question.

Admitting would be like "Hey I'm gonna build this 80% tonight and try to reg it!" But that is not the case.
I have a number of different items in different stages. I'm just trying to figure out what is the best fit for each item.

So now that I know the answer to that question, I will AW register my complete BB items and save the 80%er's for fixed mag or featureless.

so did we ever get a simple answer for what to do with existing 80% AR pistols? Does the new BB work for those and we then need to serialize and register?

I am really close to just not caring anymore with the BS. how is it even legal for them to change a single letter in a bill let alone completely changing it after a vote?

What are the rules regarding converting handgun %80 (1911/glock) to semi-auto after it's been made single shot ? I've seen some conflicting responses. If there are court cases on this what are they ?

Imagine you put some fictitious markings a few years ago because you thought it was cute... Now what? Can you just find space on the receiver and put compliant markings? It seems unwise to destroy the old markings.
Any thoughts?

Are you talking about another serial number? If it's not a serial number it doesn't matter. The actual serial number can be anywhere conspicuous. Don't put it anywhere that might get covered up by another part.

Add a number at the end with a punch or scribe.

I read through several pages of this thread and don't see this question. I never got a Firearms Safety Certificate because I haven't purchased a firearm since it became a requirement. On the Application for a New Serial Number form from DOJ, it is asking for the FSC number. My 80% rifles were made by me in 2008.

Do I need a FSC to apply for a serial number?

Do I need a FSC to register AW's?

Are they accepting serial number applications?

Do I need to apply for a serial number if I already laser etched one in the receiver?

Thanks

Unknown... the wording of the law is not clear, it APPEARS that if the 80% was engraved and entered into a database (VolReg) that is all you need to do.

Registering it as an AW is more difficult because the AW law requires a DOJ-assigned serial number (that is not yet available)

So, follow up question. Why do I need a FSC to get a serial number or register a firearm I legally obtained prior to the requirement of FSC's?

Because DOJ made the rules.

Just leave the FSC number field blank on the registration application and see what happens.
Worst case is they decline your application an you are out $15...
