Yeah I love reloading just as much as shooting as well. To me it makes shooting so much more rewarding.

I use to load so I could shoot more. Now I sometimes think I shoot so I can reload.
Right now I have about 500 rounds loaded for for testing in a number of rifles. Just need the time to get out and shoot them over the chrono. I have already done over twice that many. Soon I will have them all figured out.
THEN I will find some H1000 and retumbo and need to work up loads with those powders. The fun never ends.
Been working up non-lead bullet loads and lead core loads.

Ive been reloading for 35 years, there are those that have made mistakes, and those that will make mistakes.

Be methodical, check, double check, triple check (as you get older) and organize, one powder at a time.

Nothin' wrong with a Lee turret press. It'll make you lots and lots of top-notch ammo over many years.

Remember, slow and steady wins the race. This is especially true of learning how to reload.

I traded off my 650 (I'll never part with my 550) but, I have no plans to ever be without a Lee hand press. It's an inexpensive yet great little tool.

No I haven't, I'm attending school in Thousand Oaks right now so my school schedule makes it difficult to find time between classes and homework.

with the lee turret press, I recommend that you pull the pin/rod and run it as a single stage to start out with till you get the hang of things so that you don't compound any mistakes that you are destine to make (we all make them)

but yes just go slow & double check your work... and buy a reloading manual & actually read it, hell buy 2 or 3 of them & the ABCs of reloading

Lee turret press is what I use too and it does the job just fine (just takes a little longer than a progressive). And where did you find a store that had Varget in stock?? That stuff is like 22lr right now!

I find its quick and consistent enough for plinking rounds but if you are going for target rounds and shooting for accuracy you will need to weigh out each charge and adjust as needed (which I found to be nearly every load).
I just started using the Lee Perfect Powder Measurer and am really impressed with its consistency and ease of use. I wish I had picked one up when I started reloading, and my advice to you is that you look into it and give it a try.
Congrats on your first steps into the reloading world, the Lee turret will serve you well!

I saw your thread actually and started looking into it, may need to pick one up if I'm not happy with the auto disks.

^^^^this x 1000! we have a BOO BOO thread here and you'll be posting on it sooner or later, just hopefully not with pictures of mangled body parts. a squashed case, spilled primers or powder are a pain in the *****, but as long as everybody (including guns) comes out safe, all is well. good luck and enjoy it, don't feel you need to crank out 4000 rounds a night to keep up with the joneses, most people that do that, or claim to anyway, obviously have fantasy lives where they not only can afford the best of the best equipment, but also have time to shoot that much, which is not the case for some of us.

Congratulations. Your doing good. I started back in '80 with a Lee handloader in .357. Smacking dies with a hammer and throwing powder with a red plastic scoop.

Bought a Dillon Square Deal about '85 and graduated to a 550. Lots of good brands out there to choose from.

Good luck with your new stuff and stay safe.

SWEET!

Another one added to the minion list!

Is it the Lee Classic Turret that has the body that looks like an arrow?

You know, the one that is excellent at making pistol rounds and rifle rounds as well?

I've found the auto disk to be very consistent, but that the Lee data is not always accurate. You'll definitely want to experiment with the disk until you find the hole that throws the charge you want. Every powder is different though so checking your powder throws frequently is always a good idea. I love using it for pistol rounds.

I'd also recommend a separate powder measure for larger rifle charges along with the rifle powder die. The Lee Perfect Powder Measure is good and economical, although any of the measures from RCBS or Hornady or Lyman or any of the reputable companies will be great too.

Take CSA up on his offer...he'll get you set up the right way. There should be a clinic coming up soon in your neck of the woods too (hint hint CSA)...

***UPDATE*** Bullets for .308, .223, 9mm and 45 ordered, as well as 308 dies (see other thread of mine). Going to start with 308 and the rest will be done eventually. Now just need some more brass, guess I have to go shoot more lol, but do need primers and powder for the 9 and 45. Can I use CCI #200 primers on a 223 also?

Go to an outdoor range. I have picked up a lot of once-fired stuff there. Lots of people have even offered it to me and swept it in little piles.

I was at an indoor range Thursday and the guy in the next lane saw I was collecting .45 and gave me all his once-fired.

I let him run a mag through my Uzi as he and his buddy had never shot one.

He was curious as to if the gun was legal holding 32 rounds. I explained to him how I papered it way back when.

You meet the coolest people at the range sometimes.

Dies for 308 have arrived, bullets on the way (175gr SMK)!! Excited to get my first rounds done. My kit came with the Lee Saftey scale but considering buying a digital scale just for ease of use. Thoughts on that?

I got the Gemini 20 off shopfor2A.com as recommended by others on here. The one down fall to it is it's not a powder scale so the tray won't hold the 43 grains you'll need for 308. What I have done though is just set my Lee tray on the Gemini tray and then tare it out. I use it this way and trickle up to weight.

I you want pics of this setup let me know in a PM and I'll post some.
