Default my score from the Chico Gun Show last week...JC higgins model 66

brought this JC Higgins Model 66 semi-auto 12ga home from the Chico Gun Show for $150 cash-and-carry. Wasn't planning on doing anything more than nursing my hangover and helping my friends navigate their first gun show (found some decent ammo and accessories deals and one of my friends even bought an old .45LC for $450....next cheapest one we saw was $750) but when I saw this I just couldn't pass it up. Needed a semi-auto 12ga for hunting and figured i'd be ok with abusing this one.

The bluing has some wear but nothing TOO bad. Wood furniture is in great shape and the action and trigger are smooth. Haven't taken her out yet since I've been busy with school, and no one has cheap 100 packs of 12ga right now...but I plan on checking out how well it patterns with that attached poly-choke as soon as i get a chance (goes from Slug to X-Full).

if anyone's ever had any experience with these, please let me know...good or bad...

You stole that thing! Great deal

Gotta love the old J.C. Higgins shotguns! Sturdy and reliable, and cheap to boot

yeah, i thought it was mistagged when i first looked at it but the guy only wanted $150 for it. He wasn't exactly sure what year it was made, he just knew it was made before 1962 so it was C&R eligible. I had to run to the ATM to get cash and the whole time i was away from his table i was thinking "i bet someone is gonna scoop it up before i get back...no way is that gonna be there in 5 minutes..." but sure enough, it was still sitting there.

After I bought it I had about 30 people come up and check it out since i was just carrying it around while my friends kept browsing. at least half of them said "how the hell did i miss that???" when i told them it was only $150. Everything else priced in that range seemed to be severely beat up old .22lr's or wall-hanger muskets. later on a few friends of mine had commented on facebook about how the Chico gun show was nothing but over priced junk and insanely priced AR's. They didn't like me too much when i told them what I had found
