Ruger 10/22 vs Colt M4 22 Carbine
Have been looking to purchase a 10/22 but haven't been able to find one in stock. A friend of a friend is selling a Colt M4 22 Carbine for $350. Not sure which route to go. Does anyone have a experience with both and feel like offering any advice?

Keep checking the classifieds for the 10/22 they'll pop up occasionally and highly worth it, these will resell for a little loss later down the line if you decided to sell and there's a myriad of help and modification guides for it on the internet.
Personally I don't like the Colt 22 carbine just because I don't find it even close to the functions of my own AR15 clone. If I wanted a "training" type AR15 in .22lr I would probably go with the Smith and Wesson M&P .22lr carbine. The Smith & Wesson tactical rifles feature a fully functional charging handle, an AR-15 style magazine release, bolt catch and a two-position receiver mounted safety.

I just scored a 10/22 at bass pro on Monday. By pure luck , it wasnt displayed I just ask the guy if they had any expected to hear the usual ,"nope sold out dont know when were getting any ", instead he walked toward the 22s checked underneath the display rack and bam there was one with my name on it. They told me if you have and they have one they will write your name on it and put it aside but you have to purchase it that day.

I like the AR and tactical 22 for my kids . There eyes seem to glow with the wow factor. I want to get this for my older 10/22 for them.
http://ads.midwayusa.com/product/567...ynthetic-black I know its legal . and assault features dont apply to rimfire. But do you think its pushing it if I use my legal 25rds. Or should I be ok. |

The Ruger 10/22 is the gold standard. I have both a Ruger 10/22 AND the M&P 15-22 Performance Model.
The M&P is fun but a bit finiky for ammo. The tight barrel likes CCI Tactical 22LR only. Other CCI and anything else I get failure to eject. The Tatical stuff is flawless though. It does funtion like the AR with bolt hold back and release and the same mag release mechanism. The Ruger will fire anything and loves everything. No issues at all. Parts are cheap, mags are cheap too. Good luck . . .

Like others have said 10/22 is a better rifle than the Urmax Colt M4 22. Wait for a 10/22.
Where about's are you?

If your in LA I would venture over to Turner's. They just had the 10/22 takedown on sale last week or the week before. I was able to score one during the sale.
From what I've been told by one of the managers at Turner's 10/22's come in pretty quick so if you put a deposit down for one I'm pretty sure you'll be able to get one.

can't wait for next Saturday. get to pick up my ruger 10/22 takedown. picked one up at turners for about $320. scored about 675 rounds at ~$.07/round so hopefully it will be as fun as everyone says especially at that price.

Skip the Colt and wait for a 10/22. I thought about going the tacti-cool route but decided to make a tack driver. It was a money pit and I caught a lot of grief from the ex wife over it. But it shoots dimes at 50 yards with good ammo.

I'd buy a 10/22 IMO. Make a benchgun or a lightweight model. I'd rather buy a used 10/22 that's nice, than most tactical style 22's.

As I understand it, a featureless AR .223 with a bullet button can use a 30 round magazine.
I'm a bit confused about rifles such as the Ruger 10/22 / S&W / Mossberg 715T which is rimfire, but does not have a bullet button, yet is legal to use a 25 round magazine? |

My guns and I are much happier now that we're single.

So yes you can use them, but you can't buy new rimfire hi-caps in Cali. Last edited by davek8s; 02-25-2013 at 9:30 PM.. |

My mp15-22 eats almost all .22 other than the cheap Remington and Winchester, it shoots the Remington match no problem. It keeps me happy while I wait for ar-15 prices to come down. The ruger 10/22 was the first .22lr I shot if the prices ever come back down I might get a takedown model.

I have both rifles and love them both but use them for different kinds of fun. The Colt/Umarex is for blasting lots of rounds and getting the AR15 feel for cheap. I've put thousands of trouble free rounds through it and my wife loved it so much she claimed it for her own. The 10/22 is for accuracy and plinking (although mine is all upgraded with Kidd parts).
If I was you and could afford both, I'd get the Colt from your friend now and the 10/22 later when you can find one. |

I bought one today at Big5 for that price. A little pricey but I didn't want to wait.

they have some 10/22 rifles at ELITE FIREARMS ANNEX in orange. My wife picked up a red laminate stock one a couple of weeks ago. Very nice rifle. We also picked up a mp15-22 from turners last month, and that is also a very fun rifle to go plinking with.
My friend just picked up a Urmax Colt M4 22 and he cannot find mags for it anywhere. I was able to get 4 promag mags, and 2 sw mags, for the 15-22 without much trouble.

One of my 10/22's is that model w/ synthetic stock and I want to mount a bipod on it. Which bipod is it and did you drill the hole yourself for the sling/bipod mount?
