Default $60/1000 for LPP? Really?

I made the rounds through my LGS's the other day looking for large pistol primers. A few shops had them for $59.99 per 1k box. Seriously? These were shops where I've bought them before for around $35/k.

I still see them online for around $30/1k, but nobody has them in stock. Are they really going that high like everything else, or is there some profiteering going on here?

Fortunately, I was able to find 5,000 for around $38/1k at one of the stores.

Me thinks I need to buy large online somewhere and wait out a back order.

Ammo bros, ontario had some primers. I saw the lrp for around $200 per 5,000. Not sure how much the lpp were but I would expect them to be in the same price range

This is not new. The perceived shortage and inflated pricing has been going on since Sandy Hook. Try Big 5 for $45.99/1000 primers. Or, just use the ones from your stockpile. Every good reloader has a stockpile of components to keep them going for a year or more, right?

I stock what I can, when I can. Looks like I'm going to have to allocate some more resources to deepen my inventory some more.

My supply of LPPs dipped under my threshold when I was last reloading, which led me to start looking again. I'm set for SPP and SRP, but I reload a lot more with LPP since that's what I regularly train with.

Thanks for the info.

You could also put out a WTT ad. I've seen people willing to trade LPP's and LPM's for SPP's and SRP's in the past.

That's one way to throttle hoarding and preserve some supply for those who really need it NOW. You can't look like you're in the reloading business, if your shelves are always empty. You may be doing something wrong. Purchase quantity limits on are pretty standard now for what I have seen.

When I was not having better luck looking for magnum primers, I did pay $59.95/k for a few thousand online, HAZMAT and all. Supply and demand, dontchano?

Oaktree has always had Primers in stock, of all kinds. The price went up slightly to $42 after tax, but that was because their distributor raised the price.

My local Big 5 has shotshell primers at $59.95 per 1k. They have been sitting there for months as I continue to order Cheddite primers on line for $29.00.

Probably out of stock by now, I'm sure, but Powder Valley had SPP and LPP in stock today. Tula, both under 25 bucks. Need to buy a lot to spread out the 27.00hazmat fee.
Both Natchez (5k maximum maybe) and Wideners had them within the last week.

Primers are in stock everywhere. You just need to look a little harder.

I remember the first time I bought reloading supplies in bulk. I kept about 1/5 and sold the rest off to cover mine. I thought I was hooking people up but all I did was priced it so low that somebody bought almost all of it and turned around a few days later and jacked the price way up. I got my money so I could not complain but I learned a valuable lesson about supply and demand. I now try to price a little under going rates to keep people from reselling what they buy from me but not take anybodies first born.

Bullseye in Riverside has federal for $35/1k in LP and SP and LR is still at $39, prolly 10+ bricks of each still...

OH yeah, and I saw 4 bricks of federal LP for $45 at big-5. Don't worry though, just wait for them to drop the prices down to $8.99 on a weekend sale...

Well they go for $50-$65/k online right now depending on who you get them from, so say if you bought 3k at $65 +$50 in shipping you'd be looking right at $81/k. I know this because I just did this 3 min ago! Butttt, I figured I paid $55/k for some shiitty Tula's a month or so ago (same price as the going rate for CCI/Fed LRP's locally if you could ever find them in stock) so really it's only $26/k more or $0.026 more per round.

Now with my Lapua brass ($0.85/1) and Berger 175 OTM's ($0.44/1) I'll pay the extra 2.6 cents to have them over the shiitty Tula's or even normal CCI's at the same price.

....the guy selling them is probably just trying to sell them for what he basically paid for 5 lots of 1k to help spread the hazmat/shipping cost just like one user in this thread said.

Yeah it ****ing blows, but with every other type of primer you can get lucky and find them in stock locally. NO ONE has Bench Rest primers in stock locally so you have to buy them online and get rapped on shipping. Sucks balls!
