Because of the backlog, the county’s Board of Supervisors on Tuesday discussed the possibility of increasing funding for the Sheriff’s Department to provide the staffing that would review the applications.

Supervisor Todd Spitzer suggested adding temporary staff to hurry the process along.

“That suggestion is great,” Supervisor John Moorlach said.

For those of you printing out your DL on line, that printout is a K4 printout only goes back 3 years. If you want to go back further you must go to a DMV office and request a H6 printout, it will be $5

I don't have a FB account. Those that do should comment in the article and say they could avoid the backlog by not requiring an interview.

Apparently if you do traffic school it doesn't show up on the $2 DMV report. I had a speeding ticket in 2012 and it doesn't show up. So if it doesn't show up with DMV, are you suppose to list it or not on the CCW application???

I'm gonna go personally to the dmv with the form filled out and see if it's different.

I've dealt with two OC certified CCW instructors and their live fire drill is very different. One is so simple, you shoot at a 1/2 size silhouette target at distance of 3/5/7 yards with 24 round at each distance for each gun. The other one actually have you do reload, kneeling, shooting from strong side cover and weak side cover and throw in malfunction drill in the mix.

Regardless the live fire training is still easy especially if you have taken more serious combat pistol training before. Ask around and choose your instructor wisely.

Melissa confirmed that if you took traffic school, it won't show up in that DMV print out. She said not to worry about it in that case since they see the same info when they look. although it won't hurt if you list any that you remember.

what about offenses prior to being 18? I have a minor in possession of alcohol from like 2003ish? supposedly after I took a class it was supposed to be sealed. is a minor record really ever "sealed"?

they told me it was sealed so should I list that or no?

I just hope that if they add personnel, those of us with existing appointments get the opportunity to move the date up first. I have a June appointment.

At this rate, I will probably be the first in 2015! Sounds like she skipped over my email.

Edit: Note, I sent an e-mail Friday. Haven't heard back yet and others that emailed after are getting dates already.

First emailed Melissa on Friday the 14th. Been emailing back and forth every other day or so trying to find one I'm available. Just booked July 22nd

I think she is trying to answer on a first come first serve basis.

She is answering first come first served. I finally got a response for September 3rd at 2.
They are going to have to do something or making it impossible to get an interview will create a new lawsuit for them

I doubt that's going to be the case. It would be much wiser (cheaper) to increase staff to deal with the current wave of applicants. They are not going to win a lawsuit like that, plus the reality is their CCW people will be so overwhelmed it makes perfect sense to add staff so things don't get messed up.

If you want a comprehensive report of your moving violations, don't go to the DMV. go to.....

Good suggestion. Remember, it's only for cites that occurred in Orange County.

Note you have to first register for an account to do a name search:

https://apps.occourts.org/Account/Register

I tried it and it showed my ticket from 2012 and that it was dismissed with traffic school.

Was looking into pricing for the classes at a OCSD approved school and I just received an email saying once you go in for an interview, it takes another 6-9 months to get approval and the class cert only last 90 days. Has anyone else heard of this? No wonder they don't want you taking the course before being approved.

I can't see them taking 6-9 months to get "approval", but can't say for sure. But with THOUSANDS of people all trying to get into a finite number of 16 hours classes, there will be a wait for that as well I might imagine.

I spoke w/ a certified instructor this week who confirmed the same. After you wait now 10 months just to get your ccw interview, you will be told about 3 months later you have been approved or denied. Then it takes about another 9 months to get the permit issued. Nine months was the amount of time BEFORE the recent flood of appointment requests. So it sounds like if nothing changes in the staffing or process in OC, it will be close to 2 years to get your permit.

Hopefully we'll see a rash of lawsuits to put an end to this delay in upholding our rights.

So, I have all my paperwork and copies of everything I need together, but I am going over the application again. Will "Self defense for my family and me." be enough or do I have to write a lengthy reason further explaining self defense?

Also, what are other qualifying documents besides utility bills for the proof of residence?

I'm going with Tincon's recommendation: "lawful self-defense"

CCW SUPPORTING DOCUMENT CHECKLIST
I have the checklist but I am referring to:

Quote:
Copies of two of your most recent utility bills or any other sufficient proof of your full-time residency within the County of Orange as indicated on your application
So basically, what other documents can you use besides utility bills, cell phone? cable? car registration?
