Default How many rds do you take on Vacation ?

Was just curious how many extra you pack along (for CCW) while on vacation, when there will be no (hopefully) shooting, but to just have encase or what ever.

I my self take 1 box of each cal for the one's that go with me.

How about you ?

I don't generally bring anything other then what I would normally carry (unless I plan on doing actual shooting while on vacation)

Typically a M&P Pro CORE with RM07 17+1 and a spare 17. Sometimes a Glock 19 with 15+1 and a spare 17. Either of those would be the most common for me.

Most often I carry just my daily carry. The gun and two spare Mags. If I have to use the gun, pretty sure the vacation is over.

Yeah using = vacation over, but because of the minor prepper in me, I carry a bob/GH bag, but no extra munitions in those, so for longer trips, like out of state (as I'm doing tomorrow), I'll toss in a box for wife's & my carry pieces, takes little to no room.

Better to have & not need thing.

So just wondering if other felt the same, or more/less so on this issue.

All the firearms on my CCW card, 2 Magazines for each firearm, and 100 RDs of Range ammo in addition to the SD ammo in the Magazines.

Theory is, if something goes on (SHTF) and we need to fight our way home, I want my wife to have a sidearm as well.

Loaded gun and at least 2, usually 3, spare magazines in the car (one of them on me). At least 100 rounds of JHP ammo (never know when your going to end up in a tight spot) and 100 rounds of FMJ just in case I stumble across someplace where I can shoot outdoors legally. This worked out well on my cross county trip last Spring. I stumbled across BLM land and some nice outdoor ranges as I went and was able to shoot and then just stop and buy more FMJ at the next Wal-Mart.

No CCW here. Take my Glock 19 and two 15 round mags filled with Black Talon. Which is probably 28 or 29 more rounds than I'll ever need.

I always have a box of 50 in my vehicle.

I carry the extra mainly if the opportunity to shoot presents itself unexpectedly. Ya, FMJ is cheaper, but I generally do practice with HP.

Depending on where we are going and for how long. Usually a couple boxes for our carry guns (in case an opportunity to target shoot arises) plus our regular carry load, which is usually one or two extra mags each depending on the gun.

I also usually take the 10/22 Takedown and a brick. I got used to having it when I had a plane. It's kind of my "get home" gun if the world ends while I'm on vacation.

We spend part of our summer in the rockies. The chance of needing a defensive gun is like... zero. God help you if you shoot a Rangers pet grizzly bear! I'd almost rather get eaten, than mauled. I still carry for all the reasons I can't imagine.

My SO's mother works for the Feds on the AZ border. It's a lot better now, everyone there is either a Fed or a smuggler... we take two AR's when we go down there for a visit. Not because we "need" them, but because we can!

Barring a vacation involving shooting my own firearms: Assuming I am not driving; two mags worth of ammo. If I am driving; maybe another mag or two. If I feel like I need my plate carrier, 5.56 ammo on stripper clips in the can, and my rifle I am probably not going to be going to that particular location for a vacation.

for a safety measure..I just take what I normally carry with....if on vacation and have a box or two..I would probably shoot all of it at a range and then become defenseless..now I take other guns on vacation with separate ammo for that reason.

Unfortunately California and Hawaii don't reciprocate...probably will be unarmed there. Yet, Idaho does and will be armed on that trip.

Usually the compact and sub compact on my permit with 2 mags each. AND often something not on my CA permit but allowed to be carried by my other state permit to carry just because I can. For example my 1911 isn't on my CA permit but I carried it last time I was in Arizona just cuz i could.

I always have the trunk rifle and 200 rounds of ammo for that in case I needed to fight my way to the gun store.

I'll let you know, if I ever take a vacation

When I travel for work, if going to a state that honors one of my permits, I usually take my G29 w/ two 10rd magazines loaded with JHP. Anything more than that is just going to sit in my hotel room, so why bother bringing it?

Depends on the length of the vacation and destination.

My carry gun and one extra mag or speedloader. I don't do the "trunk gun" and an ammo box loaded with 500 rounds or anything. I might bring my gauge when I do the Mojave trail this spring, but that's about it.

Precisely.

I'm currently central coast on short getaway with gf for Valentine's weekend - nothing more than EDC and one spare mag... If it were longer trip (especially where I planned to be doing some shooting) I'd take more ammo (and possible different carry gun).

I take all my ammo on vacation.
As a truck driver, my vacations are 'staycations'.
Took 3 weeks off last Oct and went nowhere for a change of scenery.

It depends, if destination allows CCW then it is a pistol + 2 mags. On hunting trips I take 11 pounds of ammo (max allowed by airlines) for whichever caliber rifles I take with me.

Default If I driving and I expect/hope to do some shooting...

If I driving and I expect/hope to do some shooting, a couple of mags/several boxes of ammo, maybe a couple of non-ccw guns with the appropriate ammo.

If I am flying and expect to carry at my destination, a couple of mags and a enough defense ammo to fill and reload these mags...

After attending Lt. Col. Dave Grossman's Bulletproof Mind Seminar this afternoon, I have fundamentally changed my opinion on this subject and either vacation or daily, my bailout bag with full kit is going.

Last September we drove 5k miles, 13 states, 14 days..... 3 mags w/10rds each for both Glocks. Only 3 states I couldn't carry, but those states were all highway driving. My wife asked " why take 2".... some days it feels like a 17 day and others feel like a 19 day.

If I'm carrying the G26, I normally carry a G17 mag as my reload. I also have three additional (loaded) G17 mags in my get home bag. In addition, I keep a 50 round box in the trunk of all my vehicles.

Stay safe.

If I'm going to Wyoming for a vacation, it's this much:

If I'm going to Detroit, then it's this:

Oh yeah, and this is my traveling companion for backup:
