Sorry to hear about the Upland fiasco. Just apply wit San Bernardino County Sheriff's office.

No good cause required. Just write personal defense.

Wife has hers as do neighbors, etc.

Guys the NRA is very important. but the big commitment is coming from CRPA and Calguns Foundation at the local level. Calguns doesn't have a set fee, but it feels really good to have contributor next to your name.

CRPA is working hard and is the best $25 you'll spend after your NRA membership. they are fighting for us.

It's my understanding that CGN contributors with the title under their name are strictly for the website. Cgf is a separate entity and CGN contributor title has nothing to do with cgf.

Off topic, but Riverside does issue. It's not vSI, but it's permissive May issue. Many riverside calgunners have their permits.

So Lt. Mathews just called me back, I asked him about the applications being revisited and the possibility of upland pd being in violation of the law, he emidiatly got a little excited, defensive and irritated. He personally didn't know much about the law in question but told me that upd was following the advise of their lawyers, stating that in "This Situation" we are operating within the law. I asked what what was special about this situation and he just went on about how that is what their lawyers said and he could not speak on it. Bottom line they believe they are within the law and are not budging.

Their lawyers said, hu?

Funny, San Bernardino, too, affirmed their lawyers confirmed they were within the law before getting sued by Birdt. I am sincerely beginning to question what kind of "experts" some of these agencies have chosen to rely on.

Interesting. Some of had all the requirements completed prior to the effective date of this policy. Some had all the requirements completed prior to the Chief taking over the Dept.

I had all requirements completed prior to the new chief taking over. However the interim chief just wasn't around to sign my permit. This is according to the dept.

Based off that policy it sounds like they are basically the same as LA county now.

Not surprising seeing as he came from LAPD.

Just to add my .02 cents, SB Sheriffs have been very respectful to our plight of being shut down so abruptly. I've since interviewed and live scanned.

I think Upland is fearful of lawsuits for improper use of CCW's and I wouldn't hold my breath anytime soon that that will be changing. I don't see renewals being favorable based on all this.

Just go to the Sheriffs and apply. Good cause doesn't seem like much of a hurdle there.

Just quick update on how crappy the chief response to this is:
"I can make changes to your existing CCW however, in the last few months when I have made changes the Chief has not signed them and has rescinded them. If you would like to take the chance I can change yours and see if he signs it. Others have decided to just leave them as they are and wait until they are up for renewal to see if the Chief changes his position by then. "

Just a heads up for those of you that got your permit in Upland.

I talked with the my barber last week and he said that the city WILL be renewing those permits.

He said that you should contact them about 8 weeks before your permit expires.

He also said not to go in and "show" your permit to the captain. He will say: Oh let me see that. Once you give it to him he'll say: Thanks but I don't feel comfortable with you having this so I'm just going to keep it.

All of your correspondence should only be with that Lutz(?) lady that you've worked with before.

Good luck with your renewal.

That sounds pretty goofy. The department will issue permits but a captain in the same department will take it away if you show it to him?

Also, what insight does your barber have to the process? Seems strange that he's the go-to person for info.

Not if you've followed the thread.

It was info I got from him that got this whole thing going and helped several people here get their permits.

Why bother with UPD? Go through SBCSO as they are virtually shall issue!

The barber in question is a retired Kern county sheriff who has an upland issued CCW and friends at Upland PD, hence the info. I can corroborate this, as I go to the same barber.

The reason the captain will take it from you, is because the new **** head chief of police is an anti and former LAPD, where nobody gets permits. Every current permit was signed/issued BEFORE he took over, and NONE have been issued since. A few members in this thread had their applications halted when he took over, and had to go to SBSO.

That's true.

But, there are several members here that already got permits from Upland. This news is good for those people only.

When the new chief took over those who already had gotten their permits were sure that they would have to go to SBSO to get a new permit from them. This news will save those lucky few the 8 month wait with SBSO.

No they are not "virtual shall issue." There are threads about it.

But yes, you have a much, much better chance of getting a good response with the Sheriff's department.

I am highly skeptical about whether or not the new chief will renew, I think it's very likely false for most permit holders. May be true for the barber, since he is former LEO. Considering that Capt. Ken Bonson is snatching permits the second he gets his hands on them, I find it hard to believe the chief would sign a new permit. I'm sure Capt. Bonson is just following orders, but who knows his thoughts on the issue.

My advice would be to go through the county. I know a user who got his through UPD but made the decision to go to county anyways and he has gotten his permit through the county after forfeiting his upland ccw. That's the way to do it. I wouldn't invest my time and money in UPD with my freedoms on the line, not with Chief Johnson anyways.

I have word from a VERY good friend with an upland issued CCW that personally met with Johnson this week, and he WILL be renewing permits for those who have no given cause to not be renewed (behaved yourself). Unfortunately he is maintaining his position on not issuing new permits and says go to the county as is current policy.
Not the barber either, which is where most of the info comes.

That's really good news for Upland CCW holders and common sense on Chief Johnson's part. I'm glad he's being reasonable with the renewals at least. Hopefully we hear from someone who renews successfully!
