Because you have to provide proof of what you are claiming on your good cause makes it not worth it?? If thatís to much for you, then you arenít serious about carrying in the first place and probably also arenít properly training.

Do a little work, keep up on your training and renew your permit. It will be worth it if the need ever comes.

Just seems like they are making us jump through unnecessary hoops, they are saying itís because if they ever get autided they want backup documentetation

Not every CCW holder is the mall Nina type who lives and breathes CCW, actually most quite the opposite

I will jump through a few of their hoops and see what happens, if it gets too hard to deal with then we will see where it goes.

I had to add a bit of documentation because I started working prior to my renewal...a few extra hoops? Yeah, but they weren't the hoops with blazing fire. nothing difficult about it at all.

If the little bit the OCSD is asking for is that big of an inconvenience, then so is proper training, and Iíd rather not have you out in public with a firearm then.

If you posted that in a constitutional carry state they would laugh you out of that state.

Constitutional carry doesnít mean you are prepared to carry. Just means you can.

Do NOT bug them, they know you want/need the permit.
Just be thankful you don't live in LA Co., the wait would make you trip over your beard..

Anyone have experience submitting essentially the same GC for another renewal?

Nothing has changed since I renewed 2 years ago. Should I just submit the same GC statement?

Yes you should.
Make sure you re-write it to bring up to date. It should look like an official letter with dates and signatures. Worked for me on my first renewal.

Good luck.

I didn't re-write mine, simply stated that it had not changed. No questions asked. Proof of current employment required, nothing further.

Just to be clear, when I say re-write I don't mean change it, I mean change the date and anything that needs changing, not the actual reasons.

Default lost in ccw limbo

I had my appt Jan 5th, with my livescan already completed. Turned in my training certificate Jan 22nd and have not heard anything.

I've emailed and called and no one returns my emails or calls.

Coming up on 4 months since I turned in everything.

Yeah, that sounds like a lost app. I have not heard of them being unresponsive - I would call in and explain just as you have here. Someone will help you.

I agree that something must have happened. From my personal experience and from everything I've read here they are quite responsive. Four months with no word and no response to your calls or emails doesn't sound right. I would send them another email.

As a current CCW holder, I want to add another gun to my license (Orange Co). In the past, I've added a gun after getting qualified with it over at The Firing Line in Huntington Beach (via "Security Training Center", a training provider).

The issue is that Security Training Center is only at The Firing Line on Sundays; they are available on other days, but up in Burbank or other distant locations.

I would like to try to get qualified on this new gun this Saturday somewhere in OC since I'll won't be able to make it this Sunday to The Firing Line.

Can anyone recommend a place in Orange Co (or south LA County--e.g. Long Beach, etc) where I can go this Saturday, or maybe somewhere in the evening during the week?

Check out On Target in Laguna Niguel. They typically have an instructor on site during business hours.

They will charge you range time + ammo/targets and after you send the appropriate number of rounds downrange and into the proper targets will fill out your qualification paperwork for you. No additional fees.

When i did mine (was able to go at lunch time) the whole process took less than 45 mins. It was very convenient because I didn't have to schedule anything, just called ahead to make sure an instructor was going to be there to sign off. Good luck.

Thanks!

It's cool that I can go there pretty much at anytime (just walk in) and get qualified with the new firearm.

I plan on going tomorrow after work or on Saturday.

It used to be that you would fill out a form that had more questions than the online form. Have those been removed or do you fill out some form after the online one and answer more questions?

Also what is the interview like? What are they asking and wanting to know?

As for paying for different things can I pay for the application then when approved take the class, are those the only two things you pay for?

Guys, applied for an amended license last night at 9:30 pm.

Added 4 different pistols and deleted one.

At 7:58 this am the application was approved and a appointment given. Unreal.

Default Update

12/1/2017 On-line application done
12/22/2017 Training done
12/22/2017 Live Scan done
01/25/2018 Interview done. End of interview response was to wait a few weeks for an email to come pick up.
4/9/2018 I sent a polite email asking about the status.
4/10/2018 OCSD referred me to a psychological examination, in ENCINO!.....lucky me.
5/17/2018 was the first available appointment to complete the examination which the results were not available to me but sent to the OCSD.
5/23/2018 I received the automated call and an email to pick up my CCW.
5/24/2018 I picked up my CCW.

I never had a psychological examination. I was told that I was randomly selected (or was it really my email following up?). The psychological examination was not a big deal and I am wondering if it is a good idea for the OCSD to require all CCW holders to go through this.

5/21/18 - license ready for pickup. There in less than and hour to pick up...

Was a good process. All the deputies were very helpful and informative.

It's cool that I can go there pretty much at anytime (just walk in) and get qualified with the new firearm.

I plan on going tomorrow after work or on Saturday.

Went to OnTarget. Was in and out of there in 30 minutes or so with certificate in-hand. Their firearm qualification test was 200% easier than what Security Training Center has you do.

All I had to do was shoot 20 rounds into a two B-27-like targets (see similar target below). All shots had to be inside the 8 circle. No head-shots.
  • Shoot 10 rounds at 7 yards
    Change target
  • Shoot 10 rounds at 5 yards
Bada-bing, bada-boom. Done!

At STC (a year ago), we had to:
  • Shoot 14 rounds in 45 seconds at 7 yards (three reloads, 6, 6 & 2)
  • Shoot 6 rounds in 10 seconds at 7 yards
  • Shoot 12 rounds in 25 seconds at 7 yards (incl reload)
    - 6 strong hand unsupported
    - 6 weak hand unsupported
  • 3 rounds in 4 seconds at 5 yards (in 2 stages, total of 6 rounds)
  • 2 rounds in 3 seconds at 3 yards (in 3 stages, total of 6 rounds)
