Default Boulder CO. Banning "Assault Weapons"

I know this is not here in Comminfornistan BUT I feel this will be happening in the VERY near future here. Has anyone see this yet, sorry if this is a repost.

Yes, I have been keeping a close eye on that situation as I live in Colorado Springs myself. Stupid commies.

And it's not just the sale either. No grandfather clause, no ownership. Complete commie.

From reading the text, I was given the impression that grandfathering through registration was allowed. It looks relatively similar to the CA ban

Registration only allowed for competitive shooters.
Quote:
Exemption

Staff recommends that council consider exemptions from the ban. Staff recommends four exemptions:

1) for weapons owned by law enforcement, federal officers and military personnel;
2) for weapons owned by holders of federal firearms licenses, stamps or permits;
3) for weapons owned by competitive shooters;
4) for inoperative weapons that have historical value.

This recommendation is based on the belief that individuals owning weapons in these categories do not present the same risks as the general population.

Holders of federal firearms licenses, stamps and permits undergo an extensive background check that can take up to six months. Under federal law, they can own a variety of weapons. Inclusion of this provision may avoid questions of federal preemption as well.

Boulder is home to several successful competitive shooters who have competed on the national level. The Boulder Rifle Club has a junior shooting
program and is home to several competitive shooters. While the club itself is not in the city limits, many members live in Boulder. Thus, staff recommends excluding competitive shooters from the ban, provided the weapons are registered with the Boulder Police Department.

I'm surprised Boulder didn't fall before Denver.

I’d like to see the definition for “competitive shooter”

I compete against myself, does that count?

Sounds like a good place to open a competitive shooting club.

The key assumption for me in the text is that their main issue is the level of risk they perceive from the general public to possess arms they don't like.

There is no distinction between those few people in any community that are the source of almost all the violence, and everyone else.

If they want to rely on "risk assessment", then they should be able to say what level of risk is appropriate (in their opinion), and how that is quantified.

That will never happen though. It introduces too many uncontrollable facts.

I've shot at Boulder Rifle Pistol Club when I was stationed at Ft Carson. They run 3-gun there so that's likely what they're referring to.

Let’s say you can keep it for competition, next regulation will be to have you store it at your gun club. Same model used in other countries.

What would prevent someone from (say) doing the bare minimum just to say they are a competitive shooter?

Attending one GSSF shoot per year,

Competing in one IPSC event and placing dead last...

Just throwing that out there. I’m obviously not in CO but whenever I see fine print like that my wheels start turning.

I only glanced what's available online and it says that it's membership in an organization and having an assault weapon registered with local PD.

They're going to have a high hill to club considering CO has state pre-emption.

These idiots obviously don’t remember what happened in Colorado the last time they tried to ban ‘hi cap’ mags.

Interesting and I’m here to watch since Boulder is where I bought my first gun (a used Ruger P89) oh so many years ago.

One bold young city attorney who will have a target on his back if more don't step up in this state and start backing his play in other cities and counties. We need to lend all the support we can give verbally or otherwise. he had the courage and now do we?

They also have an allowance for FFLs but don't distinguish what type. In theory everyone who wants to keep their rifles and not register could just maintain an FFL03
