I EDC a Benchmade 535 Bugout. It’s a little pricey in my opinion but I like the S30V steel. Weighs just under 2 ounces with a good deep pocket carry clip, makes it disappear in your pocket. Pretty good blade to weight ratio.

Benchmade mini griptilian is my everyday carry knife. I love it, because it Holds an edge really well and is easy to sharpen. I started using the Benchmade Field Sharpener and its even better now. Plus the cost won’t break the bank if you have to replace.

I prefer a 3.5" blade but you are coming from a 2.6" blade so perhaps try a 3" to transition. Carrying a bid blade is a bit of an adjustment but using a blade that fits your hand makes the task easier.
My Lambert/Reate is the best size and fit

Take a look at the Kershaw OSO Sweet:
https://www.amazon.com/Kershaw-Pocke...ords=oso+sweet Almost always on sale at Big 5 and yet affordable even when they're are not... So cheap, I give them as gifts.

I have been carrying the Kershaw Fatback lately as my EDC...
Nothing fancy, just a discreet and inexpensive assisted folder. https://www.amazon.com/Kershaw-Multi...s%2C193&sr=8-1

Most recently I've been carrying a Spyderco Manix 2 Lightweight. I flaunts the "Ball Bearing Lock," which is similar in operation to the "Axis Lock." It's much thinner, but equally well made. For those on a budget, Ganzo makes a pretty nice copy of the Axis Lock. They make a bunch of models, and they're all in the twenty dollar price range. They're a smokin' deal at that price. Maybe they're not quite as nicely built as a real Benchmade, but they're a mere fraction of the cost. |

How do you like that crooked river? (mini or regular?) Does it work as an EDC for you? I think that knife is beautiful and am tempted to purchase it just on the appearance. But I guess spending that kind of money, it needs to be useful too. What do you think?

As EDC Defensive knife, there are a couple of good options
I've got a bit of a preference for Spyderco Top of the list is the Yojimbo 2 - carries well, deploys fast, especially with inertia opening and cuts like nobody's business. Our knife training group did some test cuts on Porkman with it and the results were impressive - little cutting force, all the depth and ease of penetration you can ask for. Similar cutting characteristics, lower budget, takes a bit more practice to open swiftly: Spyderco Endura Wharncliffe (New version with a straight cutting edge like the Yojimbo). It's a lockback and has more closing force than the Yojimbo2 but absolutely not drawback in cutting... very thin knife, carries very well. Down one size Spyderco Delica Wharncliffe - same as the Endura, just with a 3" Blade... small knife, great performance... most people will underestimate it. I've seen or done cutting tests on Porkman with each of the three - I'd carry any of them in without a second thought. One caveat - the tip on all three is thin (which is why they penetrate so well). If you intend to use the knife or utility with the occasional prying, these are not the knives you want to use... a Standard Delica or Endura with a hollow grind will serve you better.

For a great USA made EDC on a budget (about $45.00), look at either the Gerber Order or the Kershaw Link (I prefer the serrated versions in both). Moving up in price, look at either the Kershaw knockout or the Benchmade Griptilian. Once over a $100, then a the Benchmade Bugout becomes very tempting for a lightweight EDC. Good luck finding your new blade!

I think I am the 3rd or 4th member to recommend the Spyderco Paramilitary II knife. It is built like a tank, and there are many good reasons why this is Spyderco's top selling knife. The clip can be attached on both sides and both ends. The blade is a high quality metal, S30V.

Really liked everything about that Crooked River minus the price! That is until BM's stance/history was made public.

I liked the old Presidios and probably the best Benchmade, the Contego. Never had a Skirmish, though.

I really love the new ZT 0022. It’s a little small, but maybe as a second EDC. I know that’s crazy talk |

Ember (Hinderer) when I had it... but I gave it away. Yeah I think it would be dinky for $200 and as EDC... The Ember was kind of a backup EDC for me for a minute because it would actually fit in the watch or coin pocket of most jeans (over my regular ZT or whatever). In practice it was a gimmick. I have backups but usually not on me... like in vehicles and pen cups various places. I have a Spyderco Tenacious in the car always... haven't needed it for at least a year. Have a Centofante in the bathroom drawer, used to have a Thermite in the pen cup on my desk, etc... I use that Centofante in the bathroom a lot, None of the others get used because I don't forget to have a knife on me everywhere else. If I have a backup on me it is a small traditional slip joint usually in a leather slip in my pocket (GEC 71, or 15) with a ZT something clipped tip up on same pocket (0456BW or 0804CF usually... today a 0804CF) |

Nice form. I usually carry two as well. One mid sized EDC Microtech UTX-85 (for example) and a small Ca. Legal Protech Runt in a boot or shoe. Somewhere very different than my pocket. It’s handy to keep two close because you just never know. Not that the Runt or equivalent will really get you out of a jam if you need to stick it in someone’s throat. But it’s still nice to have. |

I'd love to get a hold of a 0804CF some day. My 0801 grows on me every time I handle it. Like my Yojimbo 2 knives too. It was the knife that got me started on better knives. You, sir, have a great taste in knives!

Yeah he does. The 0456 is probably one of my next two purchases. I may get that with the 0022. I’m a sucker for small knives. Do t know why. Maybe because I’m always in board shorts and T’s and do t have a lot of places to put them. |

Thanks, guys. I bought and used a lot of mediocre knives and got rid of them. I'm not crazy about parrot colored knives, but when I saw the Blackwash version of the 0456 for a steal I grabbed it. That one surprised me because it doesn't look like a knife I'd love so much but it fits my hand well and if just fast, balanced, and substantial... it pretty much bumped the 0801, 0909, Spydercos and other Sinkevichs from being carried much. I have the 0804CF again and it feels slower and a little awkward compared to the 0456BW... it is just too gorgeous not to carry. If you were in a knife fight I guess the 0804CF or 0452CF would be A LOT better, but for daily slicing and balance that 0456 is great. I never used the stock clip though, I hear people don't like it. I have a Ti one that's a bronze color. Perfect IMHO. Here's that 0456 clip far left - totally recommend those. Last edited by crufflers; 08-20-2019 at 10:43 AM.. |
